Hey, kids! I am very proud to announce the release of two new albums: “Tony Cultreri ~ On Betrayal”. Pure instrumental music, straight from my heart. A guitar-driven, intense, and emotional journey. And “Tony Cultreri & Brian Lynch ~ These Different Machines (Deluxe Edition)”. Essential songs, powerful lyrics, and passionate playing. The Great Ride's starting now! Visit tonycultreri.bandcamp.com for high-def digital downloads. They're also available to download on iTunes, and all other usual locations. Now streaming everywhere finer records and tapes are streamed. Your support is needed and very much appreciated! ❤🎸🤘😎 ~ Two tutorial footnotes: 1. On the vamp described at 4:23, I show the third finger on the G string, playing A/B/A. Bill sometimes plays it with the third finger on the D string, playing E/F#/E.~ 2. On the walk down described at 5:18 I show the first D chord in open position. Bill sometimes fingers this D chord as follows: D (3rd finger on 5th fret of A sting) F# (2nd finger on 4th fret of D string) A (1st finger on 2nd fret of G string). ~ Subscribe if you’d like, and please remember to “like” this video, as that helps it show up in search results. Thank you, and enjoy! 🎸
Harry, your uncle was using his long neck, red bass when I first saw him backing Bill in ‘The Duke’, Nelsonica 02. Obviously his musical talents are much appreciated by Mr Nelson over many years.
Anyone who covers Bill Nelson gets a like from me but I especially like your analysis Tony, it really explains the context which most YT instructors miss. I’ll be able to play this song after loving it for 42 years 🙏
Be Bop Deluxe never got their due. I’m doing my best to spread the word. This tutorial has 11,838 views and counting, and (dare I say it?) only one ‘thumbs down’! That’s Bill’s brilliance...
Bill should of been a mega star up there with. Thin lizzy stones etc think it was his constant changing band members and different genres that stopped that from happening. But he s great n luv red noise. He seemed to go from glam rock to prog to new wave now to ambience Would luv to hear bill play the blues
AWE TONY WELL DONE 😂 BE BOP DELUXE WERE UP THERE WITH ALL THE GREATS,,,, ROBIN TOWER CREAM LIZZY ZEPPLIN HENDRIX AND SRV JEFF BECK DANNY GATTON,,, YEAH BILL NELSON BRILLIANT ❤ XX
Absolutely spot onTony. Being a massive fan of Be Bop and Bill Nelson I really really appreciated this. Would be great to see how No Trains to Heaven is done but a massive undertaking there I guess
@@UncleTonyGuitar thanks so much, I will go and search your album when I get back from holidays. Really appreciate what you have done with these tutorials. Thanks also for the reply, I love content creators like you who break things down so well. Wishing you all the best and lots of success.
Tony WOW found you though your Rutles video (saw it when it can out in77) and Bill Nelson who I have met a couple of times 40 odd years ago a very underrated guitarist and a fellow Yorkshireman. Thank you Tony
Lots of chords going on and lead work together very well put together, certainly more to this song than l thought, as a 66 year old l don’t need to tell how long I’ve been into Bill Nelson, ❤️🎸❤️🎸
This made my day 👍 Clear, easy to follow, and I love the fact you’ve taken it from one of his more recent performances. You Sir are a Gentleman yourself 😊 Best wishes from the UK
Lovely job Tone..... I saw Be Bop a few times as a kid, Bill was a local lad. I always played the pre verse riff as D/A a la intro chords to Alright Now by Free. 🇬🇧 love from UK 😊
Brilliant thanks. One of my favourite records ever and always wanted to know how to play it. I’ll practice for the next 5 years and let you know how I’m getting on. I guess I should follow you 👍
good to see your still doin' your thing Tony ... you used to come into Old Venice in Manhattan Beach where I worked and we would chat about music of course
Absolutely spot on, Uncle Tony! I've been into Be-bop from the start and saw them several times live in the 70s. I've even got the Eastwood Bill Nelson Astroluxe Cadet guitar. You have really nailed it but now I've got to unlearn 40 years of playing this wrong! (I also do the A riff with the F#, A, D as it seems to be a favourite of Bill's, especially in Beauty Secrets verses. It even sounds like he does it on Panic in the World when the A riff builds near the end, an F# note sounds right) Great video my friend.
I really liked this tutorial Tony. I'll be practicing this today! Lots of instructors on RUclips, but I think you are the first I'm subscribing to. Any guitar teacher who knows and appreciates Bill Nelson is OK in my book.
thanks Tony that was great. I have always thought Nelson was the best English guitarist (saying something, I know), but he is a true original and his solos do'nt sound like anyone else. if you fancy doing adventures in a yorkshire landscape to help me get through that solo, i would be really greateful.
Superb mate,,,ive been playing the outro riff wrong for years !! I met Bill few years back at an anniversary toir gig and he signed the White Hoyer guitar used on the Axe Victum album which i owned for year's,, its fantastc that Bee bop Deluxe,,s music is alive across the pond,,loved your video,Cheers George from Scotland
@@UncleTonyGuitar Bill Nelson, Mick Robson,,? Were cut from the same cloth! I haven't been in the States since I had a deal with RCA in NYC during the late eighties with my band " Shine,", I hope to go back with the missus in a year or so,, good luck with the channel all the best. George.
Hi Tony, thanks for this, I really enjoyed it! At 12:20 when you describe that vamp on the A chord --you describe it as B-D to A-C#. I hear that as F#-A-D to E-A-C#, which has a fuller sound, and it looks to me from the Rocketeers concert vid that's what Bill is playing. best wishes!
@@tobyhoward4979 So if I’m understanding, we’re doing everything the same, except you're vamping a whole step with your third finger on the D string, and I’m vamping a whole step with my third finger on the G string, correct? If so, upon inspection, yes, you are correct that Bill plays it that way after the middle 8. After the intro solo Bill doesn’t play that vamp, and the rhythm guitarist seems (to my ears) to play it as you describe the 1st time, and then as I describe the 2nd time, or perhaps all three notes, as I definitely hear the 2nd there. Whew! You've got good ears, mate! I added a couple of addendums, above...
