- Young. Wild. Free. is a 2023 American drama film written by Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier, directed by Thembi Banks and starring Algee Smith. It is Banks' feature directorial debut. A teenager struggling to provide for his younger siblings in Compton finds his life turned upside down when he's held at gunpoint by the girl of his dreams.
This was a good movie. Mental illness seems to be only 1 of the main ideas. Internal struggle is the other. Brandon and Cassidy is one in the same. Life circumstances triggered all his actions. We all struggle at times internally. In the beginning he was being fired and just sat there internally he wanted to beat the shit out of the manager. Struggling which side to listen to - the Nice or nasty side. He also held losing the job in from his family. For some, depending on how often and how intense the situations are can lead to a different level (point of severe mental breakdown). The movie revealed almost everything. Most scenes were flashbacks to help us understand the situations that led to his mental illness and things he did while struggling internally. The shaking and ceiling fans let you know he was being triggered and about to do something. He killed the man and no one knew which is why he was not in jail(holding it in is internal struggle leading to mental breakdown) From the very beginning of the moving sitting with the teacher she mentioned since the incident. But they never talk about the incident. The mom Janice also made a comment about a incident but did not elaborate. Both times Brandon responds it was not an incident. Ultimately I got that the incident may have caused him to end up in foster care since he and Cassidy is one in the same and she was in foster care. The foster mom finally got him to counseling because he could not deal with all the trauma experienced and the things he did trying to save his family. That also make me feel the incident (not revealed) was that he lost his true family tragically and grand moms house.
I get it now ,Janice was his foster mom right?
This is a wonderful break down I was confused about the ending and it kinda was hard to piece the flashbacks to the present but when you revealed the “incident” it all make sense ,who ever wrote this need an Oscar 🏆
One more thing do you think the picture he had of Cassidy in his sketchbook was before he had a mental breakdown ? And maybe is that why she appeared as his partner in crime
So his real mom and brother and sister died and the family we see him with is his foster family ?
@@TheBrelala yes and I think he hasn’t really excepted that his family has passed and I think that might be the incident they speak on that wasn’t never revealed
I still don’t get the ending lol
How are y’all questioning what was real? They revealed everything that wasn’t real in the end. Yes, he really did kill that man but no one knows it was him. Even the woman who shot him didn’t see who he was.
so he didnt really get shot or? like i get that cassidy wasn’t real & i watched how everything played back but :/ help pls
I really don’t understand the end. Is he alive or a ghost?
