From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II. This time, the fan favourite champions-now joined by Johnny Cage himself-are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow up to his explosive 2021 cinematic adventure, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the videogame created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater and Lawrence Kasanoff.
Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.
The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, only in theatres and IMAX® across North America on May 8, 2026.

A legendary character actor.
In 1993, I attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, and I made a beeline straight for the Mortal Kombat booth. It was easily one of the most elaborate setups in all of McCormick Place - loud, electric, and packed with people.
I jumped into line for a one-on-one tournament, where winners would advance for a chance to meet the actual actors who were used for the game’s motion capture. While we waited, they debuted a brand-new Mortal Kombat commercial on the screens overhead - a chaotic, high-energy spot set in a cityscape, with kids running everywhere and one kid repeatedly screaming, “Mortal Kombat!”
It instantly burned itself into my memory.
I won my match.
That victory earned me access behind the booth, where I got to meet Kano, Johnny Cage, Sonya, Scorpion/Sub-Zero, and Lord Raiden - my favorite. I still have Polaroids with each of them.
It was surreal, unforgettable, and absolutely one of those moments you know, even while it’s happening, will stay with you forever.

@hadryantar yup the movies was supposed to come out October 24th. But they pushed it to May 2026 because they want a summer Blockbuster. They want to compete with summer movies, when they had a good spot available and a finished movie ready to go. Hopefully this doesn't backfire as I do want to see the pt 3 they have planned.

I was skeptical of Karl Urban being cast as Johnny Cage because I had pictured the character as a "Glen Powell" type, so to speak. I love the direction of Johnny Cage being an out of work actor. I feel like it's relevant to its audience who feel like they've grown up with the series. Karl Urban delivers always! Looking forward to this one!

Johnny as lead rather than Liu.
They decided didn't want a white saviour as lead so cast Lewis Tan in the role as JC.
Then decided the fans would have a melt down over changing Johnny's ethnicity so made him Cole.
I can't give you a source for any of that other than if you watch the first movie there are soooo many hints & nods to the fact, even with reshoots that Cole was originally meant to be Johnny Cage.

hyped for this sequel. Some observations I made, When Raiden says "you're johnny cage." it looks like he's grinning as if a fan. Also when Johnny says "it's showtime" they ruined the perfect chance to say, "let's dance."
