"Get Gone" is my favorite track here. I live for that moment at the end of the bridge when she lets loose with "F*ing Go." That moment of blunt profanity feels so raw and powerful contrasted with the lush, conflicted lyrics across the rest of the album and the questioning self-doubt of the chorus. "Paper Bag" is another one I keep coming back to- I love the way she keeps playing with the melody.
The final song, “I Know”, which is considered one of Fiona’s greatest works, was written about David Blaine, a very popular magician she had dated for a while. Hence the lines “when the crowd becomes your burden and you’ve early closed your curtain”
fiona is amazing! i recommend you her third album, extraordinary machine. many prefer the unreleased version of it (the one produced by when the pawn producer, jon brion) but i really like the released one, and i think you will too since it has a more pop approach
Immediately clicked on this. Loving your journey with Fiona. One of my favourite artists. It’s poetry set to music. This reaction will get me listening to this album again, so thank you. Definitely check out Extraordinary Machine. Loving your reactions.
Personally, this and extraordinary machine are my fave Fiona Apple albums so I’m happy you reacted to it (even if I’m a month late😭) so if you continue Fiona, I really hope you enjoy both extraordinary machine and the idler wheel!:)
This is my personal favorite Fiona Apple album. I'm admittedly not the biggest follower of her music, but this album is really special. This is definitely an angry album, but there are a lot of underrated songs on this album. Fast As You Can was the lead single from this album (and it's held up to the test of time). Love Ridden might be my favorite on the album. Paper bag, A Mistake, Get Gone, The Way Things Are....basically the entire album is amazing. This album dropped at the very end of the 90's and a lot of 90's alternative music touched on themes of toxic relationships, and heartbreak. (I say 90's alternative because it wasn't pop music/hip hop/rap/metal which were the most prominent genres at the time.) Some of the best sad music came from the 90's IMO. Also, If you like the instrumentals on this album, I wonder what you would think of Beirut - The Flying Club Cup. It's not pop music, but indie music. It has many horns, and string instruments (think Arcade Fire, but way better) and it's inspired by eastern European music. I think it's something you would actually enjoy very much, and I don't see many react channels listen to their music.
Yesss, I love a good indie album! I've actually never listen to Arcade Fire before though haha, but I'm sure I'd know something of theirs if I listened, cause I know the bands name!
It’s SO hard to rate the albums, but When The Pawn tops Tidal for me. It’s possible that Tidal is in my bottom two, which only speaks VOLUMES about her music, because Tidal is friggen BRILLIANT. She just can’t help getting better and better and better.
Fiona Apple will always be one of my favorite artists. She’s so unique and her lyrics are so poetic and deep, and even confusing and contradictory. Paper Bag was the song that introduced me to her because of my eating disorder.. I don’t know for sure if that’s what she’s really talking about in the song, but it sure hit home for me! It’s a mess that no one wants to deal with because you’re doing it to yourself. And the hunger causes dizziness that might create a mirage of the environment around you, causing you to see things that aren’t there; as well as shaky hands from that lightheadedness.
this is my favorite of all of her albums with her 4th release Idler Wheel in second. funny enough that album also has a long title like When The Pawn does. if my life depended on picking a top 3, in this moment I would go with Get Gone, To Your Love, and Fast As You Can.
Idler is such a strange album for me, because it’s the only album of hers that has skips for me, but at the same time, it also contains some of her absolute BEST songs imo.
Albums 1, 2 and 3 belong in a group and 4 and 5 fit together. She rarely releases anything so when she comes out of hiding and gives an album you take it. 4 and 5 were different for sure but growers. Album 3 is one of my favorites which goes against the grain. She’s an excellent writer and a very unique artist. She only comes around every so often so you have to take what you get. Thanks for doing this. Xoxo
This is definitely her most pop polished album and most immediately accessible. I consider ‘Fetch’ and The Idler Wheel… her best works. But there’s no denying this album’s quality and also its influence.
I actually somewhat take that back 😂. Extraordinary Machine might be her most immediately accessible album. It’s just not as distinct as ‘Fetch’ or The Idler Wheel… or even this album.
Oh my gosh, I LOVE that you’ve been doing Fiona Apple and Tori Amos lately! I kinda wish you’d just vibe with the instrumental intros / outros though (I only say that because I value your opinion and want you to love the songs as much as I do, ha ha). This album is so good. I don’t listen to it very often but when I’m in an angry / insecure / toxic / self-destructive mood it’s an old friend that I love connecting with… Side note; Fiona fans will come for me for saying this, but I don’t like Fetch the Bolt Cutters. I love all of her other albums, but Bolt Cutters is just so annoying, I don’t get it (and I really have tried). Anyways, I love your channel 💙
Me too! Been such a ride!! Haha, that's a fair critique, I always get in trouble for whinging about intro/outros when I don't vibe them haha! But I'm glad you loved most of it 😛
I’ve tried watching a few of your Fiona videos before… it doesn’t seem like you actually when she pushes the envelope, or when she conveys emotion… and you don’t seem to like/understand any lyrics that aren’t obvious. You’re kind of bad at this. Bummer.
To be fair, not everyone can decipher poetry on a first listen, especially with the distraction of all the music and stuff. Not everyone is a musician that can understand all the intricacies of her sound. Sometimes you have to be in a certain state to be able to REALLY get into certain songs of hers. Plus let’s be honest, he’s a man. I’m sorry, but there are just some feelings that Fiona conveys that a man just can’t understand. I’ve been a Fiona fan forever, and sometimes I’ll still pick up on little clever lines in her songs that I didn’t fully understand before, but now I do. FTBC was his first Fiona album keep in mind. We as fans had the luxury of making the journey all the way to FTBC. We got to slowly lower ourselves into this music, and he’s just diving right in. On camera. Thinking about all the editing he has to do later. Fiona’s music can be a slow burn. Sometimes it takes a few listens to fall in love with a song. Sometimes it comes instantaneously. 🤷🏻♀️ At least he’s TRYING to decipher the meaning of the songs. Most reactors just look it up. Not only that, but if you’re not vibing with a certain artist, you can’t force it. Take Lana Del Rey for instance. She seems to be a lot of younger people’s “Fiona Apple”, and I absolutely cannot stand her music. I like a couple of songs here and there, but in general, I think she’s a shitty writer, and all of her songs are just a bunch of trendy adjectives mixed together. Maybe there’s something there that I’m missing, but my dislike for her work, and the fact that people dare compare her to Fiona really gets in the way of me being able to get into her crummy lyrics.
Ive never clicked on a video so fast.. i love fiona so much
😍
As fast as you could?

Yessssss!
I consider I Know to be a perfect song. This was a great, thoughtful reaction, I’m glad you appreciated the album.
Thank you sm! Glad you enjoyed

The way things are is so addicting. Specially the guitar

I think the 60’s and the 90’s were two of the best decades for music.
Thank you Fiona Apple for being there through difficult times. ♡♡♡ I love you with all my heart and all my soul!
She’s underrated and misunderstood too. But for those who enjoy her it’s worth the ride. This album is probably her best. Right up there with Tidal.
It’s SO hard to rate the albums, but When The Pawn tops Tidal for me. It’s possible that Tidal is in my bottom two, which only speaks VOLUMES about her music, because Tidal is friggen BRILLIANT. She just can’t help getting better and better and better.

This is so great! I think you’d really like Tracy Bonham, her second album is especially strange and amazing.
Ooo, okay, thank you!!
This is definitely her most pop polished album and most immediately accessible. I consider ‘Fetch’ and The Idler Wheel… her best works. But there’s no denying this album’s quality and also its influence.

Fiona Apple queen of the gays! ❤✨
People forget that Fiona grew up in 90's, broke and around rappers, ballerina and actors. The anger and aggression is real.
honestly extremely annoying how youre always having the best taste in literally everything
Great reaction. Listen to anything by Producer Jon Brion - you won't be disappointed.

Bad at what? REACTING? You do realise that reactions aren’t an English essay babe.
