I'm glad you brought up the Steve Smith part of the situation. Everyone I see fully defending kanye don't realize he isn't the sole designer of the yeezy shoes. For some yeezy models there are entire teams of designers who go from idea to concept to final product. Yes, kanye puts creative input and helps choose the final product but ultimately the designers are the ones contributing much more than he his. Anyone defending him saying that adidas is ripping off "his designs" aren't looking at the full picture. Even some models like the 750 (which I see people say was all kanye's idea) have people like Jerry Lorenzo on the design team, of course the models will turn out good. Overall I don't feel bad for the adidas execs or kanye at all, just the designers who aren't even credited. They're the ones who created the yeezy brand at both Nike and adidas
Ive wore Adidas since 1986. No other shoe brand period. Saying that I wouldn't and haven't put Yeezy on my feet. The day he and Adidas part ways will be a positive for me.
I also prefer Adidas products. I have a some sort of an Ultraboost collection and other boost shoes like Y3s and Hu but I have never owned a Yeezy shoe ever. Even so, I would still prefer Kanye and Adidas's relationship gets better since it made both of them successful.

I love the 350V2 Slate. I wear mostly black Jeans and they add some colour, yet the black stripe goes so well with my fits. I feel like his clothing line wasn't doing that well because he did not design for his target audience while the Adidas Collabs worked really well for his target audience, yet was still worn by people who were not much into fashion. Just look at the Crepe boots - they were really hard to style for basically anyone who wasn't wearing Yeezy head to toe.

So the barrier to entry is a lot lower. Like you might buy some SLP boots, like the look and add a piece here and their to your wardrobe further down the line - but it is not like you have to spend a couple racks just to get an entire look because they piece you want to buy doesn't work with other stuff.

As far as adidas capitalizing on kanyes success by designing readily available, mainline products goes, I think that’s to be expected... when it comes to releasing shoes that have his name directly attached to them in a colorway, on a date, or at a location he didn’t approve that’s absolutely unacceptable and reason for outrage. (coming from a fellow designer)

Yes there is collaboration in all industries, but if the vision of the original creator isn't being realized, moreover if Adidas is taking liberties and overstepping by introducing their own designs under his brand name you should be outraged. Kanye's views on the world as you put it has nothing to do with a creative battle, and again this partnership has been fruitful for both parties. The vibe I get is that Adidas wants to move in more aggressive directions and have grown frustrated with Kanye's push back. There are a lot of „ifs“ in your theory, cause tbh, no one except the people involved know what was agreed upon in those contracts. Kanye always liked throwing a tantrum for no reason, so I wouldn’t be surprised when we find out he is mad, because Adidas didn’t breach any contract. In addition, Adidas didn’t create any knock offs. The Foam Q is based on an early 2000 Adidas sneaker that uses a foam similar to the Yeezy foam runner, but that’s it. Dnd the Adilette 22 is just a slide. Don‘t act as if Kanye invented those, because he made a plain one out of foam. Booth have similarities, I’ll give you that, but they are still very different. That‘s like complaining that the Yeezy 350 is a copy of the Ultraboost, because they both use boost and have PK uppers. P.s. Kanye should get off his high horse, it‘s not like he never actually stole designs from other brands (350 V1 vs. Roshe, or the Reebok Club C design that he used for some Yeezy.) Well thats on Adidas to find solutions, not create knockoffs and burn bridges with the one who brought this lifeline to them. Some things are bigger than shoes.
There are a lot of „ifs“ in your theory, cause tbh, no one except the people involved know what was agreed upon in those contracts. Kanye always liked throwing a tantrum for no reason, so I wouldn’t be surprised when we find out he is mad, because Adidas didn’t breach any contract. In addition, Adidas didn’t create any knock offs. The Foam Q is based on an early 2000 Adidas sneaker that uses a foam similar to the Yeezy foam runner, but that’s it. Dnd the Adilette 22 is just a slide. Don‘t act as if Kanye invented those, because he made a plain one out of foam. Booth have similarities, I’ll give you that, but they are still very different. That‘s like complaining that the Yeezy 350 is a copy of the Ultraboost, because they both use boost and have PK uppers.
P.s. Kanye should get off his high horse, it‘s not like he never actually stole designs from other brands (350 V1 vs. Roshe, or the Reebok Club C design that he used for some Yeezy.)

I’m not a Kanye fan but I do like Yeezys. Kanye at this point is just a hypocrite. He stated he wants to make Yeezys more attainable to his fans but won’t actually make any efforts to. I hope Adidas keeps pumping them out
