He puts out so many also. I wouldn't be surprised if he is some sort of AI/human lab creation. How else could anyone put out so many amazing books. It's not natural
I saw your review pop up in my notifications, but I initially skipped it because I had just started the audiobook. Now that I've finished it, I'm enjoying your video not because I need you to recommend it to me, but I wanted to see someone as excited about having read such a good book as I feel. The book sections in the story were fascinating and even got me to check out The Library of Babel. The part about Hostile Architecture really really struck me deeply because I used to live in Seattle, where Ballard City Council would rather place massive boulders on the sidewalk than give any comfort or decency to the unhoused. This is the kind of sci-fi that I can't stop thinking about and I love it.
How have I been on booktube for years and never stumbled across your channel until now!? I listened to the audiobook (read by Tchaikovsky himself!) and I cannot recommend that experience enough!!
I'm probably going to finish "Lords of Uncreation" tonight, and I just ordered "Service Model". I'm glad the YT algorithm recommended your channel. Subscribed, and thank you!
I think the number one thing that BLOWS ME AWAY about Adrian Tchaikovsky is his ability to write other truly alien sentient minds. He has taken a solid understanding of biology, and especially the history of life, to imagine how a spider, a corvid, a crab, or a clam would think and behave. And now a robot. There are a few other authors that make headway in this direction, but the minds so often end up feeling like ordinary human minds, just with a bit of different affect and culture sprinkled on top (which can be brilliant itself, a la the likes of Becky Chambers and Anne Leckie). But Tchaikovsky makes the alien feel alien, and in so doing he is able to ask DEEP questions about what it means to be sentient. And yeah, Service Model was a Tour De Force. It was probably his funniest book, but also one of his bleakest. Maybe it's my own personal kind of humor, but the scenes with the farm administrator had my wife worried for me, because I was cackling so much.
Incrdible author, have read many of his books. I'll admit this one has been one of my fall asleep books so came here for an overrview for points i may have missed. I enjoyed your description and overall take of this book many thanks! Annnnd i will now shamelessly start this book again but whilst in my waking hours xD hope you have a lovely day!
This sounds incredible. The idea of using different author styles is so interesting. I'm currently reading Children of Memory and I think I need to see if my library has this because I need to read more Tchaikovsky. If they don't at least I've got a copy of Shards of Earth to jump into
This sounds really good 👀 I just placed a hold for it with the library. It's gonna be my first time reading something by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Thanks Willow, you're great. xxxx
Placed this one on hold at my library! Thank you for sharing your passion 🤍 Benches that are not benches are exhausting for me. Not only politically but because I have an invisible illness and when I’m having a bad day, I need to sit down desperately and these bloody leaning things at a train station do not provide me with what I need, so I have to sit on the ground and the stares are great because I’m a white woman in my 30s and you can tell people are like ‘what tf?!” as they don’t expect it from me. Like yeah stuff hostile architecture
saw this book on my library's recents shelf and thought it sounded up my alley. read 100 pages before bed and WOW is it a fun read so far. cant wait to see where it goes from here
Tchaikovsky is SOOoo underrated!! I have read 6 and half of his books so far and looved most of them (and even the one I didn't necessarily loved was just amazing!). I wish he would get way more attention here on RUclips, I am so thankful to you Willow that you talk about his books! My favorite so far are Guns of the Dawn, Cage of Souls and City of last chances. But Elder race, Made things and Dogs of war are amazing!! Currently reading Alien Clay and awaiting for Service model 😍❤️
a robot poirot sounds great considering he feels robotic already the way he is written so you have sold me a book I would never have found by myself again: thank you for your brilliant work, willow.💡
This book has no reason to be this funny, I'm only halfway through and I've been almost crying with laughter lol. The archive joke had I think the best setup of any joke I've seen in a book lol Also as an ADHD / autistic person I very very much love Uncharles. Like his internal conflicts between wanting routine and order and to just serve a human until the end of time plus his other impulses are something I very much relate to lol. Also just his passive suicidality was HILARIOUS. I love that he was basically like "hmm this is too much, being turned off for eternity sounds okay" in a completely matter-of-fact way.
Sounds intriguing, I have just read a book in a world without humans, Sea of Rust. A Poirot AI sounds fun, in the Blink of an Eye is a police procedural where a cop is paired with an AI partner, which is fun.
Thank you for the review. Quick question, you say that Tchaikovsky talks about his politicals ideals or ideas on his book. One of the things i dislike is writers that impose their values and almost judges the readers. Does his writing feel like that or does he put ideas and let you decide if you concur or not? Thank you
That’s kind of a nebulous thing, depending on your own disposition. For example, if you consider the inclusion of a gay or trans character to be the author “shoving it down our throats” then you won’t enjoy this. I dunno, babe, every artist has their political motivations; all art is political by its definition, so I’m not really sure what to tell you, sorry 🤷🏻♀️
@@WillowTalksBooks thank your for your answer. I mean I enjoy when the writer makes in a way "you decide". When it feels like a imposition, even in themes/points of view, I agree , I usually dont enjoy.. thank you again. Have a great day
Very excited to read this one! Currently reading The Doors of Eden by him (about halfway through), not my favourite but tons of fantastic ideas. CW for a lot of transphobia in the novel though, the villains are basically evil Tories lol
100% of the people who are homeless in California because they can not afford a home there is not capitalism, it is government interference. They are the ones limiting the number of homes and where. It always astonishes me when people blame capitalism for something caused directly by government interference. The mentally ill homeless simply can not be kept against their will, they are usually offered a mental health facility but unless they are a danger to others they can not be kept against their will. The architecture thing I agree with 100% and again that is all government, there is no hostile architecture without government.
Adrian Tchaikovsky might be the GOAT. At least the greatest sci fi writer at the moment. I've no idea how he writes so much with such high quality.
Ditto
He puts out so many also. I wouldn't be surprised if he is some sort of AI/human lab creation. How else could anyone put out so many amazing books. It's not natural
I can not keep up its insane. Not and read all the other authors I want to read anyway.

I had come across the description of this book several times, but the blurb didn’t really sell me on it….so glad I came across your review.

Insightful review 👍
You are one of the few book reviewers that gets this book.
Ooh looks good! I've been meaning to read a bit more SF and this looks perfect!
I've had Children of Time on my shelf, unread, for a while now. You're making me want to put everything else aside and read it now!
I have both read Children of Time and listened on audible. Absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend the audible edition. I was completely lost in it.
same. I've been eyeing it for a few months now.

I’m glad you enjoyed this book. It is wonderful to see people gush about books.
I need to read this book. It sounds absolutely genius.
I always get so excited when you post a new video 😃😃

Thank you for letting us know when spoilers are coming. ❤
Hi Willow! Service Model sounds just like what I need! Thank you! 😀
I'm also readding his Cage of Souls, which is similar to Alien Clay.
I had to stop a few minutes in to avoid any more surprises. SOLD! I'm in.
Me too!
This sounds like so much fun!
Wow! What a review! I'llbe definitely reading. If you didn't spoil Piranesi, I have full confidence you'll never spoil a story.
Thanks!!! ❤
Murderbot Diaries is a tough act to follow but I’m excited to try this book!
Thanks for the recommendation

Famously, government and capitalism exist as entirely separate entities 🙄 You might want to read Caliban and the Witch, babe.
Woke garbage...hard pass
He liked his own little comment 😭
homelessness is a design feature of capitalism ...that sentence ...wow
Yup
