I'm pretty sure plenty of ARMYs would explain what the situation was at that time but I just want to mention that to prove their innocence and stop the rumors, BigHit submitted themselves to investigations and the result was made public. They were not guilty of any chart manipulation at all. Rumors were spread by fans of the groups who lost at that time.

I think BTS was “half-famous” because they were not part of the Big 3. BigHits couldn’t afford to pay for airtime for them (and they DEFINITELY couldn’t afford to pay for chart manipulation). Even if they were on a show, their slot would often get cut. BTS had to get themselves in front of fans through sheer talent and determination. But I think their sincerity, relatability and authenticity kept them in front of fans. I became a fan during the BS&T era - it only took 1/2 a MV and I was instant ARMY. My favorite era of theirs is HYYH (all parts) - just the most heartbreaking and amazing era.

You said what I was just gonna comment! Also, the reason why that guy said, "The half famous ones? They're actually the worst." is this: Famous groups (backed by large companies) basically have their career set for them. Of course, they work hard too, but they pretty much have a road of decent success ahead. The groups that no one knows? Their career is over, which is sad, but it also means that they don't have anything to slave over now. Meanwhile, the middle tier, has it the worst because *they have to keep working* - nothing is set in stone for them and every comeback means more resources spent by their companies, so they're risking everything by continuing to push forward. That's what BTS were in their first few years. Having considerable fame outside of Korea, but not being recognized (and being mocked) in their own country. I'm glad they now have the success they deserved 💜

Exactly. There are different shows such as M! Countdown, Music Bank, Inkigayo, and so on that each have a weekly show.
And just to add a little more info because this is rarely mentioned here on youtube that I sometimes wonder if yt ARMYs are even aware of this. On several of these shows, we international fans actually get to vote as well. The different shows usually have an app, where fans can collect daily points. When BTS releases a new single we then use these points in the app to vote. We have voting organizations on Twitter that are great at motivating ARMY to take part.

"You've worked hard."="Good job" or "Well-done" is a good catch, I think the same too. Tho I'm Asian, in my country, we don't have an equivalent to this expression and we usually borrow english expressions like "good job" "nice". I'm not very familiar with other cultures but I usually hear "You've worked hard" expression as a form of appreciation from Koreans and Japanese. In Japanese, it is said as "Otsukare samadeshita", BTS always say this phrase to J-armys and J-staff whenever they have a concert in Japan. Hobi usually say the phrase in tune and one time he asked the live band to play an instrumentals over it, then Yoongi suggested that what if we made it into a song, thus "Otsukare", trot song, was born, originally by Hobi and Yoongi and performed by the 2 of them only (It's so funny to think how did they convince Yoongi to sing & dance a trot song, lol), then much later an OT7 performance of it was done too. They usually perform this on Musters, it's a fanmeeting concert, a little bit laidback and more intimate with fans, they usually perform songs that wasn't included in their tour setlist. I will put a link under this comment if ever I'll find the fanmade video compilation on how "Otsukare" was born. Armys are so amazing in finding the vids and connecting them to tell the story.

bighit didnt do sajaegi TT to do that you need a lot of money and jin had even spoken against it in an award show speech. this entire series is meant to show you the contrast between what the other kpop acts did and what bts did defying all the stereotypes and norms that only thr big company kpop groups could be successful. they didnt rely on any institutional pillar (media or money etc) unlike other acts and rather grew organically with the help of their fans and music.

BTS is anti-chart manipulation/sajaegi. In 2019 MAMA, they won all 4 daesangs (grand prize awards), and in one of their acceptance speeches for a daesang, Jin spoke on behalf of the group to encourage artists/industry to get their music heard in honest ways and he did it as respectful as possible. I could tell the members agreed to have this message for this acceptance speech (i was watching it live online), because when they went up to get the award, the members faces were all serious. When Jin finished his speech, RM on the side immediately nodded knowingly and clapped in agreement.

They weren’t in a financial position to do chart manipulation. They weren’t an overnight success either, people just didn’t pay attention to them until they started winning and didn’t think they should be beating these more known groups. There’s a whole video on SM trying to buy BTS from BigHit becuz they were competing with their groups. But they were known for buying competing artists from their companies and then shelving them, while pushing their other artists. Thank goodness PD Bang said NO!

BTS didn't manipulate the charts. They didn't buy their own albums. The accusation of sajaegi for BTS was all false. Bighit doesn't have the means to do any of that bcos their company near to bankruptcy that time. I NEED U and HYYH Album save them from disbandment and bighit from bankruptcy.
Big3 companies are the ones who complains for BTS being #1 bcos they can't accept the fact that a group from small is thriving. They just want to ruin bangtan.
BTS IS ORGANIC. All of their success is ORGANIC since day1 up until now. They won the court. They prove that them receiving #1 for their Album was all right. And the demands was really high. @GetSidewaysReacts - Thanks for reviewing the Rise of Bangtan Series. Really enjoying it. One small point - a reminder - there is no way financially that Big Hit would have been able to manipulate the charts at that time since they were nearly bankrupt. What the Big 3 Agencies and their fans were doing - and are still doing - is spreading lies and rumors to knock BTS out of the way so their artists can be on top.

For me as a fan, it was a tough time with all the backlash that they were getting. But I knew BTS deserved to be recognized.

Did you know, that EVEN AFTER WINNING their first n1, BTS had to do stuff like dancing in the background of a model runway to earn some money. For the next MV after I Need you, they used staff's personal cars. There are pictured of it online, it seems so crazy but it shows they had to do a lot to have money. And you're telling me that they could whip out thousends of dollars to buy back albums just to infante the numbers without real profit. LMAO
They were a lot less popular in Korea than overseas, that's why it seemed ridiculous that the album could sell more than well known domestically korean act.
And that's why they were accused of sajaegi.

The Kpop groups do "promotions" when they release a new song and this means often *daily* appearances on the many music shows that Korea has. It's not unlike a popular act doing the performing rounds at all the big TV talk shows in the US, when promoting a new song. The Korean music shows have awards to the top songs/acts of the week (ie: 6 different shows, for 6 days, 6 possible awards - and this can continue for weeks if the songs are popular enough, though the bands don't go to the shows every day after the first 7-10 days of promotions)

Yes, I think 'You've worked hard' is a version of 'good job'. Someone explained that after the war the Koreans were so poor that the whole country (top - down) they decided to work their buts off, and they did so (turned their economy around in what, 50 years?) it became such an ingrained attitude to 'work hard' that it's used today but in a slightly different context. At least this is to my understanding of the whole thing. Army can correct if not.

I love MCA's realization of " You worked hard" & "Good job" being the same.
    That's so cool.
To me it seems impossible that BTS committed chart manipulation because it just doesn't seem like something they of Bang PD would do, you can't fake hard work, talent, amazing performances and great music. The PROOF is all there. Plus BIG HIT was too poor to even afford to buy enough albums or pay off enough people to accomplish it when they started.

I've missed this! IMO I think the "you've worked hard" = "thank you for your effort/time/help" kinda comments but the basic idea gets across either way. We see all those shenanigans in the music industry now. Army is still being accused of manipulating the charts , because apparently we are "bots". Whatever, we know that there are millions of armys world wide. BTS sells out every tour no matter how many shows are offered where a lot of artist have trouble selling out 2 nights. 8 nights of sold out stadiums filled with international fans, if that doesn't tell you something, you are not paying attention LOL! Army does have one thing that I think really stands out though, we do our research. Even now that the William board has changed it's rules, there are a lot of army doing the research on how to most effectively and effeciently chart the next title song the Tannies release. That is something I think set army apart from a lot of other fandoms.

Suga does and physical album review. That is cool.
Good job is a good way to think of u worked hard. It is a end of work day phrase that seem to be common in Asian countries. Now fighting is interpreted good job and should be said as u can do it. More of a encouragement I'm praying for u. I'm with u.
The chart manipulation thing follows BTS because no-one can believe they were and are still as popular as they are. One thing that BTS did or I should say is what PD nim did was to promote BTS abroad. he did not think the concepts would be popular in korea. At first Bts was not that popular in Korea but very popular elsewhere which showed in album sales outside of korea. There first full concert was in Japan before they did it in korea. Rise of Bang tan shows the number of fans in the corners. Anyway that is how they start winning music shows because of albums sales and stuff outside korea. Big hit as a company back the only had BTS as it's group. And they did not have a bunch of money. During the previous album The members were making money by cleaning hotel rooms in the USA. They did anything to make as money. So when they beat Exid it was crazy that a small company with only one act could beat a group from the big 3. That is how chart manipulation can up because no-one would have believed it could happen. Now HYBE is so big they were trying to buy SM last year

  • @dasadasa8687
    @dasadasa8687 2 года назад +1

Accusing BTS of doing chart manipulations is ridiculous cuz their company literally didn’t have enough money to keep the company running. What happened was BTS engaged with their fans more than how other artists did not in a traditional way. They took to social media or in their terms SNS, somehow managed to get a lot of global reach than other artists. That’s how they won. But since other kpop groups/public haven’t seen this kind of approach before they started accusing them. Usually people resist any kind of change, doesn’t try to understand it first because it’s far from what they are used to and know, that’s the nature right. (By change I mean in this case the new technology/social media based approach to reaching fans). I think that’s what happened with them.

Yes the music shows maybe weekly but....there are a lot of shows that are weekly. And to be popular u need to be on EVERY show. Which turns out to be daily . so that do live performances daily for two may three weeks. Suga said that it is to much to do to artist/ Idols.

Chart manipulation during that time was not possible for BTS because bighit was going bankrupt and had no funds to manipulate the charts.

The wins were an especially big deal bc they were up against BIG name groups. Exid, EXO, big bang? Those were the biggest groups of that time. The most popular boy group at that time was EXO. The backlash from EXO-Ls after BTS got their first win against them was insane. Many of the sajaegi accusations were found to be made by EXO-Ls.
That is not to say all EXO-Ls of course, only very few of them, but any big fandom has a few crazy bad nuts in it, and ARMY is certainly no exception. Fanwara btw EXO-Ls and ARMYs were pretty common back then, BC ARMY was trying desperately to protect BTS from the accusations. They had gotten hate for even having the same hair colour as exo members, or copying school concepts (which is ridiculous, BC nearly every group to date has done some sort of school concept). The sajaegi thing is also ridiculous, BC Bighit didn't even have that sort of money back then. The person "beating up" jk in the run MV was their manager, BC they couldn't afford actors.
