What made Earthquake an "event" when it ran in theatres was it was presented in sensurround. Sensurround was an extra level of bass sound that was amped up in the theatre whenever the earthquake hit, causing the audience's seats to rumble. 😁
The whole concept of experiencing a movie's effects in your seat was spoofed in a sketch in the 1977 comedy, Kentucky Fried Movie.
More broadly, the whole disaster-movie trend was spoofed in a little-known 1970s teen comedy called Drive-In. During the antics at the drive-in, there are periodic jumps to the action on the big screen. Each time, the Charlton Heston-like lead is fighting his way through a different disaster.

This is an awesome bit of fact, Rob, thanks! I don’t know that they did that, so I have to look into it more. Really cool. Thanks for the info, man!

Thanks so much for the lovely words and shoutout, I appreciate you very much, I’m also a huge Asylum fan myself and just love the effort they put into their films, You’ll have a good time with bullet train down, Top gunner: Danger zone, I wasn’t a fan of tomb invader, And if you haven’t seen planet Dune yet I recommend that one that was really good. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it and enjoy your videos.

Hi Branden. Must admit not many here that interest me but I do love 70s disaster movies and Earthquake has some great practical effects sequences in it.

An explanation of the TV and equipment you use to watch 3D movies would be an interesting video. It's a shame that it's nearly impossible to buy or find a 3D TV anymore. After I watched the terrific/fun 3D Spy Kids Game Over (dvd) on regular equipment with the supplied glasses I'll never understand why 3D blu ray went to such a complicated setup (specialized tv, electronic shutter glasses, etc), only to fail as a viable format.

I was actually watching something with my daughter this morning thinking about how useless all these 3D discs are going to be in likely not that long, frankly. I just have one traditional 3D TV at this point - a 47” Toshiba from many, many years ago - and once that inevitably goes, my only other option is my PlayStation VR, which I thought was really uncomfortable to watch a movie wearing, especially as someone with glasses. PS VR2 doesn’t even have 3D Blu-ray support, which is a bummer.
So, you’re absolutely right about it being a shame that 3D TVs are hard to find these days. Given their size, they’re not exactly things I’d want to just have stored away, either, lol. I need to replace my old projector, which was an active 3D projector that worked well. My current TV is passive, so the cheap 3D glasses from the theatre work with them, fortunately. But yeah it’s a dying format that I need to take advantage of while I still have access.
Anyway, that’s a ramble, but thanks for the comment and the idea!
