Yo! Great job man, great story. You’ll make a great doctor for sure just because of your experiences. I have a similar/dissimilar story- mine involved having a good GPA and good MCAT but not enough clinical experience. I didn’t do a masters or anything like that, but have been working in the medical field for the past (almost) 2 years in a fairly independent job. My first cycle was similar to yours: 6 interviews MD/DO and no bites in the end. This year I got prematched and it was a great feeling.

    Hey Javi and others,
I'm a junior at Rutgers University and I am in a similar boat GPA wise and honestly have never been more confused in my life if I should even attempt to pursue Medschool due to my gpa. I know that medicine is my passion and that I could never end up doing anything else, and my countless hours during the pandemic as a 911 Emt has proven to myself that I want to continue to help people in need even more as a doctor one day. I'm used to having the odds stacked against me, and usually I end up overcoming the adversities. This circumstance is no different except that I don't know what I should do to overcome this barrier. My freshmen year I slacked off a lot partying getting distracted etc. with a 2.1 GPA, but I cleaned up my act and now my junior year first sem completed I'm at a 2.778. My school offers little to no guidance. I know that I can do it, but I just need a direction and path to follow. Any help would be appreciated :) .

Once you get into the masters, what the difference between applying to med school without the masters and with it considering without it one needs LORs, and to be able to account for work history? Hi Javi,
I understand if you do not respond back I know you probably get a lot of people asking to speak with you and I cannot imagine just how busy you must be. My name is Denton and I am a senior in college here in Texas. My fall semester of my freshman year in college I went through A LOT, and I went from being in the top 10% of my class having a 3.98 high school GPA to a. 2.1 freshman uGPA. My home of 20 years flooded just three days after I left for college and I was not able to go back to see my family for weeks (keep in mind this is the first time I have ever really stayed away from home for more than a few days) this sent me into a deep depression and unfortunately, my grades reflected this. I knew my parents and my three younger siblings were basically homeless while I was living in an amazing dorm room/apartment and this broke my heart. Spring semester rolls around and my girlfriend at the time, now my wife, told me she was pregnant with our baby girl. I have never in my life been more terrified than I was during this moment, I thought my life was over and that I would have to drop out of college. I worried for just over 5 months before we told our parents, I dont know how we hid it for that long, but we did. One night when I was driving back to college from a long weekend of working on my parents house, I was rear ended and my new car that I had just received as my graduation present was totaled. The very next week I got a job at a tech center working Monday-Saturday 2pm-11pm. These hours kind of screwed the amount of studying I should have been taking part in. However, after being put on academic probation because my GPA was under a 2.5, my dad sat me down and chewed me out, threatening to cut me off. If he wouldn't of done that I would most definitely be working in a chemical plant in SETX right now, rather than following my dream to become a physician. Since the end of my freshman year I have had an upward trend of 3.9 GPA (made one C when my house flooded for the second time around, words cannot describe how much I hate these hurricanes). I think one of the major reasons that I am exploiting this information is due to the fact that the main reason I want to become a physician is because of a therapist I went to during my highschool years for my depression and anxiety, she was amazing. I was just wondering if you could give me some tips on what would be appropriate to put into a personal statement regarding depression and anxiety and how schools look at reinvention and upward trends like mine.
Even if you don't reply I just wanted to say thank you for all the awesome content and advice.
    ~Denton F.
