This can be done with any switching power supply. With the switch you turn off the IC inside which is the signal generator. The only problem is that you didn't put the cooling back on! It will burn out easily. And what you didn't show and actually the whole mess ended up in the trash what you did. To make it an inverter and an amplifier you had to build an amplifier and a CLK generator.

Good luck with repairing the speaker if you forget to change over the inverter/amp switch or accidentally press it with a speaker attached. Plus, it's always good to use a male socket with exposed pins as a mains level connector. You can then easily test it's working buy touching it- just make sure you've already written your will first. Alternatively, buy a cheap amp for a few £ with a cheap PSU for the same. Easy to connect, guaranteed to work.

Why chop all of the leads before you decide what you are going to use. Longer leads help isolate heat from the components.
