AS a retired U.S. combat vet, with 3 tours in Iraq, this shakes me every time! It makes me have too many different emotions, ranging from pride, to sadness, from brotherhood, to despair, from victory, to loss of a friend. Yes, it is very possible to cry with sadness, and smile with joy, at the same time!
In 1991, with in 2 months of getting married, my hubby left for Desert Shield/Storm. This was one of his favorite songs by Dire Straits. I had him listen to this version and he hated it...but not for the reason I thought. It brought back memories, the tone is what got to him. It was (is still) healing him from the "Road of Death" he had to clean, the Sarin gas they were hit with (which the Us govt just admitted to), and he still suffers ramifications of. God bless you and your's!
@@catchersmom16 I also deployed to Desert Strom in '91. IT was NOT fun. Went back in '94 and '97. Didn't WANT to go back but wanting is not a part of the program. I know it was really tough for him to go right before you got married. That is high anxiety. Then many, like me, came back a bit "changed". A lot sadder, a lot madder, and a lot mentally affected. How can you not be? What he needed the most was your love. That was the glue that kept most of us together.
@@beadwright Tks much! It was a long time ago, but simple tks means a whole lot to vets. We get embarrassed by a "thank you", but have no doubt it makes us feel pride when someone cares enough to say it! Tks again!
Brothers in Arms, is a song/anthem/hymn written and performed by Dire Straits' lead singer and guitarist, Mark Knopffler. What a great tribute to other human beings, as opposed to the act of war. It seems that the more we hear of and from Home Free, we sometimes overlook their incredible ability to move us with their harmonies. This was no exception. Exquisite, would be the word for this particular performance. As for Tim Faust's bass, it is remarkably full-bodied and resonant. I deem him to be a true 'Basso Profundo,' who can also sustain notes until the cows come home. There are some RUclipss of Tim actually blowing out speakers! We should also celebrate the fact that there is no one member more important than another - they all help the music shine! Very few 'bands' lasts as long as Home Free has been around - a true testament to muted egos. Isn't that what it's all about? I am looking forward to your discovering their playful side, which adds yet another facet.
I consider this their masterpiece. The harmonies are off the charts. This was written by Mark Knopler of the band Dire Straits after the Falklands War between Argentina vs the UK in the early 1980's.....it's just mnesmerising & shows the absolute talent these men have...off the charts
Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional, especially with what is happening in Ukraine. An important message, from which I hope that people will learn from it one day. Doesn't matter which country. Though I'm afraid it will never happen. I am Dutch myself. My father served in the KNIL (Royal Netherlands Indies Army) army. He was imprisoned in a Japanese camp for 4 years, often in isolation. With the help of a fellow prisoner, who sometimes secretly gave him some bread and water, he survived. He married my mother, had 5 children, of which I am the youngest. We were raised hard otherwise we wouldn't make it in this world, he said. He died in 1969 at the age of 50 3 days before my 6th birthday from the physical effects he had left over from the war. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound
This video demonstrates why Home Free is such an incredible band. A great song with truly meaningful lyrics, sung in an amazing arrangement, by great voices, filmed and edited in a poignant manner. They are consummate story tellers. And they can do it across styles, music genres, decades of music, ... This is the magic of Home Free.
This is a cover of Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" based on their reaction to events in the Falklands war. Then Club for Five did an excellent a capella cover. They allowed Home Free to use their arrangement, which Home Free then adapted to their style.
I find that HF's version has much tighter harmonies and always on key. If you listen carefully, you really can't say that about Club for Five. I also believe that the Club for Five's accents got a little in the way for our North American listening and the bassist wandered off key a little too often. Still, it's like comparing apples to oranges - they are both tasty. God bless all who make good music....
When I was growing up we were taught to embrace that people are different and rejoice in our shared values. Not that we have to agree with each other, but that we learn from each other
T his video should have been acknowledged. It's awesome, the song is for veterans day, but really for all times. Tim has blown speakers, dropped ceiling tiles. Even got my hearing aides to shut down. Great reaction, thank you
What you missed was that while they were singing this hymn they were emulating a church pipe organ. You have just heard Tim and Chance take the leads, and you have heard Rob and Austin (Nessun Dorma) so you are probably ready to be even more impressed watch their cover of Mayday. You may want to re-watch this immediately prior to watching Mayday, just to refresh your memory.
I love this group!! You are correct about the bass singer Tim. I've seen them live in concert and you can feel his voice just rumble right through the body. I love your reactions they are so intelligent and bring out things I haven't noticed. Ok, I'm a subscriber.
The song has lost nothing of its topicality, on the contrary, the message is more current than ever. It is very emotional. The guys did a fantastic job. Tim and Chance's voices are phenomenal! Wow 💥
Darnell, I have just discovered you today, seen two of your Home Free takes (Butts and Brothers--how's that for contrast!). Your commentary ranges from the bizarre to the brilliiant, and is constantly entertaining. It is clear that you are a very bright bulb (lots of excess grey matter). Thanks for sharing. You certainly add spice to life!
So heartfelt! Their rendition of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the Navy Choir is amazing...I cry every time I hear it...and I'm Canadian. lol
@@darrnellbradley Oh no, that's fine. Some of the songs say cover and some don't. They have some good originals though. What's left of my heart is the latest one that Tim wrote. Champagne taste on a beer budget is another. (Funny) The longer you dig into their stuff the more they amaze you.

Wasn’t that incredible?!!! Tim (bass) is amazing. And the most amazing thing about him is that he has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low like here and then sing up high with the tenors. Funny enough, Tim has broken speakers and made tile ceiling squares fall. I was able to see them last year and had seats in the mezzanine and thought oh crap I won’t be able to hear Tim’s bass. Uh, no problem. We heard him throughout the theater and his bass goes through you. This is a song from Dire Straits about war in the 80’s. That was guitar driven where this is voice driven. Loved the echoes, loved the black and white look to the film. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. Good reaction Darnell!😃
Love that we get Chance & Tim on this one. And Adam sings harmony since there's no beatboxing. Also....listen to it in your car it definitely makes your whole body rumble....my hairs are standing up as Im on my way to work doing exactly that lol.
If we start with ourselves and purpose to live what we believe in our heart no matter what those around us do, it will be the beginning. I love this song.
The bass, Tim Foust, is amazing. You need to check out his mashup of Will you still love me tomorrow/Stay, this shows his range. Or if you want to stay with the group then Home Free - Mayday will shock you.
If you have listen to voice play another Acapella group Geoff the bass player for them is also great but Tim foust from home free helped teach him on how to go low. He has a certain way that helps for someone to learn. Being my age I don't think so, but if you could find out and practice who knows. Totally incredible
Cultural differences are always going to cause some issues, but the weaponization of culture during the last couple of decades is very concerning.
