How to insert a BIGGER fitting into a smaller hose or tube. No heat gun or hair dryer needed!!

- To connect my reinforced vinyl potable water hose (tubing) to a city water hook up, I need to use a garden hose adapter (GHT). The problem is the adapter has a 1/2" barb, and my tubing ID is 3/8".
This procedure is very simple, and better than using a hair dryer or heat gun. If you do this, please don't forget to install a hose clamp.
You might have just saved me yet another trip to the hardware store!
I hope so! My hose connection is still holding up well :)
Two years after and still useful
Three camping trips, and still good here too!
I'm about to try something similar to this. I'll be slipping 5/8 id nylon vinyl tubing over an 11/16 pipe. For the plumbers reading this, yes I said 11/16 pipe. Apparently my house was one of the lucky ones to get 11/16 pipe made by a company called Westinghouse. It was made in the 80's and 90's, but discontinued. Now it's obsolete so no one makes fittings for it.
Hope it works!
@@doitstepbystep3376 worked like a charm. My Frankenstein toilet water connection goes 11/16 pipe > 5/8 id vinyl hose > 5/8 barb to 1/2 female thread > 1/2 toilet shutoff valve. Next step is to conceal it. I'm thinking 2" pvc slipped over the whole thing with an escutcheon on top.
@@jeffsguitarwork Awesome!
You just saved me about $13! Thanks!!
Awesome! I'm glad this helped =)
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome Tip!
Thank you!
This saved me a trip to Home Depot to find a tool to make the tubing fit the drain out of my portable AC. Thanks!
You're welcome! I'm glad you found this video helpful.
Aww thank you so much was losing my mind after thinking I had to throw away the smaller gauge hose . Now useful again!!
Glad this video is helpful!
Wow! Wish I saw this before I went crazy looking for the right size fitting lol
Oh well. Now you know for your next project!
This saved me from buying a heat gun. Thanks!
You're welcome ! Glad it helped.
Absolutely genius!
Thank you!
Thanks! Going to try this. Fixing plumbing in my home on wheels. Not microwave but can heat some water. Just got a tiny space to work in.
You're welcome! Good luck my friend on your repair.
Awesome tip! Thanks!
@@shindenn2390 you are welcome 👍
Thank you so much! This saved me lol.
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you!
Than you bro, great technique.
Thanks! Hope it helps!
I need to try this
This works amazing but I would only add heating up the water for at least 2 minute as 90 seconds didn't work for me .
Winning 🎉 thanks
You're welcome!
Thank you!
You're welcome! :)
U sir are a problem solver
Just a dude sharing things that I've figured out, and hopefully will help others...
Pretty cool idea. However, could you just use a hair dryer to soften up the rubber hose and skip the microwave, cup&water?
Hi. You can use a hair dryer if you want too. I dipped the hose in hot water to evenly heat up the material so not to risk uneven heating or over heating. One commenter noted that there could be mold or mildew on the fitting if you use the method in the video. My fitting is still working great, with no mold or mildew issues.
❤
Will the GHT with 1/2" barb fit a 1/2" ID flex hose?
I would think so, and secured with the appropriate hose clamp.
Do these hose adapters come in different sizes? The pressure sprayer I got has a hose that is much smaller. Thanks.
I would think so. I had to go to a local hardware store, like Ace or Tractor Supply to find the adapter I needed.
@@doitstepbystep3376 Thanks. I'll have a look around.
Except now moisture inside (hose) and rigid pipe is both wetted, so mold- moisture cannot escape, this creates slime from the mold.
Does it work with a rubber hose
Unless your rubber hose is reinforced, I think it would be difficult to use this technique on a rubber hose. The vinyl hose I used was reinforced and ridge enough to not flop over when I started to push the fitting into it.
now... hoe do we get a bigger hose to fit INSIDE. a smallet hole. i.e. shrink the hose a bit.
In that scenario, true hose adapter is probably the best solution.
Does that work on pex pipe as well?
I'm not sure. I haven't tried pex before, but from what I understand, it is more ridged pipe and may require more heat than the microwaved water I used in this video.
Does it work with a rubber tube?
I have not tried a rubber tube. If you cannot find the correct size, it might be worth it for you to try.
@@doitstepbystep3376 it worked💯
Rock on @@jlovee2211 ! That's good to know!
Fantastic tip, thanks.
