During the Second World War, Underground Headquarters or UGHQ, the communications "nerve centre" for Operation Overlord, was in a secret network of tunnels excavated between February and December 1942 by 172 Tunnelling Company of the Royal Engineers 100 ft (30 m) underneath Fort Southwick, well out of reach of any bombs of the era. The call sign of this base was 'MIN'.

If I could I would take slot of the electric stuff like the light switches and convert them over to my house for a nostalgic feeling.

We did a ghost hunt in there it’s amazing in there and kept well they are finding new tunnels and digging them out. Heard some amazing things down there that can not be explained in the D-day tunnels in Portsmouth.

Going by the info sheet Chris is holding it is a big complex and must have taken quite some time to dig let alone build everything into it.

Fascinating that when all these type of tunnels were in use complex forced air ventilation was used, but now apparently not necessary. Probably because there would have been quite a few people working in there?
