    Beautiful place. The wife and I down here in September 2029 from Ballymena. Took a day to Strandhill from our break in Sligo. Great video. Never surfed in my life.. RTE did a fantastic docu on history of Irish Surfing which is worth a look. Great to see recognition with the Surfing Centre.

      Rosnowlagh is a beautiful place Thomas, I should make a film in that. But surfing, I’ll probably leave that to the surfers!

    A flat day, but enough to keep the ripple riders happy. Almost a hang five , but no radical cut backs or deep glassy tubes. Nice to see no dropins or Bunnies. The first to surf Irish waves were two Ozzie brothers, the Devlins, now of Byron Bay restaurant fame. Their stories of surfing Irish waves are worth recording. They based them selves in Donegal. That was in the 70's. And I surf, and Scuba dive( PADI Advanced). My niece lives with her wee family in Sligo, a leading archaeologist. Love the gentle scenery, very beautiful. Thank you!

      Hardly misspent, it looks like a healthy sport, plenty of fresh air, plenty of exercise!

      Cheers Greg! It was healthy, the girls on the beach were easy on the eyes. But it had its hazards too. I almost drowned in heavy surfs more than once. My young brother coped a fin chop to his head from his board as he went over the Falls and wiped out. Very nasty. And one morning I had a 15ft Hammer Head literally bump the back of my board as my mate and I were waiting from waves. Nearly drowned body surfing more than once. On my first dive as a qualified diver , I came face to face with a massive Tiger shark. It was no more than 5ft from me. Just like in Jac Cousto . Taking a deflating Merrion Surf mat out into 10ft sets was out there. But beach fishing I can’t get enough of. Just love it.

      Sounds like you’re lucky to still be alive! Yes, fishing sounds much less dangerous.

    Very enjoyable Greg. You gotta marvel at the suffers, I can barley balance at times (no nothing to do with Jameson's 😆) let alone surf 🤣🤣. You weren’t tempted then? 😝 We went to Inch in Co. Clare and that’s quite a surfing place too. I used to live on the coast and it had rocks too, it was for costal erosion. I remember one storm we lost three feet of sand off the beach!

      Thanks Rob. A bit cold for me I think! But enjoyable to watch others.

    If you're not allowed 🚫 to swim, how did the surfers get out to sea, or am I missing something?

    • @nakedireland
      @nakedireland  Год назад

      I’m guessing they walked out. It’s a special part of the beach I gather, where all the surfing goes on, so perhaps it’s under close surveillance?

      @billyo54 @nakedireland I surf here all the time. No security to stop you from swimming but there is signs everywhere and impossible to miss. Three ripcurrents are very dangerous here, one brings you out to sea from the slipway and the other two bring you to either side. Couple kids drowned in the 90s from this. Surfboards don’t get caught with rip currents as badly as swimmers. Hope this answered it ✌️

    No sign of the no Shenanigans policy changin no? Still love ur videos but be nice to see an odd Shenanigan slip in

    • @nakedireland
      @nakedireland  Год назад

      It’s not a firm policy, rather a guideline. I made a film on St Patrick’s day for example which had some shenanigans, lots of shamrocks and probably even a shillelagh! But it’s good not to overdo any on the above!
