Great reaction. I just recently heard this song and decided to do a deep dive. From what I have seen the drummer is supposed to be a yakuza, the bassist is supposed to be a demon monk and the singer is supposed to be a scholar from the Meiji era. They have been around since 1987 and if you see some older concerts the bassist has long hair and does a lot of the singing. If you want to see the guitarists talent with a theremin I would suggest At The Mountains of Madness ruclips.net/video/DgTEKoYhAXg/видео.html. If you want to see the bassist with long hair I would suggest YuuRei ResSha (ghost train) ruclips.net/video/3l8sNAWwa-8/видео.html. If you have about 40 minutes and want to see them from 1991 I would suggest ruclips.net/video/jMfxLEqiJ3w/видео.html. There is a lot from them to pick from.
The song is strongly auto-biographical. They played doom metal for about 35 years, published more than 20 records, but never had commercial success, never toured outside Japan, never could make a living off their music, always remained more or less unknown. Only the Japanese fräulein wonder with bands such a Baby Metal, Band Maid, Nemophila, etc. in combination with YT's search algorithm made them known worldwide. In 2021, at the age of 57 years, they made their first tour overseas, to Germany and England.
Namahage, Toshishun and The Colour out of Space. This band has been around for some time. Drummer is hipster, bassist is angel of death, lead is a philosopher. Something like that. Name of band is after the Human Chair story, kind of creapy. Band is talented and lyrics are deep. Not even from Japan and think these are one of the best contemporary bands that are peaking late in their career.
I really like this band. I started watching some of their older videos all the way back to 1987. Then they just kind of normal jeans and shirts. But I do like their look now and I think the white face paint is a death mask or something like that I could be wrong though
I have probably scoured the web and looked at maybe around 2 dozen reaction videos to this and FINALLY, I found someone who thought to turn on the subtitles and react to the lyrics. Thanks. Also, you should react to Namahage next, great song with the bassist singing lots. Or you could react to their hit song from the newest album, the song is called "Toshishun" ruclips.net/video/tKSjWKDSBmo/видео.html It would probably get the most views because of trends.
Neen-gahn Ees. Heard the guitar player say it in an interview. This band has existed for 3+ decades. Japan metal underground. Drummer has the Elvis thing going. The Bass player is a bow to Gene Simmons of Kiss.
Just paste the band name into google translate in Japanese mode and press the speaker.. is the easiest way to get the pronunciation. The "u" on the end of "isu" is often dropped or hard to hear like in "desu", though. Generally Japanese is extremely consistent and easy to pronounce
The bassist's white, clean-shaven head is a reference to Buddhists mortuary rites in pre-industrial Japan. White symbolises purity and clarity (as in the west). Through death the soul of the deceived leaves the body and becomes pure, immaculate, without sins. The soul, the spirit becomes a "kami" (cp. Baby Metal's "Kami Band"), a pilgrim to the underworld, the reign of the dead. At the same time shaving and whitening is seen as a post mortem baptism to become a Buddhist monk (cp. Ningen Isu's song "Baptism"). So, the guitarist, dressed as a teacher, a philosopher, symbolises wisdom. The bassist symbolises unspoiled karma and transcendence (cp. their song "Namahage") and the drummer, dressed as a Yakuza criminal, the temptations and evils of life on earth and the vanity to reach material profits. The members of Ningen Isu (pron."ningen is", the "g" like in guard, the final "u" in Isu is mute) are not only great musicians, but probably the Japanese band with the deepest roots in Japanese mystics, fairy tales, religion and traditions and literature.
If I remember right, the Drummer is a footman yakuza (gangster) from the past, the lead singer is a scholar from the 19th century, and the bassist is a monk of some kind.
I'm thinking the bassist at the moment, has the white make-up, it's based upon Kabuki theatre/plays. Someone's probably pointed that out already. Haha oh well.
I'm a fan of his band and really enjoyed the reaction. May I suggest a rock band from Korea? Jayoung has an amazing voice! I'd recommend their song, "Azalea".
Whats your problem? I am German and I don´t know "foreign" music, I only know music I like and music I don´t like. Ningen Isu is a fantastic band (and Valerie is one of the best reactors on YT).
I am judging/reacting, as is my right to do so... I could, of course, ehm un-react by simply un-subscribing. And like OMG I obviously mean foreign language songs on an English platform. Seriously no German/foreign music platforms out there? Mina aikona ka lol Fanagalo, hau!!!
Thanks for reviewing Ningen Isu! These guys are fantastic, Love them! "Heartless Scat" is a masterpiece! 👍

Wow, thank you! I'm going to check it out!
Namahage would be a good next track, it features vocals from both the guitarist and bassist
They are from Hirosaki, Japan and formed in 1987. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ningen_Isu

Oh and the day they shot this they said it was cold as snot.

The Japanese Black Sabbath has been used to describe them.
Ridiculous Concept - judging foreign music... Me no habla, verstehen sie???
And not judging, reacting, commenting ... listen again.
WTH? Music is music!!! This is a rock band. Und Ich verstehe Deutsch.
Ridiculous comment. There's no really 'foreign music' nowadays, and RUclips itself has no nationality, 私の意見では.
