You forgot the other entries to the Budokai series: Shin Budokai, Shin Budokai Another Road, Burst Limit, Infinite World, and DB Evolution PSP. Budokai 3, SBAR, and IW are definitely the best entries in the series.
I alway love infinite world way more then Budokai 3. Because of the fact it balances and no stupid dragon rush. Limited your move. And plus infinite World had more things to do in the story and it also had more GT characters.
Imo 2 had my favorite story mode hands down the board game feel was great done way better than fighterz (in term of story mode gameplay fughterz wins any day)i remember having to try so hard geting kid boos life down with my 2 side fights to give goku a chance to win that fight was so hard. I had to think about geting all the bonus on the feild it has such a special place in my heart
That final Kid Buu fight was genuinely one of the most difficult boss fights of any game I've played. I remember me and my brother taking it in turns trying to beat Kid Buu
When i was a teen in highschool being a dbz fan and only had a gamecube i played abunch of budokai 1 that by the time i was able to get budokai 2 at a used game store it was like getting smash ultimate haha i spent so much time on budokai 2 on the gamecube. Now i dont have em but i have the ps2 with all 3 games and i still have a softspot for budokai 2 even with 3 having more improvements
Budokai 2 had servicable gameplay but the Story mode was.... ughhhhhhh. There are only so many times one can play Dragon Ball Z stylized Sorry! before going clinically insane. I consider it a miracle that they were allowed to make 3, which is a GOAT in my eyes even with the Tenka'ichi series bringing in the fluidity of anime-style combat that we all grew up watching and desperately wanted to emulate. Every subsequent installment makes the og Budokai look turn-based in comparison.
It's basic In a sense because it's just flying around with text bubble dialogue and no cutscenes. Thats as vanilla as it gets. The content within that was pretty cool though. Seeing every characters perspective on things. Still enjoyable overall.
Budokai 3 is and still is my favorite childhood Dragon Ball Z game of all time alongside with Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Legacy of Goku 2, Buu's Fury, Burst Limit, Raging Blast 2, Xenoverse 2, and Kakarot.
What's wrong with your friends? I honestly love the old dragon ball games better than the new ones. I'd much rather play budokai 3 or budokai tenkaichi 3 over fighterz anyday
I happened to find this video by happenstance but man I can tell you put a lot of effort into this. You definitely deserve more subs and you've earned one from me this day.
Great reviews! Minor correction: Tower of Power is a R&B/jazz band that provided the horn section for the game, and the guitars, bass and drums were handled by the rock band, Toto (not officially billed as such, but the guitarist, bassist and drummer were involved).
AS i kid i loves that "boardgame feeling" and that was legendary. "My friends like to play Fighterz over the ps2 games" , well yeah... Obviously, but back then it was the closest thing to a real dragon ball so, we played the heck out of these Budokai games. We played our own tournaments of Budokai3, and that dragonrush was always like an rock paper scissors to have as an minigame between to think about your next moves on the real battle, and it was glorious! budokai 3 is my favourite dragonball game of all time! not that it matters anymore, or to anyone, But that levelling system and that you could send your friend a code of your character was... Legendary! I remember that i shared my 99lvl Vegeta at school and only one of my friends managed to win him. Then we had a real Tournament with 8 players, where on the last match in the finals i showed my SS4 Vegeta and wiped the floor with him, in real DBZ fashion. ( I only turned to ss2 until then and i even got some cheers back then.. I mean i beat anyone in that game! Or atleast back then i did... Sad...) Dragon radar? Just scan the whole world by flying on like.. 15° angle? Fly straight ahead on that angle until your radar say something. but yes. Story mode was lazy as f. Conclusion: Budokai 3 is fun with friends. But you have to beat it almost 100% to have the optimal fun with friends to play with.
It was always Funimation producing the dub, they were just outsourcing to Ocean Studios in the beginning and even when they started using the in-house talent with the Faulconer OST they still used Rock the Dragon as the intro for a while.
I remember playing the first Budokai with friends. My best was Vegeta but god short characters like Gohan and Teen Gohan have so much advantage over tall enemies xD
Maybe its just me but one of everyones gripes is that dragon balls are difficult to find but idk i never had that issue. It seems pretty straight forward to me. You dont even need every stage to get all the dragon balls
interestingly enough, in PAL territories we got japanese audio instead of the dub. Text is all the same but just japanese dialog and Cha-la Head Cha-la. I think it was done as in some european countries the japanese version of the anime was broadcast, so they prefer that cast over a dub, and also just having the one cast with different subtitles for each language saves space on the disc over having multiple dubs.
Just as a small thing to note. Final Bout did not get a sequel because Dragon Ball GT ended airing 3-4 months after it was released. So with no more Dragon Ball content to air Bandai felt there was no point in making any more Dragon Ball games. Hence why there was a long hiatus of DB games after it came out. The newer games such as Budokai came from demand from Western regions for Dragon Ball games. On that note I vastly prefer Final Bout to Budokai in regards to the combat. Budokai's combat comes down to who can mash a button faster to win a fight. Moves like the Kamehameha are quite useless and just not worth using. And while Final Bout is a slower paced game it does have a better combat system for the most part. Though this is strictly regarding Final Bout vs Budokai 1. I much prefer Budokai 2 and 3 over Final Bout.
Yeah, because of the misuse character development like Goten, Trunks, Vegeta, Uub, and so many. They screwing themselves (Toei Animation) with trying to get the original Dragon Ball feel in the beginning in Dragon Ball GT, but it was boring and not as epic or funny like the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. However, they knock out the park with the Baby/Bebi Saga. Some of the storyline in GT doesn't make any sense either.
Head cha la is alright and all but dude me and my friends loved rock the dragon I wish they done more music like that for the show now but me and my homies was rocking when we heard that electric guitar start ripping
Too bad you left infinite world out. It is pretty much the best of the series in form of gameplay. And the shin budokais were a thing on psp. And oddly enough DB Evolution on psp is also a Budokai game. But I guess everyone always forgets about Infinite World at least because it got released after Burst Limit
The shin Budokai games were insane. Having all that Budokai goodness on a handheld. Shin Budokai 2 and Infinite World are definitely in my tops. Infinite World for being a much better Budokai game (Mini games, cutscenes and great difficulty level) and Shin Budokai 2 for the Future Trunks storyline. It's Also Future Gohans first and only Budokai style game. Strange he was the only one who didn't make it in infinite world as the attack the androids used to kill him has existed for a while.
Budokai 2 was my 1st DBZ game I played at 11 not my favorite anymore cause of the story mode but I like the fusions and world tournament mode I mastered budokai 3 and tenkaichi 3 so they're my favorite

Probably because it was luck based rather than skill based. And on higher difficulties the A.I. just plain cheats. Plus the animations get tiresome the more you see them since theyre so long.
@Merciless Freak Aaand there it is. Pathetic. Truly pathetic. As soon as you resort to that ridiculous, nonsensical "blinded by nostalgia" bs, you lose. You have nothing. Rock the Dragon is a cool rock opening to get people hyped for a cool action show. You're blinded by weeabooism.
@Merciless Freak No, it's *NOT* nostalgia. Even if I had grown up with it, that doesn't mean anything. Not gonna work, neckbeard. The Kai dub is hilariously awful, but nice try again. Nope, referring to you as what you objectively are does not lose me the argument. TheSkyrax 669 Budokai 1 has the best story and soundtrack. I just sold Tenkaichi 3 last week, can’t believe someone thought that shit was worth 90 dollars. I’m amazed.

I want to play DBZ Budokai 3 in Gamecube 😭
The transition during tourney mode was part of the loading screens
