When my youngest son was 4 or 5 he used to sing "4 hundred children and caught in the field. I would say "Must be children of the corn"
Hilarious!
Children are so open and honest, even when they're wrong 😆
😀😅🤣😄
Too funny 😁
There is a funny and very poignant story in Ken Dryden's book "The Game" about the song Lucille and Montreal Canadiens hard working forward Rejean (Reggie) Houle. The Game is one of the best sports books ever written and it tells of the team being on the bus and them singing Lucille when it would come on the radio. But they would stop because they realized it was "Reggie's song" and he sang it by himself with great sincerity. The book is worth it alone just to read the story about Guy Lapointe's hair. Actually I think you can see that story in the Google preview. I LOL every time I read it, I recommend you to go find it :)
I saw Kenny in concert once. He said that in a lot of songs that tell a story, there's someone you feel sorry for. In "Lucille," he said, some people feel sorry for the husband, some feel sorry for Lucille, some feel sorry for the four hungry children, "and I met one weird person who felt sorry for the crop in the field."
I feel sorry for the husband! He has more to lose than Lucille’s dreams.
That last part made me giggle lol
🤣🤣🤣
I felt sorry for the four hundred children myself..
😂😂😂😂
She Believes In Me... A must listen of Kenny's
COWARD OF THE COUNTY is a Kenny Rogers Must Hear!!!
My fave..."Somethin's Burning " with the First Edition.
Thank you I've seen him several times. He has always been my favorite 😍 💓
A beautiful Kenny Rogers song is She Believes In Me
Agreed bro. Johnny cash and Kenny are the masters of painting a story
Ruby, also sang by Kenny, is right up there with Lucille...you should really hear it too...you are right...he is one of the best story tellers EVER...give it a listen
Ruby is dark. Great choice
Excellent suggestion
Agreed, even more powerful from an old soldier's point of view.
Ruby is like in my top 5 Kenny songs! Luuuuv it.
“Ruby, Don’t take your love to town” is a favorite of mine!
"Coward of the County" is another great tale told by Kenny.
Through the Years and She Believes In Me. Two beautiful love songs I know you would love Amber. Kenny just had such a raw, yet tender voice that just pulls you in from the first note. Rip Kenny. Thanks for the beautiful memories.
Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 ❤❤
His voice in Through the Years just melts me completely. ❤❤
Twenty Years ago and Ruby don't take your love to town are good songs too
For a rocking side of Kenny, try "Just Dropped In," when he was still with the First Edition.
@Lawrence Carver He was a member of The New Christy Minstrels, along with Barry McGuire, before that.
Reuben James is my favorite Kenny Rogers song but Marty Robbins was one of my favorite story telling country Singers
I can remember him when he had his TV show Kenny Rogers and the First Edition ! He use to be a big rock star before he went country !
I miss Kenny Rogers so much
RIP KENNY
Amber: "Why are we like so invested in this story right now?"
Because Kenny Rogers doesn't just sing a song, or tell a story. He plucks at your heartstrings. Gets you right in the 'feels'. All the great singers do that.
Beautiful song Beautiful singer Beautiful Reaction xxx
Such a sad song, but a great waltz…
Daytime friends, and love will turn you around, are my favorite Kenny songs. Anyone who isn't me tonight, is my favorite duet that he did with dottie west.
Great duet to check out is “Don’t Fall in Love With a Dreamer,” by Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes.
Daughtry…. Over
If you like Kenny, you will love Ann Murray. She’s like the female Kenny Rogers; they even did a duet together. Her voice just pulls at your heart so effortlessly.
One of the best Country songs EVER Released in January 1977 The 70s were the NUKE BOMB
Kenny's " coward of the county is incredible
This song, The Gambler, & Coward of the County all came out when I was a kid (age 10, 11, & 12... I turned 55 yesterday). Coward of the County is my favorite as it's another great story told in song form. That one will really get you worked up, once you realize what the song is about. But it has a awesome message behind the lyrics. Please give that one a listen to soon, you won't be disappointed.
Other wonderful love songs from Kenny include - She believes in me, Through the years, You decorated my life, Don't fall in love with a dreamer, We've got tonight, & You can't make old friends...
Parabéns! sou fã de Kenny Rogers / Brasil.
Kenny's Greatest hits is a great album! So many great songs, he was my first concert, I saw him in 1977 / 78 at the front row theater.
My Grandmother's name was Lucile. She loved this song.
A good love song from Kenny Rogers is "Love the World Away".
Another good song he did was
"The most beautiful girl in the world "
Thanks for the music.
His TV movie series made from the song the gambler was a fun watch !
Amazing career ! I grew up on him and did see him in concert once !
One of my top Kenny Rogers songs. Another one of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs I would like you to react to is “The Greatest (The Baseball Song)
So many good ones my favorite is Love Will Turn You Around. Through the Years is a great anniversary song. Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamers. Love The World Away. So glad I got to see him before he passed away
“ In a bar in Toledo across from the depot” The bar was called The Country Palace. My dad was a cop and knew the owner. My dad was security when Kenny Rogers was honored at the bar doing publicity for the song.
Hard to picture Kenny rocking out on "Just Dropped In(To See What Condition My Condition Is In)" back when he was young.
While I grew up with all this music I love to see the newness in your eyes that’s my delight !! There is much to behold
"She Believes In Me" (1978) is a Kenny Rogers song that really shows off the strength of his vocals. He's best known for songs like "Lucille" because his voice is so appealing in soft songs like this. But I think you'll really appreciate "She Believes In Me".
As a kid I thought he said 400 children..Sorry..loved his songs then and now. Thank you for playing I love his duets!
Tom T. Hall is known as “the storyteller”. Check out “watermelon wine” , “faster horses” or “ballad of $40”. People also like “I love”. Fun fact: He also wrote “Harper valley pta”.
faster horses, younger woman, older whiskey and more money. yes yes
I agree, Tom T Hall, was a great storyteller, too.
When I was a kid I always sang. You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel, three wheels left and I’m going downhill, you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
You can’t go wrong with any Kenny song. A true talent and sorely missed.
Great singer and actor you sorely missed x
My dad used to sing “You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel”. He would crack himself up.
One of my favorite Kenny songs
Before he switched to Country , he had a band called The First Edition and one of his most famous songs were, "Ruby, Don't Take Your Lve To Town". He reissued it when he switched to Country, but it stayed essentially the same song. Listen & enjoy.
"I jest dropped in...ta see what condition my condition was in...." :)
@@mjabqmanwk Yes! Too bad most thumbs up go to his better known love songs.
Oh My Word. my brothers used to sing this song on the bus getting all the younger kids singing it too and the bus driver had to deal with it as an anthem on the bus for months. but there were no fights. they all got a kick out of it. for them it was funny the way he was singing it.
“Coward of the county”. Give it a listen! Kenny’s great!
I was just about to suggest that song myself, such an amazing song
Love this song so much!
I agree. You need to do Coward of the County.
Such a great song ❄️❤️❄️🇨🇦
An early Kenny Rogers song, "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town". Great story and I think you would really enjoy this song about a Viet Nam soldier home from the war.
Another vote for Ruby. Rogers sings this one from the POV of the jilted husband.
Ruby was a song written by Mel Tillis and was originally about the Korean War instead of the one in Vietnam.
Great song!
I'll tell you what I can tell you about a song that nobody knows it's by the mister Dave Dave did it Dave Loggins does anybody remember David Loggins Loggins? My brothers now I got a side I got to mr. Lock and say could sing a song now that's what I say j&a he had a good and with the Please Come to Boston Please Come to Boston baby it is by Dave Dave did it Dave Loggins hello
Gotta love Kenny he was the absolute best and we all miss him xoxo rip
I remember being a kid and singing "You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel" and yeah, I did the four hundred children thing too! Seriously though guys, you two need to react to his songs from his Kenny Rogers and the First Edition days....believe it or not, he went psychedelic.. check out "Just Dropped In".... or even better.... "Something's Burning"
She believes in me is a good one
There is an "Answer" song called "Thanks for leaving, Lucille"
Basically, He gets with Lucille's kid sister, he discovers oil. He is rich and happy.
Should you listen? Maybe. Not worth a reaction, but a cute little cash grab.
A great song to listen to from Kenny is "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town"
RUBY!! YES!! 👍🏻😃❣️😃👍🏻
The answer song was interesting. And because I looked it up, I also found a song from Lucille's POV called "Lucille's Answer". Basically her defending herself and saying the husband's actions led her to leave.
I love you guys I really do and that's why I thought I could make it through this song. I haven't heard it since 1980. That's the year my Ma passed and this, her favorite song, was played at her funeral. I have not listened to it since. I tried I made it to the first 'fine time to leave me' but I couldn't finish. Gave you a thumbs up though. Have a great night.
Coward of the County is one of my favorites. It is a good story telling song that really gets you drawn in for sure
When Kenny first started his band was the "first edition." Check out ,t just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in. It will shock you!
I remember listening to this around 2 in the morning while doin home work..probably 7th grade..great reaction guys! If you want story telling check out Tom T. Hall, you will love him!
YES!! ❤❤TOM T HALL!! 👍🏻😃❣️
Tom T. Hall. Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine. Sneaky Snake is cute for the kids.
Tom T Hall had some great songs:
Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine
Faster Horses
The Year That Clayton Delany Died
And I'll echo Rene
Sneaky Snake is a fun song.

Kenny sounds like my childhood home.✌️✌️✌️
Another classic Country story teller is Marty Robbins! His "El Paso" is a must hear song.
The song is soul full, sorrowful & shows his heart ache & remorse for his fellow man.
I love how you both got invested in the story. Jay says, "you better put your ring back on" and Amber says "Go back home."
It's so great to see people who can appreciate that music can have many purposes. It's not just about the beat to make you dance, but it can be about conveying meaningful stories that touch your heart, or it can just be about making you laugh or cry.
A big Kenny Rogers’s fan . Now you should listen to Merle haggard-Okie from Muskogee and Mama tried.
Kenny was huge in the crossover hits, so even if you didn’t listen to country music you still heard him plenty on top 40 stations. One of his oldies but goodies that kinda gets lost in all of his big hits is “Tell It All Brother”.
Kenny Rodgers was absolutely Magical.
RIP sir! 🎶🎹🥁🎸🎤🎵❤️
Coward Of The County for more story telling....
Don't Fall In Love with A Dreamer..... Absolutely, beautiful! Trying to remember if you did that one🤔
You two are absolutely the best!
Can't deal with "Coward of the County"... using a gang rape as a prop for a young man's coming of age is just gross.
But if they want to hear another great Kenny Rogers "she done him wrong" song, I suggest "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town".
Kenny Rogers was one of the greatest story tellers ever. His voice was so smooth and his so could touch you deeply. Coward of the County is another that you can visualize in your mind as he sings it's. You can feel the emotion the young man in the song is going through. Kenny Rogers just had this way of taking you on a journey through his music. I started listening to him when I was around 8. I'm 52 now. He is one of the best singer, song writers that ever lived. It's sad that he's passed away. But his music and stories will live on.
My mother was IN LOVE with Kenny Rogers. "That's one sexy white man." I remember doing a triple take then laughing. We lived in the hood but my southern mother watched all the country shows.
He had a great voice
Love Kenny Rogers!!!
My favorites are "Coward of the County" and ,"The Greatest or the Baseball song"
Saw Kenny in concert, awesome performer!
I saw Kenny Rogers in the 80's and the opening act was the Righteous Brothers. What a show that was!
When we use to go visit my grandmother .. my daughter about 5 was always asked to sing for her.. This is one of those songs.. When he sings .. with 4 hungry children and a crop in the field.. she always sang .. with 4 hundred children ...lol.. and she is now 47 .. and the whole family sings it that way.
Please react to "Coward of the County." Not to mention "Ruben James," "Love Will Turn You Around" so many great songs.
My dad #RIP (1938-1988) used to walk around singing this chorus..thanks for the memories...
Harry Chapin is another great singer/songwriter who knew how to tell a story so well. Please react to Cat’s in the Cradle…one of his best known.
For another great voice. Don Williams. My favorites from him.
"Lord, I Hope This Day is Good" or "I believe in You"
When this song first came out people made fun and sang it without just listening to it...the chorus was really the only part most sang...I listented to the entire song and I loved it...its so sad but such a great song and sang with such powerful vocals...this is my favorite song from Kenny...love this. So glad you finally reacted to it.
One of the most eclectic of singers - scored hits across most all of the modern genre - pop, rock, jazz, blues, country, folk - - -
My first memories of Kenny are from the "New Christy Minstrels" - some members of which split off to form "The First Edition" . Their hit "I Just Stopped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In" showcased his unique voice.
Definitely "Coward of the County" and Ruby by first edition Kenny's old band...great job
Coward of the county is amazing and a punch in the gut
Kenny and Glenn Campbell were the best at story-telling songs!!! Oh, and Jim Croce!!!
More Kenny I'd love to see you react to: "Love Will Turn You Around", "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", "Sweet Music Man", "Daytime Friends", "She Believes In Me", "Desperado" (Eagles' Cover), "Everytime Two Fools Collide", "Blaze of Glory", and that's just off the top of my head...there are so many more...
Oh, man, J I was just going to post about what a great storyteller Kenny is when you made your comment lol. Two of my favorites are songs from when he was in the First Edition - Just Dropped In (To see what condition my condition was in ) and Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town.
Kenny tells a good story. Two of his songs were made into movies starring Kenny Roger's. Coward of the County and The Gambler, actually there a few Gambler movies I believe.
just a fun fact, there are many songs with mis heard lyrics, and this is one, instead of 4 hungry children some comedians suggested it was 400 children and that's why she was running away
Ruby is another along this line I
think you guys would enjoy. Master storyteller and so loved ❤
One of my favorites!
Kenny is awesome....I grew up with my sister playing him in the house in the 80s
I don't know if you reacted to his song "Coward of the county" but that's a great story song too
Kenny had a unique voice he came from my hometown Houston tx
With both of being former athletes, I think you’ll both appreciate The Greatest by Kenny Rogers.
Always loved this story song.... Thanks for bringing this and thanks for the great analysis/reaction.
It's interesting that Kenny's character in this song was definitely a man with a conscience. It didn't matter how good she looked when he saw her for what she really was. Great message!
The Legends of Country will always Rule.✌💞🙏
Another great song by Kenny (as someone has already mentioned)is "We've Got Tonight". It's a duet he did with Sheena Easton. It really is a beautiful love song. ❤🎵💙🎼
Coward of the county was one of my favorites he sang
Any Kenny song is great! They’ve named most of them but Ruby is when Kenny was part of The First Edition…. Tells another sad story. For a song for couples who have been together for a long time you need to listen to Through The Years
This.
His song Tell It All Brother is one of my all time favorite songs
Try ‘She Believes In Me’ or ‘Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamer’ next. ‘We’ve Got Tonight’ with Sheena Easton is another good one. There’s also a live version of that with Dolly Parton that is awesome too.
When he sang this in concert, the audience took it over!
This is not the original single. That one is much more emotional. More grit in his voice too. Listen to the original when you get the chance.
I thought something sounded off. Thanks for confirming it.
This song reminds me of a certain house I was visiting when it came out. Funny how the memories come up.
