Their Best stuff was NOT on the Radio. Kerry Livgren is one of THEE BEST Lyricists EVER. Phil's Drumming is painfully under appreciated. LOVE LOVE LOVE Kansas
I wasn't there, but my cousin went to Queen w/ Kansas opening for them. He said in his opinion Kansas blew Queen away that night. I don't think he said it to be mean, it was just his honest opinion, because he loved Queen too.
Back in the 70s I sent Phil Ehart a pair of drum sticks to sign which he did and sent them back to me. I wrote that I like the music but I’m not good enough to play along with him. He wrote back that I should keep on playing which I did and ended up playing in some bands myself. Thanks Phil.
@@michaelsprindis6149 I had the pleasure of meeting Robby in Nazareth, PA in 2002. He was so nice and offered me tickets to their shows in Camden, NJ and Reading, PA. I chose Reading and the tickets were 3rd row center. There was an opening act (Raymond the Amish Comedian). At intermission Robby's manager came up to me and asked how the tickets were. What a nice guy Robby was to have his manager see if everything was ok. RIP Robby, you were The Best!
RICH WILLIAMS there are damn few guitarists who play at your level,i've been going to your concerts for over 50 years, you and kerry dueling, brilliant,PHIL you are in the top 10 in the world on percussion, being humble doesn't change that,RONNIE thanks for taking the mic,KANSAS HAS NO EQUAL
Kansas ... IMHO. .the greatest American Band after the Eagles. Kansas played some of the most memorable music ever ..and the most iconic guitar song .Dust in the Wind
Its a rare day I don't listen to Kansas because....well.....what other band surpasses these guys in there genre? And pretty much every time I listen to them i always think the same thing...Holy shit what a band. Being a drummer I stole alot of his fills and he's still my favorite rock drummer.
As a huge Steve Walsh fan, I saw it impossible to replace him & although that may be the case, John Elefante is as close as you can get and arguably in some ways, he was better dependent on your perspective
Tom was the blonde singing with Stevie and the guy playing the guitar solos was mike Campbell who co-wrote the song. The two female backup singers Lori perry (who ultimately married Stevie’s brother), and Sharon Celani basically sang on every song Stevie ever did outside of Fleetwood Mac in her entire career
What really counts is not the name of a band, weather it is Kansas,Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones or even the Beatles. What really counts is the music. When a band releases pieces like Dust in the Wind,Carry On Wayward Sun or Point of No Return, they can call themselves Dummies,Brownies or even Milk Thooties. I would buy the music. Or is there anyone who is buying albums just because the name of a band sounds good ?!
Neither have I. When Steve Walsh sang live in his day, people turned their heads and their jaw dropped. It was like a force. A wall coming at you. You just could believe that was coming from that guy.
Kansas... this band deserves more recognition and respect..the greatest prog band from America...
Kansas is one of America’s treasures! To hell with the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame, they deserve to be in the Smithsonian😊
Their Best stuff was NOT on the Radio.

Kerry Livgren was also (and is still) a terrific guitar player.
Well, Phil, in my unqualified, but honest opinion, you DID kick every other band's ass. And, you did it convincingly!
And to correct Richard, they did have the best singer.
I wasn't there, but my cousin went to Queen w/ Kansas opening for them. He said in his opinion Kansas blew Queen away that night. I don't think he said it to be mean, it was just his honest opinion, because he loved Queen too.
Kansas was objectively better than any of their peers.
Exactly.@@stevebennett987

Name of the band youre in?
A Band that Deserves more than it had received. Great Song writing and musicians
They are famous everywhere and not only for their hit songs but for their prog songs too! I'm from Venezuela!
Robby" Steinhardt recent passing :( His stage presence and energy was so inspiring.
They barely mentioned him in this interview!!

And they are still great. Some of the greatest rock music ever written. Fantastic live as well. Saw them recently. Unreal.
BEST American rock band, EVER!
No question

Kerry livegren was a genius
Still is!

Great band. guys that could really play their instruments.
Love Kansas! Still have my albums and when they came out I played them over & over! Fantastic band!!
Kansas musical geniuses! 💯👏🎶⚡❤️💕

But I'm also a Mid Westerner...so I might be buas to them Styx and Chicago

Three gentlemen and musical heroes of mine!
Ronnie Platt is a hero of yours? 🤨
Ronnie who?

*Legendary band man*
Total Class acts

Sadly, (a sigh 😕) look at what happened to The Little River Band when they didn't secure their name. Pretty tragic.
Not too many singers better than Steve
No doubt
Yeah Phil!
Success takes hard work, but in most cases is like getting struck by lightening.
They worked hard, and got a break. I think they’d have eventually made it without that break, though…

Hate to say it, but Rich, although just being humble, is wrong. I’ve never heard a better singer than Steve Walsh.
You've never heard Lou Gramm?
@@davel7791 - They’re both basically super-human. I love Lou, too!
I agree they're similar. There's something extra special about Steve.@@davel7791

Who TF wants to see Dan Rather interview a rock band?
He has interviewed A LOT of them on his show, but I agree there are definitely more knowledgeable hosts.
Um. Dan. that wasn't KANSAS. That was two dudes who used to be in KANSAS.
Rich and Phil are still in Kansas.
@@mike840621 I think you missed my point.
All this time and that dude still doesn't have a glass eye?
He stopped wearing one in the early 80s.
Kansas is better than Queen.
Brian May thought so.

It was incredibly foolish to sign away their publishing. Don K. Took advantage of them. A good music attorney would have benefited them.
Leftoverture nothing more to say
Dan Blather? 🤮 Really?
