I so get this. I hope he can get to the point of self introspection. He's been loving, he's been protective, he's tried to point out where I am screwing myself over... he's also been toxic. I've been toxic back at times. We have a deeper kind of connection but he is a broken and severely emotionally damaged man who doesn't allow himself to form deep emotional and intimate connections. He's shared things with me, opened up - but he hasn't yet seen or acknowledged on a deeper level, his own hurtful actions and treatment of me that have caused so much damage between us, and brought out reactions from me which hurt me. I have major trust issues regarding my heart with this man. I have loved him unconditionally for a long time, truly wanted to empower him and help him wake up to himself so that he can become self aware and do the work on himself from within. So many times, I have tried to walk away to save myself - I get close but then get drawn back in. We've both lied to each other. I pray he will soon hear me - take it on board, reflect and find the way as well as commit to doing his part - we both have a special love for each other where we just can't seem to give up on each other. But I often feel I need to walk away because it has damaged me. I know he never chose to have a romantic relationship with me because he feels deep down that he doesn't deserve me, that he can't give me what I deserve - that he's too broken and might break me too.
