I love the details you share on these old cars. I really love the workmanship and style of this Daimler - and I smile every time I see those leather suitcases in the truck. You're always classy and stylish. 💕
Looking good! Alexander, I can't think of any of your loyal fan family that needs you to prove the cold start or anything else. If there is anything we've learned from watching you it is your honesty and loyalty. Just sayin'.
It's ridiculously satisfying to sit here and watch you do all the work to restore this old beauty. Thanks for taking us along for the ride (pun alert!)
My brother had a 1953 Daimler (I think it might have been a Conquest) with this sort of gear changer. He needed the spring clutch because his left leg (clutch leg) was in plaster hip to toe for most of a year. He didn't have the flexibility or control to manage a proper clutch, but he could just tap his cast against the spring clutch to actuate the change in gear. Awesome car!
Hoping you are all okay . I can't imagine how difficult it must be to deal with such snow storms . I trust you have all stayed home, and haven't lost power. Good luck, love watching you,r videos,.Thanks, from Brisbane Australia :)
Nice car and good job getting it up and running. My guess would be that the next time it's featured in a Curiosity Incorporated video, it'll be shown being loaded onto an auto transport vehicle of some kind so it can make its way to a new owner and the next chapter in its extraordinary life.
Good to see the old girl up and going. It would be nice to see her back in her original black and claret paint scheme. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours.
@@jeanieschmidt3781 I would want a fast modern car if I was getting married. You think the boys would want a romantic antique car to make their getaway?😭🥰
That is the first time I have heard the term "trafficator," but it makes perfect sense. The car is the same age as my husband. Beautiful car! Your knowledge about cars is amazing.
Trafficators are the physical pop out direction indicators fitted to cars of this era, just what people called them at the time. Some were purely electrical, some had a mechanical linkage but some were popped out by vacuum from the engine. I believe most were illuminated but some were just a coloured reflective ‘flag’ it’s an interesting feature from this period of time
That beautiful ghost sitting there ( Limo) with the side profile of snow covered trees and ground covered was breath taking. It would make a wonderful picture for the garage wall.
I would be painting it back to the Royal Claret and being that it needs the body imperfections repaired including the drivers door and it would substantially improve the value. Personally, i would love that it went to a Museum in a controlled atmosphere environment as it is a car with its history well worthy of it.
Nice update. Just for a little bit of info: Daimler, later Mercedes-Benz, is not pronaunced for the "Dame" she is, but for every " Dime" spent on her. 😉
A Daimler what a classic car. it looks beautiful. would be ideal for weddings. Hope you got through the weather's bomb safely. happy new year to you all love from UK xx
I was a Limo driver part time for 28 years and even the modern limos with the solid partition up you can hear the people in the back. (but do not tell them).🤫
Really neat car. Tyres need more air though. It would be interesting to search for the old pictures from UK royalty and see if the license plate shows up somewhere if it has been in their use. You have all the cold air there and we have all the snow storms here, it has been snowing like 5 days in a row, not fun anymore the amount of snow. Happy New Year!
That car was picture perfect in the snow! Beautiful! Great job you're doing on it and I really can't wait to see how it ends up! You do really remarkable work! Oh and -30...Freezing! 🥶🥶🥶
The registration JB8500 is a local Reading in Berkshire number so could well be a Royal car. Contact the Jaguar Daimler heritage centre at Gaydon - home of the British Motor Museum. You can order a build certificate so this could help in tracing the original owner. 😉 However Daimler & Jaguar would loan cars to the Royal Family so may show them as them as the registered keeper.
We had a few very cold days in Switzerland, but now it is warmer than normal, They think we might have the warmest change of year ever. Everytime we get warm air coming in around Christmas. But it is about +10 Celsius now. Well I would hate to have minus 30.
Hi Alex. You are correct that the JB registration originated from Berkshire, the county which includes Windsor. But that in itself is no proof that the car was used by the royal family. If you contact the Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club I'm sure they will be enthusiastic to help you research the history of the car. Their website suggests that it is the sole example of its type in Canada.
JB 8500 was issued in the summer of 1936, so your car was probably originally registered with another number, and the JB number transferred at a later date.
Hi Alex, beautiful car was thinking does the T on the gears stand for top gear and also the car would look good in black. It's the 30th of December here. Christmas is done and dusted. we are waiting for the new year to come. I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year and keep your videos coming. I really enjoy watching yours and Melissa's videos. I do have a life.🤣🤣 Just enjoy watching ❤from Australia
Excellent automobile! Wish the weather was nice for a drive! I would love to know what a fair offer would be for your car. Do you think it could be licensed for the road in USA? Don’t be surprised if Jay Leno knocks on your door with a roll of “Benjamin’s”! Thanks for the tour Alex 👍
The car is looking good and nice to see it running and driving. There is a place in Cambridge Ont. that does chrome work called Cambridge Custom Chrome and they do excellent work. I have seen a lot of the items that they have redone and they look awesome. I use to deliver there so got to see a lot of different items and talk to the owner about some pieces. Giving you this info just in case you know someone that needs chrome parts restored. They are very busy so might take a while to get the work done but worth the wait.
It is a great looking car, you could hang onto it for the boys' grads or weddings or for Abbigails' wedding ! If it was a royal car in 1948 it would have been King George's car not the queen's, when new anyway. 👍🇨🇦✌️
Your car seems in very good condition, a good base to finish off. Daimler were very conservative indeed, and probably there were heated debates abouot such modernities as trafficators. Loking at this car, it's easy to see how Daimler did not last much longer as an independent manufacturer, and ended up as simply a fancier Jaguar.
The transmission may have been manufactured by Cord. It was also used in some Tuckers. You might want to replace the single reservoir brake master cylinder with a modern one with two reservoirs so you will still have working brakes in case you had a fluid loss failure in the front or back brakes.
Hi Alex and Melissa 🙋🏽. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas 🎄❤️.in Canada y'all pronounce your car DAIM-LER, IN THE USA WE PRONOUNCE THE NAME OF YOUR CAR DIME -LER CHRYSLER. THAT'S SO AWESOME. HAVE A GREAT DAY ALEX‼️😃👍🏽.
I didn't know Daimler was based in Coventry originally, just like Jaguar. I was born 20 min. from Coventry and my dad was born in Coventry and LOVES Jags!!
You said Walk About. The only occasion I remember hearing that expression was in the Movie Crokodile Dundee. May be it is a Commonwealth expression. I use the term Walk Around. A funny car: It cannot get more British than that.
Back then, people expected to maintain and repair their expensive machines, whether cars or sewing machines! Not many things that old will still run as originally intended!
It’s such a beautiful piece of British history and now it’s owned by a successful antique dealer in Alberta, Canada. I find that fascinating!! It’s in such beautiful shape and it could go on as an event limousine, but it still has life in it for some time yet. May I ask what is the gorgeous blue car that’s in the middle? I want to compare it with a car that was going to be given to me in 1980, but the wife wanted to trade it in for another vehicle, so I didn’t get it. In 2016 the husband(My 2nd cousin.) drove me to a car shop and he said he had a surprise for me and there was the same car that they sold. I took so many pictures of it. It’s too bad we can’t put pictures with our comments (They would get approved by you first before publishing them on here with the persons comment.) because I’d love to show it to you. I believe it was a Jaguar. Anyhow, loved seeing your new/vintage car. Take care.
You got to mount the tire on the trunk and paint it black again and never get rid of it or burgundy and black would have been black at the bottom burgundy in the middle black at the top and you possibly have a queen's car
Just a note: Alberta is the Province, a large land mass, while the city Alexander lives near is Edmonton, the Provincial Capitol. Both it and Calgary are cities of over a million people, while the Province has many other cities in the 25-100 thousand population.
It cracks me up when you Canadians call the winter weather "chilly" when in reality it is "insanely freezing!". Canadians are very optimistic!

Absolute beauty of a vehicle.

Beautiful piece of the history, hope it will find a good new home with a good purpose. It's a pleasure just to look at her.

I love this car thank you for repairing the car and get it back running again.
I bet someone somewhere will make you a good offer for that! Maybe Jay Leno. He has a three story garage with an elevator for the cars.

Not correct. Daimler-Benz is not Daimler, a company that was based in Coventry, and is usually pronounced Dame-ler in Britain.
He who owns the car has the right to call it whatever he wants. 🙂
Alex is pronouncing it correctly.
It would be cool if you took your son Stephen and his date to the prom in the Daimler.
