I got to tell you Steve, I've look at and tried hundreds of golf swing concepts and you golf swing concept (Mike Austin) is really working for me thanks for all you time and effort you have put into your videos.
I’ve been practicing with my 3 wood. Not so worried about my score right now because I’m practicing with it to get it right. I’ve done everything you pointed out. Hitting behind it, topping it, you name it I’ve done it. I’m not giving up on this club. Thanks for the pointers and I’m definitely going to be practicing this.
Love your instructional vids. I actually try to find the low point on each swing which can vary from day to day slightly. Then my mental image for the swing is going through that low point to full extension past the ball. I have found at my age the 5 wood, vs a 3 wood, with a slower controlled swing is best for me. So this is great verification of my trial and error discoveries. Thanks a bunch.
I hit my 3 wood well off a low tee and use it at some of the downhill par 4 holes at my club, love its Acuracy, however, on par 5 holes prefer the 19 degree hybrid to place a reasonable pitch shot onto the green, in my late 60’s now so lack the power so club and course management has become paramount. Really do appreciate you lessons because I understand them, thanks
Hey Steve, after doing the chair drill and a few of your other drills. I've seen much straighter drives with longer hang time. Thanks and keep em coming!
Great vedio I hit my fairway pretty good most of the time. Now and again will stuff it up. but this really help me . Looking forward to practice on the course. I really enjoy your style of teaching.. I have watched many teachers , I'll find you very practical and easy to follow. I watched your driver tip ..your hip movement .. never heard anyone teach on that. I went to the course and I was soo excited that I was hitting straight shots. I play with a draw all the time.. Thank you.
Hi Steve, thank you for that demonstration. I believe that this will not only help with my 3 wood, but also further my understanding of leverage with swinging driver and other clubs also (especially longer irons). Every time I play with a golfer who has played baseball in college and was a batter they seem to really be able to use what they have learned for years to swing a bat and put that into practice with golf. I find that when they tee off there is always a solid hit of the ball and a penetrating ball flight occurs.
I'm going on 70 but I still use the 3 or 5 wood on Par 5s and long 180+ yd. Par 3s. Once in awhile I do top the 3 wood shots off the turf; so there is a need for improvement. I still have a lot of flexibility for my age so I don't have that abbreviated swing common among seniors but I'm sure you're right about it being how I set up and follow through for good contact. Looking forward to getting to the range to work on it. Thanks for the timely post.
Steve, great video. I now know my problem has been knowing the low point must be in front of the ball, but having a tendency to lean back or straighten up to "lift" the ball to gain height. I normally hit a 3 hybrid to hit shorter fairway shots and a 5 wood for longer ones.
Put the hybrid away in the spring. Using the 3 wood and 5 wood. Love them both. It’s funny, I’ve been missing with the driver both ways, but the 3w and 5w off the deck have been fantastic most times.
Thanks Steve I’m loving your videos. This Saturday’s will be my first hit after our lockdown here in Melbourne. So looking forward to it, which will be using your swing setup. I use a 3 wood or hybrid depending on the lie. It would be good to see a chipping and pitching. I watch Austin video but it was a bit hard to follow, so that would by great, thanks Cheers Frosty ☃️
Since following your channel I've gained a lot of distance, ball speed, and height. Case in point - my last today was a 560 yd monster on the card. Great drive, took my 3 wood and it was launched. We actually couldn't find it, I think it must've carried and rolled through our fairway into another one (Hole is also a near 90 degree dogleg left as well, no chance to go for it in 2 really. Never smiled so much losing a golf ball.
Steve, I found your channel a week ago. I've recently taken up golf again after a 5 year break and your tips and exercises have helped tremendously. I was able to squeeze in a round yesterday and shot a 79. I thought it would have a taken longer than it has to see that 7 in there but your Driver set up technique allowed me to keep it in play and long from the tee. I know you're on a quest for bombing drives but, I enjoy your explanations and would like to request some short game tips from 60yrds in and around the green. The short game is in need of refinement and reminders. Thanks for the tips !
Steve, I flare my front foot about as much as your front foot at impact (The only thing is I flare it at address). My question - Wouldn't a better measure of the zero line be the ball of the front foot instep? It looks like that's the pivot point of your foot step flare move. Ill have to experiment next range session.
Hey Steve. Luv your stuff. I notice your left heel turns to the inside on your back-swing and then plants in that position. Left foot goes from almost horizontal to almost vertical. Just haven't heard your comments on this aspect of the swing. Watched some of the modern players today and their left heel pretty much stays planted (sometimes lifts a little) and in the same position through the swing. Not a criticism, everything I do that you suggest makes me hit it straighter and longer, would love you to mention whats happening down there in an upcoming video. Cheers
My "big miss" is a pull-hook. What I have found that helps is to pay attention to my back elbow position...keep it pointing down...and body turn. To Steve's point, the 3w has limited use in my game. I used to use a 3h (190yds) and not carry the 3w (not as a replacement, but because I couldn't hit 3w). Now, I can hit 5w pretty well if the conditions are right. it's a FAIRWAY wood, after all! Now I carry the 3w, but for off the tee mostly. I just don't find the need for a 3h that goes 190. that often on the course I play. I can hit the 5w around 200 instead.
Steve I will hit my 4or5 hybrid to make sure if I can't reach the green to a distance that I know I can use a short iron or wedge. If I find that I am too far away I may take out my 3 wood and if I hit it well I will be on the green or a chip shot away. If I don't catch it clean I will hopefully be able to then reach with a hybrid. I carry a 4-5- 6 hybrid and my longest iron is a seven. I find the hybrids so much easier to hit than a longer iron.
Video and inserted text valuable. Ball position at heel seems personal to you. Your weight shifts forward as your body and hips move forward. I like the baseball exercise - makes it seem natural - explains ball position forward. Question: what’s the length of your club? Your left foot flared is standard. Question: how is your right foot aligned: In line, slightly forward, slightly back? Flared? Or more accurately, are you open, squared or closed at address?
Three Hybrid works for me (70 with some arthritis)-gets it out there 190-200 with roll and in play for the most part-Not too many tops or snake charmers...
13 out of 80 in total, or roughly a fourth of all non-putts, or roughly a third of all full shots (D and GW2i7 the other thirds). 3 wood off the tee only, 90mph D speed. I actually just read today, that they have become more difficult to launch for slower CH speed golfers over time because of the lower spinning golf balls. IME, playing them as a fade can be a band-aid for that, an armsy swing and for taking that divot.
I don’t *use* it quite that much (which is why I was drawn to this video). I am not as confident in it off the tee and use driver sometimes when I really shouldn’t. I also hit my 4 iron almost as far (even though I should hit my 3 wood further), so on some 3-wood type shots I go with 4 iron.
@@CraigRhinehart Yes I have a few students who did the same, until we worked on the underlying issues in depth. I hope you got benefit out of the video.
Steve, I'm working on my game, thanks for the videos. I hit my 4 hybrid to right field on an inconsistent basis but often enough that I don't trust the club. Your thoughts....
On one hole the slope is the ball is lower than my feet, some time ago I decided I tended to hit a slice from this lie. I now use my 3 rescue/hybrid from this lie. I can get past the dogleg (left) and my ball will never end up in the rough over to the right or into the bushes.
I see a lot of your left foot shifting in your swing. Is this just a natural occurrence in YOUR swing or is there reason for it? I feel like consensus in "the golf world" would be "planted feet"
@@Inmotion70 thanks for answering. It amazes me how we get a consensus of do's and dont's from the golf industry. They will have you twisted up like a pretzel and have to do 50 moves to get back to the ball. They all take any natural ability out of the equation.
Dennis here from Michigan. Why are you placing the ball in line with your left instep? Thats the same spot for setting up the ball with the Driver????. You dont bring up the angled shoulders for the driver versus squared shoulders for the fairway wood. Most trainers say set the ball half way between center and the left instep and sweep the ball. Cconfused. Add more detail. PS
I recommend playing the driver up at the big toe or middle toe of the front foot. Your low point should be left instep, right where you should be playing your hybrids and fairway woods.
Like your videos when they pop up some of the times, however I hope you can take a little bit of criticism (hopefully constructive), just my opinion, I get kinda bored and impatient waiting for you to get to the drill or fix, rather than all the time you spend on what is being done wrong. I think most of us know we are doing something wrong or we wouldn’t be looking for answers to correct the problem. Spending so much time on what we might be doing wrong, how we are doing something wrong, in my humble opinion, stress humble, is boring and is wasteful of my time, I want to get out there and start working on the drill, i.e. the cure. Again, just my humble two cents worth. I guess that would explain why I don’t subscribe or hit the like button. I just get bored waiting for the lessons.

It's not intentional...just one of my peccadillos.
New to your channel. I am anxious to try your setup but can you comment on how much you move your front foot at takeaway and follow thru?
Backswing I roll it in and lift the heel slightly. Coming down I have no conscious recollection of what I do besides step down into the heel.

That's just fine. If you can use great strategy and place it near the green you can score very well.
I have a 16.5 degree 3 wood
I use a 5 and 3
I use my 19 5 degree 5 wood

I only need my 3 wood about 3-6 times per round.... only on reachable par 5s and a few shorter par 4s (off the tee)

On a 4 hybrid the face will be 80% of the influence and path 20%. Is your driver the same?
@@Inmotion70 Thanks for the reply; Driver is probably the same. I'll work on squaring the face and aligning the path.
Steve - great video - How does this baseball drill work for the driver? Do you move the low point back more? Hitting them good today!
No - move the ball more forward. Big toe or even middle toe with the foot flared slightly.
Almost at every holes if playing from the blue tees

Should use regular flex or stiff flex. Thanks
Steve, I'm a pickers of the ball always have been. What would be the best way for me to start taking small divots and improve my golf swing.
Tough question without seeing some data and swing video.
This low point swing is the same for every club?
For all your stock shots yes. Left instep for all clubs.
Thank you, I’ve got a lot to learn. 😩
If I need a fairway wood for my second shot on a Par 4, I may be playing the wrong tees 😉
Agree. But you know you'll be the only one.
anyone else notice how he resets his left heel?
Yaa I am confuse how to set up such left heel
Better distance with 5 wood
I have come to love my 3 wood. Lots of range practice but I'm reliably smashing my TS3 3 wood about 280 (265 carry)
You play your woods the same as your driver?
I use a 5 wood for 200 yards.
I see a lot of your left foot shifting in your swing. Is this just a natural occurrence in YOUR swing or is there reason for it? I feel like consensus in "the golf world" would be "planted feet"
