    I respectfully disagree with your problem with the memory TARDIS. Sure, it's memories of the same TARDIS Sutech is lacthed to, but because in the Doctor's and their companions' memorys he isn't present ( since he has been hidden ) he isn't present in the memory TARDIS itself. It comes down to perception, I guess

    • @RamblingManYT
      @RamblingManYT  Месяц назад +4

      Yeah okay I can understand that argument
      I just think that since Sutekh is bound to the very essence of the TARDIS that means that he technically is in their memories, cause he is part the TARDIS... He is wired into the machine itself

    • @Julieisawsomer
      @Julieisawsomer Месяц назад +1

      Sutech is a god but he only has one form, and so he is with the original tardis that he bound himself to. Also as ragingrhino said, he is not a part of the doctor or his companions concious memory, so only the tardis is created from the memories. At least thats my thoughts

    It kind of makes sense that Ruby sunday is just a human person, but in the beginning i was like ooh is she a half god?? Half alien?? Halv timetraveler?? Something cool??
    So I agree that it was a letdown, also about their relationship not feeling super bonded

    I agree with all of this. There's lots I enjoyed and would happily watch most episodes again but my biggest bugbear is the ease with which solutions appear in the final minutes of the episode. I know that's typical for any Dr Who episode but the lack of suitable setup for plot twists made the endings feel unearned and more like 'a wizard did it'. I think this is also the case in Boom, which is a brilliant concept for an episode. But, Vater's 'deletion' didn't result in him being as deleted as it appeared when there's no reason to hope that the AI survived. Then the pre-programmed AI (whose only design feature is that they can play recorded messages, so they are not actually that intelligent) can instantly break their programming and become a fully intelligent being capable of making its own decisions because the Doctor said the word 'Dad'. I felt kind of cheated.
    If I were Ruby, I'd have no reason to trust the Doctor because he isn't shown as have any control over any situation. Compare that to the Family of Blood two-parter, where the Doctor is presented as having zero ability to stop the Family at all but in the resolution it's shown that of course he did, but out of kindness took great measures to hold himself back. That is a strong reason to love the Doctor, but Ruby doesn't see any instance of the Doctor holding great powers in check, she just sees the adventure-loving/danger-attracting side that relies on luck to survive. Believing the friendship between them relies on the audience already knowing why someone would love the Doctor, not on any in-universe reason for Ruby to fully trust him.
    With the finale two-parter, I couldn't help but make comparisons between this episode and the MCU's Infinity War/Endgame combo. Admittedly for the MCU, they had 6 hours of movie time to play out complete story lines about half the universe disappearing in a cloud of dust, but in order to resolve that, the heroes had to work seriously hard and then there were dire and lasting consequences, both for the heroes and the whole universe by bringing back those who blipped.
    In this take on the trope, all the Doctor had to do was pop a leash on the god of death and shout 'walkies', and without much more effort than that, everyone comes back to life with no lasting consequences (I doubt we'll see any of the returning characters with lasting physiological issues from being blipped). It was way too easy to fix given that beings as powerful as the Toymaker and Maestro fear Sutekh, and the Doctor freely admits that they were only defeated because of luck, essentially, not because he was more powerful than them. Yet, the Doctor was able to take on Sutekh with a bit of superpowered rope.
    End of rant. 😉

    Ill say this, whatever happened with ruby actor and the rain she's leaving definitely changed the show. This was cleaely a bigger then that had to get swept became of how short the season is and he abruptly leaving.
    The 15th crying i ding really see as a problem. I don't think it's him being erratic, but empathetic. He cares about loss of life no matter who it is. And seems hindsight humbly to there level in way he probably didn't really.

  • @triplejazzmusicisall1883
    @triplejazzmusicisall1883 Месяц назад +1

    Try to think of criticism as different from negativity - because they are different. Sort of the opposite of RTD where positivity is replaced with hyperbole - rarely not neccessarily the same. Still I have no courage and simply did not watch this season due to the amount of feedback I saw on youtube I knew it wasn't for me.
    Those final scenes though in Dot and Bubble where the bigotted racism becomes rampantly outward is an amazing scene and Ncuti's acting is brillinat. He shines and feels so Doctorish in his complete selflessness. So there are parts of this season I would like but then I am concerned the other parts such as the Glee-style musical number and Sutekh being captured with a bunge rope from a garage sale etc... the bad writing is unbearable. Also I want decent resolutions from each epsiode plus the overarching threads and it became obvious very quickly this was not going to be a series where the scifi answers would explain it all. Instead we get fantasy cop out endings with no substance. Disney has stamped it's foot all over it. If others can't pick that vibe up well then I guess they are lucky.

  • @dimsumdip
    @dimsumdip Месяц назад +1

    I really agree with both the fact that it feels like the Doctor and Ruby don't really know each other all that well and that the Doctor cried a bit much in this season. I think it's okay for the Doctor to be emotional but, like you said, it carries a lot more weight when it's used sparingly. I love Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. He reminds me a bit of Matt Smith with all the whimsy and all but I hope he gets a chance to grow a bit. What I can say however is that I think this season was a lot better than Jodi's seasons. I didn't watch all of it but what I saw was pretty bad. I loved The Boom, D&B and 73 yards, but the rest were meh. And as for 73 yards, I liked the episode as a whole but the ending was a bit strange. I found the idea of it really good and scary, but the ending didn't make sense.
    Basically I agree with all you said pretty much and I really hope that the coming seasons will be better (and a bit longer) because we know RTD can showrun very good.
    Great video!

    I also didn't even make it past the anniversary episodes... I seem to be generally disappointed by media these days, honestly-I really do try and be open at the start, but holistically (because there are some gems here and there, a good idea or vibe, etc.) everything lands "cheaply" and lacking depth, impact, or, really, just QUALITY. This definitely was one of those quite disappointing pieces of media for me.

    Thanks for this! You've expressed my disappointment with this season very well. I really wanted to like it, but in the end it felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities. 15's confused characterization, Ruby's lack of characterization, the weak finale... I did like the Devil's Chord, however, particularly due to Jinx's great performance. Here's to hoping things will get better from here on out!

      @@Comicbroe405 That's a fair comment but on the otherhand a two part finale out of only 8 episodes needs to raise the game much higher and this season they did the exact opposite. Frankly the Doctor was not in the show enough and some parts of his personality were overwrought - i.e. the crying. Not blaming the actors though but RTD really needs to step aside and let other new blood create some narratives. It was too much RTD navel gazing and admiring his image in the mirror for my liking. It's not surprising the Moffatt was called back to write an episode and the forthcoming Christmas special.

    RTD is not good accepting criticism is he. Telling people to F-OFF on Instagram isn’t helpful. The sexualisation of the Doctor and the endless emotional stuff is making it feel very unlike the Doctor. The plot lines are so bad that they don’t make any sense whatsoever. Doesn’t RTD realise that Sutekh wasn’t trapped in the time vortex in Pyramids of Mars? What a hack. Dot & Bubble isn’t RTD’s idea! It was done way better in the novel THE MACHINE STOPS by E.M Forster. The racism is badly done. It would’ve have made better sense to do that in the past where black people where discriminated against but for some reason they re-write history and insult the viewers! Rogue is damaging to the Doctor’s character and having him act like a randy teenager over someone he’s just met is totally unlike the Doctor. You’re right to say the chemistry between Ruby and the Doctor is forced. Notice how most of the episodes have the Doctor saved by others and this incompetence has damaged the character. The writing is terrible. Least with Rose he couldn’t be with her and gave her a human copy but here he’s trying to get off with this man that he doesn’t know! Very unlike the Doctor. The finale was the biggest load of tripe I’ve ever seen. Plot threads going nowhere and the Doctor being less resilient and stoic than Mel! Sutekh dragged about on a dog leash is laughable and why wouldn’t he use his hypnotic powers to overcome his enemies? The Doctor of the past would never allow UNIT time devices. Sutekh clinging to the Tardis all those years doesn’t work. The Tardis was destroyed in the 5th Doctor story Frontios. Sutekh deserves a better story but this was laughably bad. Is Sutekh on the real Tardis with the Tennant Doctor? If so why didn’t he act faster? It’s so stupid!! 😂😂😂Russell clearly has run out of ideas and is stealing ideas from Classic Who only to spoil them. Intelligent rope! 😂😂😂Maybe RTD needs to employ the services of intelligent scripts because this is the worst I’ve ever seen. Gatwa to me is too good looking for the Doctor. This character was never supposed to be about image and sex appeal and his dialog “Babes! “Sweetheart! Bloody Hell! 😂😂😂is so unlike the Doctor. All the Doctors have a certain character that still makes them feel like the Doctor but this version doesn’t even act very Doctor like. RTD needs to go. Get Charlie Brooker to take over or Toby Whithouse. Use new writers who understand what made the past Doctors work. You made some great points in the video. I’d say a fair assessment.

      RTD kind of sexualizing the Doctor has been an issue since the Tennant days. And "too good looking" is a weird take. So was Tennant.

    • @PaulRichards-vz4pl
      @PaulRichards-vz4pl Месяц назад +1

      @@Comicbroe405 Verity Lambert one of the original creators of Doctor Who said that the character isn’t your typical good looking generic hero but should be someone who’s unusual looking and eccentric. She cast William Hartnell in the role and also adored Tom Baker for his eccentric qualities and the fact he had an unusual look about him. He was younger than the original but she said he had an older character about him, a wise element. With Gatwa he’s too good looking I think but it’s more than that he’s acting more emotionally than a human and doesn’t have the old wise quality. He’s written badly but that’s intentional as RTD said he wants it to appeal to the TikTok generation! Bad move.

      @@PaulRichards-vz4pl Kinda agree. I think the writing is definitely intentional plus obviously RTD wanting to appeal to the Netlfix audience. I personally think Gatwa is great & does bring a good energy to the role. Only Moffat seems to have utilised his range as an actor well.

      Now about the racism, i don't actually mind it being in the future instead of the past, because let's face it, racism hasn't entirely gone anyway. It's not as bad, sure, but it still exists in at least SOME capacity. We can't really forget that.
      But yeah, i agree with pretty much everything else you said.

  • @madcat1738
    @madcat1738 Месяц назад

    Sutehk wasn't cast into the time vortex. He was placed in a special corridor between Mars and Earth that would basically stretch into infinity so he would die of old age before reaching Earth. It had nothing to do with the TARDIS or the time vortex the TARDIS uses. Not only that but Sutekh was not a dog headed deity in Egypt.
    So they not only said FU to the original material, they absolutely screwed it up. How many times did the TARDIS blow up? What about the 13 TARDISes at Gallifrey? This was a farce. Just like everything else post-Capaldi.
    I won't even bother with the Doctor being so horny he almost lets his companion die, something NO doctor would ever do.
    I had hoped for RTD, but this iteration needs to go away, and maybe in another 20 years it can be picked up again and the Timeless Child and this farce and be written back out.
