I’ve used SW Alabaster as trim in my interior as well as the body and trim of my old clapboard house. The creamy white is warmer than a stark white in my cold climate (New England) as well as less harsh outdoors when the sun is drenching the house. I actually had a change of heart when repainting the house and thought I’d go for true white as the top coat. After living with it a year though, I’m back to the original plan.
Yes you are correct. I love my sw alabaster as I’ve said before. My boho tropical vibe with my plants and touches of green, creams, white > it’s a warm cheery vibe as the morning sun shines in from the east. I use flat in living room/dining and it’s such a velvet look and wondrous with my heavy oak (craftsman style) woodwork. The best color for boho decor. For anyone with depression tendencies Alabaster is so pleasing to the eyes and warm which helps the brain over grays or other dark drab colors.
wow! I chose "alabaster" for my own kitchen cabinets (love it!) and at the time didn't realize there were two manufacturers with the same color name. When I bought a home to "flip" I chose "alabaster" again because we loved it so much. BUT the painter did it with the BM alabaster. (Didn't ask me and I didn't know that my own cabinets were SW alabaster.) I thought I was crazy because when I walked in to see it for the first time the cabinets looked PINK! I spent extra money to paint them again because of how bad it looked! Thanks to your video now I know why!
Hi Michelle! Sorry about the mix-up! Yes it's amazing how many colors have the same name! Watch out for Swiss Coffee too! Glad you got what you wanted in the end!
I was mighty bored today so I’m glad to see your video. (I won’t quit my day job). I’m on the SW side for sure. I love the warmth and have used it in a few rooms.
Thank you! I’m happy to see the comparison! I used BM Alabaster in my guest room on all surfaces, just changing up the sheen. I initially saw a bit of pink but I think it was coming from my flooring. I trusted my choice and continued to do another coat and when putting the room together again the pink has disappeared and it’s much more influenced by the rug, finishes, fabric and artwork in the room. Turned into a beautiful soft white in my nw facing room that doesn’t get a ton of natural light. I haven’t painted a room “white” in probably 40 years but ever soft color I had painted this room just seemed to suck all the light out of it. It’s as if this room had always wanted to be a white and now it’s happy!
I provide interior painting and color consulting. Great job on this video! One of my favorite whites is Behr White 52. It's not a super bright white but covers lots of bases. Doesn't lean to warm or cool.
You can’t go wrong with Alabaster. I know that there’s a difference when it comes to another paint brand name, but… Alabaster is still the brightest of the off-whites in paint. Considering to how much natural light or any light there is in any room there is alabaster, you’ll still get that bright off-white glamour that is alabaster. It all just depends on not just the LRV and paint brand name but to how much light you’ve got coming in the room. Like they say in real estate talk, it’s all about location, location, location. 👍🙂 Back in the 1990’s, I had a Siamese cat named Alabaster. His coat of hair was so much like the paint color.
Benjamin Moore is so expensive…and I think people think that makes it ‘better’ than Sherwin Williams. I personally love Sherwin William’s paint. It is so easy to work with and covers beautifully
i painted my whole apartment bm alabaster white, thinking my white walls would reflect a beautiful pink "glow" because i kept reading how the bm alabaster is SO PINK. Well it is not. It's a bright, stark white. On a sunny day, with the light coming in from my 2 skylights, my walls reflected so much light it would hurt my eyes. With less light, there might be a subtle creamy undertone coming through. But it'll always read as white. Not off-white. Definitely not pink. Just white. At least that was my experience. I repainted all in Original White by SW. it looks white, but it doesnt hurt my eyes -neither does it look yellow or dingy. LOVE IT.
I love BM Alabaster. I used it in both daughter’s bedrooms and I love how the lighting in one room shows a bit pink at certain types of the day and then completely white at other times. To me it’s a perfect delicate white
That was good, too. I liked seeing the side by sides. And PS and by the way, loved the thumbnail. That font really worked and I may steal it from you. Steal like an Artist, great book by the way. In other news, James, I picked up another yellow yesterday called Upbeat (P300-5 [M]) It was a Behr colour but a Glidden flat paint. Supposed to be washable and flat, we'll see. If you have any time or thoughts I would love to see a yellow video. It's interesting to me how the light hits different yellows and makes them sometimes green (to my colour perspective). And more ... (longest comment ever incoming), is that that green doesn't show up everywhere. I have a bathroom where the green in yellow hardly shows if at all, but then in the kitchen or the front door outside, that green comes right through. Again to my colour perspective. So fun. So fun this paint stuff. Hope you're having a great week. Love these videos.
Okay but what about sw alabaster vs bm Swiss coffee? Your videos praise both 😅 our south facing rooms only have one window so they get pretty dark but I would like it to look warm even though it’s dark… does that make sense? Lol
SW Alabaster is a favorite for me! The spaces with East West light feel airy, soft, powdery. South light spaces have a warm, bright feel. Love it!
Love that description Diane!

I'm sure the plants really pop against that Alabaster!
Hi. Does it have some yellow undertones? Three years ago I chose honeid white and it is just a cream yellow that I hate.

I discovered the same issue today when the painter revealed my newly painted bookcase (BM alabaster ) which was different from my trim (SW alabaster)

Haha! Happy to help with boredom!

Love the in depth colour review! So helpful
Glad it was helpful!

SW Alabaster is the white for me! Thanks James for this video!
Good choice!
My builder is using Alabaster on our exterior trim. I would love to see a deep dive on my interior choice of color: Sherwin-Williams Softer Tan
Softer tan is just that!

Love the name for a Siamese cat. That’s great. ❤️
Love the real estate talk lol!

Please tell me what is the color of the wall behind you? It is beautiful! I want to sample it. Thank you for the great info in your vids.
It's allll lighting lol
Ben Moore is is the one for me, so crisp and clean!
It's good isn't it?

Did you check out white opulence. That might have a slightly more pink reflection, depending on the lighting.

Thanks for watching, let me know if that Glidden works out for you!
@@thepaintpeople Will do!

I'd go Swiss Coffee on this one because it's just a tad lighter!
Does it have yellow undertones?
What type of accent color would go with SW alabaster?
So many! Do you have a hue in mind?
Green or blue or grey not to dark . It’s a north facing room.
Brown
I’ve seen BM Alabaster OC 51 so I’m confused 🤔
alabaster from Sherwin Williams is Green tone.
The winner for me would be Benjamin Moore
Winner winner chicken dinner!
First comment! Woohooo!
We did it!
