  • KISS, Midnight Oil, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi are interviewed by Stu Jeffries for the CBC TV series GOOD ROCKIN' TONITE taped in Vancouver in 1988. Formed in 1973, KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley talk about their new fans and marriage. The hit "Beds are Burning" by the Australian Sydney band Midnight Oil was about giving native Aussie lands back to the Pintupi aboriginals, as explained passionately by Peter Garrett. From New Jersey, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, David Bryan moved to Vancouver in 1986 to record Bon Jovi's breakthrough and Top Selling LP of 1987, Slippery When Wet. They first talk about their favourite watering hole, strip joint #5 Orange. Bruce Dickensen of Iron Maiden talks about their 1988 concept album, "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, " their first #1 in the UK since "The Number of the Beast."

This is when maiden took over as the face of heavy metal, at their zenith. A couple of years later, Metallica produced the Black album, stepped into heavy metal from thrash metal temporarily, and also produced an amazing album, which tripled their fan base and put them ahead of maiden in the USA about level with maiden Calculating everything including internationally, both staying at the top of heavy and thrash metal respectively, until the present day - still playing in their late 60s and early 60s, respectively

A year on the road, Jon? Nah, try a year and a half - good thing he didn't know this yet at the time of this interview...! That New Jersey tour was truly crazy, the stuff of legends. A new decade began while they were touring the record!
