I first heard it when I was working as a union sheet metal worker when 18. A best friend made a series of mix tapes, and this song was on one of them. I loved listening to it while I worked. It helped me focus and get the job done. Was lucky to see them twice. The first time was in Kansas City, Kansas of all places, in 1999. 4hr drive means nothing to me. The venue was small and packed, but it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. A lot of energy inside that place.. lots. The 2nd time seeing them was in.. 20212-14?? It sucked. It was at a huge open amitheatre but nobody was there. Unlike 1999.. I felt sorry for the band, they played nothing but new music besides orgasmatron and ace of spades but people weren't even cheering or doing nothing. Imagine a giant football field with 30 people total for an audience. Will still never know what happened from 1999 to that later show with less people than Sonic has during lunch happy hr. My girl and I stayed for whole show, just standing up in the grass area, but there were no ecstatic feelings of euphoria and pure joy as the previous PACKED show had been. This song even makes tears well up, not bawling or whimpering, just tears going down face. I believe most if not everything in this song is essentially the truth. Lemmy is just telling us how the world really is right now
You simply cannot top the grimy gritty dark atmosphere of the original song. The lyrics are powerful, violent and disturbing. Lemmy's finest moment as a lyricist and proof that Motorhead could be just as interesting playing fast and slow.
Thank you Lemmy for over four decades of music which will stand the test of time for many, many, many more generations to come. If that's all there is, it ain't so bad brother. Rock and Roll....
