Dissin the dead ain't nothin new. It's been done all over for decades. It just used to be more lowkey and directed at top people who were killed. Like killers and shooters that would die it wasn't uncommon in the 90's and early 00's on the East Coast to hear people say their names in a disrespectful way. Hell, 50 put Hommo in "Many Men" and before that NY and Memphis spitters would put mad subliminals in raps about the dead even if they never say a name. What makes Chicago stand out is how often they do it, the fact that it's so front and center with so many rappers, and the fact that they don't gaf if the person they diss was killed as a kid or what they did, they still gonna diss em. Like Fatz was 14, Tooka was 15, Poohbear was 15, etc. A lotta these other cats that get dissed like Lil Boo and Lil B were 17+, had bodies or were shooters causing problems so it makes sense that they'd diss em. But for people like Fatz that probably never did anything but hang with em and died so young it looks corny asl imo for older dudes like Billa to be sayin his name. Like you don't look tough talkin about no murdered 14 y/o that never did shit to anybody bro. That shit just wouldn't play in most places and you'd be looked at as a clown ass mf for doin it. I know it's just meant to hurt the people still here but Idk. Just not a good look. The only exception I seen is maybe THF Raheem cause he was young but he was applying pressure already and if he'd never gotten in the mix they may have let em be.
