- VIH Helicopters Kamov Ka-32 C-FMKV is seen starting-up and taking off to fuel up, then relocating to park. At the same time, another Kamov Ka-32 of VIH Helicopters, C-FMKV, is seen on the approach and landing. What an awesome sight to see these two impressive coaxial rotor helicopters together at CNZL!
Great heavy pulling helicopter. I watched a start, 20 meters away, and have had serious problems not falling down, incredible air pressure power. One of my most impressive moments this livetime…. 🙏🙏🙏
I love these heavy-lifters as well, such a cool and unique design!
The counter rotation of the blades seems like such a good system. No wasted power going to a tail rotor. I just can’t understand why it’s not more common especially for heavy lift helicopters.
The power "drain" is very low. Some, such as the angled one on the Blackhawk actually provide additional lift for the aircraft. The reason coaxial rotors are less common than helicopters with tail rotors is because the extra expense, maintenance costs and complexity isn't worth it. However, the NOTAR design that is used on some versions of the MD500 has proven to be less complex and expensive to maintain than traditional tail rotors. The future of helicopters without tail rotors is with NOTAR, not coaxial rotors.
And then theres the "Hook".... You want a plane? where? oh there... sure I'll fly it over with my helicopter xD
Wonderfull vid -lots of information for modellers of this brilliant Heli ! Wales UK
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!
I am going to build a 1:72 scale Ka-32 after watching these vids on YOuTube !
TheHDAviation It sounds similar to the Bell 206!
The engineering in a rotor mast like that is just insane. Magnificent.
Ditto 👍👍
Beautiful sound. 🚁🚁🚁. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍

Is this a Fire Fighter?
Yes, it was fighting a wildfire in the area.
That rotorhead looks complicated.
Ya, I wonder what kind of maintenance these require compared to a more conventional helicopter.
Why this thing dont have back rotor?
It has 2 contra-rotating so it doesn't need tail rotor.
@@sotirzvanidjubre4109 then how this thing rotate?
@@yagoovirus2751 By adjusting an asymmetrical incidence of the blades of the top and bottom rotor.
world second Kamof operation country is....
Korea, Republic of. I guess we have over 60s.
its very common in here, some construction sites hire them and move over-weighted stuffs on high points.
oh, their main operation is fire fighting with dumping water. they endure against strong side winds under forest fire. but engine endurances are not good :( huge gas consumtion 🤑🤑 and very loud.
in short, Russian style🤣🤣🤣
oh, I notice the difference what canadians and ours, Korean firefighing Kamof have inside water dumping tanks(developed by Korean) not a water bucket. tanks capacity is 3400 litter or 900 gallon.
That's very interesting, I had no idea KA-32's were operated in Korea. Thanks for the information! Love these unique Russian machines, a pretty cool design.
Jongsoo Kim ...Ka-32 this is the development of the Ka-25 project of the late 50s of the last century (Ka-25 First flight 1961), I remind you that kerosene was cheaper than water at that time ... for comparison, the old us cars of the late 50s of the last century ..( huge gas consumtion and very loud. this is in short, Russian style ?

Junk 😁
Junk flying!!!
Always liked the kamov helos.. the counter rotating rotors not only looks cool but actually works well.
I love them as well, really unique design to see. It's cool to see a few of them operating in British Columbia.
Russian technology! This thing will still fly in 50 years. It's funny. If REALLY robust technology is needed in the West (e.g. fire-fighting helicopters), Russian technology is used. The Kamow helicopters are considered the safest machines in the world. A clever design. The two counter-rotating rotors neutralize the torque around the vertical axis, without a fault-prone tail rotor would be necessary. The Russian combat helicopter Kamow KA-52 is the most elegant helicopter for me.
KA-52 best of the best ;)
I want one for Christmas maybe . I am not rich enough bawahahahaha

Wow, absolutely stunning! What a sound those rotor's make. Your microphone did a fantastic job at blocking out the turbulent air noise and keeping that stunning, beating sound! Liked!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

Amazing how the red beast's tail raises ever so slightly whenever the pilot applies full power while it's sitting on the ground - almost like it's rearing to go. Beautiful aircraft. Thanks.

The mast alone is an engineering wonder!
WOOOW!! It is so awesome to see this impressive helicopter from Bern flying in Canada now. The mighty red livery is still much the same but I love how it has been transformed from a Swiss into a Canadian design with lovely maple leaves!! Thank you so much for this great video! I am going to share it with my friends here. They will be delighted! Cheers Matt
Thanks so much Matt! This was definitely one of my favourite catches from the summer, the Ka-32 is one awesome machine. And it was even more special to see it still in the Swiss/maple leaf hybrid livery :-)

I agree, love this awesome design.
Beautiful footage and sound of this great aircraft. Lovely coloured trees. Cheers Matt
Thanks very much Matt!
Beautiful. Makes me wonder why conventional helicopters with tail rotors are still built.

Co-axial, the easiest to learn when starting to fly remote controlled helicopters. It looks ugly, but a step closer to knowing how to hover, move on 6 axis and graduate to the collective pitch single main rotor blade helicopter that requires more pilot skills. The Kamov, Russian made and design finds its place in Canada's fire fighting arsenal.
I'm really glad a few of them have made their way over to Canada, it was a nice surprise to see them operating out of CZNL for a few weeks. Love the design!

Good thing there's no emergency,
Would be great to read a feedback from the Canadian pilots of Kamov heli
I bet it could lift the carbon tax!!👍
Captain Caveman looks pretty mean
What is the transmission case of the Russian Kamov helicopters made of ? I would assume titanium .
It's aluminum alloy on the choppers I used to work on. I have no idea what the Russians are using though.
Great shot bud.Beautiful Kamov.
Thanks!
These are heavy lift helicopters, VIH uses them for heli-logging, taking over Helifors work load after they closed down. They surely also use them in the interior for fire fighting and other lifts
I don't make cars but they can make military equipment
Those heavy lift operators are making it look more complicated than it really is. Don't waste time get in quick fill up and get going. Don't just hover there in no man's land. Especially when they cost hundreds of dollars per minute to run and not to mention lives a risk with a burning fire or a customer complaining because you take too long...

This helicopter looks very nice inCanadian color scheme
I agree. It's in the Heliswiss livery, and they added some maple leaves to make it more Canadian. Really suits it well!
The horror will not pass the Russian military admissions office. The demands are very high. And the main one is survivability in battle. This is an adapted naval helicopter. Or do you need a flying Rolls Royce?
so i heard you like swash plates!!
wait, with kanadian paint job ? cool
This one is in the Heliswiss livery, they used to operate it before VIH, but it has had the addition of some maple leaves to make it a little more Canadian 😃
Cool!
Always loved hearing helicopters start up to 80,000 and more . Wait a minute two propellers that would be like 160,000 rpm right ? Look out Eiffel Tower . I want one ☝️
On most helicopters the main rotors never go faster than 800 rpm, or so, to keep the rotor blade tip speed subsonic under all flight conditions.
Weird seeing Russian coaxial helicopters in North American Service
Yes, it was a nice surprise to see a couple of them here fighting fires.
Mr. Helicoptor want its flight.
What is the advantage of that cluster flop counter rotations props. Is it just a Russian thing to be different from US made helicopters?. Stupid looking and has to be a maintenance nightmare.
Traditional heli design diverts 30% engine power to the tail rotor. Counter rotating blades eliminates the need for a tail rotor. It may look stupid but it certainly is practical and efficient. As for maintenance nightmare's ...its a helicopter, they're all nightmare's.
would a normal helicopter be able to fly without its tail?
