  • The latest episode of Mandalorian season 3 proves that the Empire was right! The new republic was so set on demilitarizing that they forgot to actually keep the galaxy secure. We explain why.

Well, let me explain exactly why the new republic sucks. But first of all, I will say that maintaining an entire galactic government is really hard. Americans can;t even get our two parties to agree, could you imagine handling the wishes of trillions of trillions of people?
Teh high republic novels and comics detail how the Republic struggled to expand into the outer rim. They immediately face resistance from independent planets and vicious pirates called the Nihil. This is a big problem because, historically, the galactic republic did not maintain a military.
Doug: But then how do they maintain control of the bearcat? How do they keep the local systems in line?
Well, each planet has their own military force, like the naboo forces we saw in the phantom menace. But also, private companies like the trade federation also had their own private armies, like Blackwater mercenaries in real life.
Now what we have here is a recipe for constant galactic war. You could see planets have squabbles and disputes with one another and private planets conquering worlds because there is no strong military to enforce the peace.
And that’s why the jedi were integral to the structure of the republic. By the time of the clone wars, the jedi order basically became an extension of the republic, commanding armies and taking orders from the supreme chancellor.
I’m going to talk more about the lack of a jedi order a little later in the video, but for now I wanna talk about what the empire did right. Obviously, they were led by a demonic force that committed genocide and enslaved millions-but, the empre undesrtaood that-thought the Jedi-you need a strong military to enfocre galactic order.
The empire didn;t just prevent regional wars from erupting-they also caught space pirates, provided planetary security.
    Doug: Planetary oppression, you mena.
Yes, yes. Thor's tactics were horrible, but as I’ll explain in this video, they did prove that the new republic was doomed to fail.
And by the way Doug, you just reminded me…
    Doug: Oh boy..
We have a brand new doug shirt in our merch store where he looks like a child.
Doug: I am being exploited. I receive no-[cut him off]
If you would like to have your very own doug the foundling shirt, or a doug father tee, or this original trilogy tee shirt, check out the merch store at shop zero edition dot come. It helps our channel greatly, and we appreciate your continued support.
Support, by the way, is what the new republic failed to provide for their citizens. Whereas the empire at last tried to create a sense of galactic unity. Enlisting people from across the galaxy into the military helped people to feel like they were part of the same government. Like how the US was able to heal some of the wounds fomr the civil war when northern and southern troops fought together against Spain in the 1890s.
And the emperor also maintained power by selling this idea of safety and security [rots , safe and secure]. And we see how that message resonated 15 years later among the coruscant elite [emperor’s duty to keep us safe].
Again, the empire, clearly evil. But from this episode of the Mandalorian, we see that the new republic threw out some of what worked about the empire, and kept a lot of what didn;t work.
    New republic explained
So I will say, I was a big fan of the old expanded universe novels, which showed mon mothma and then leia becoming the leader of a prosperous new galactic government. But what we saw play out in the sequel trilogy is a lot more realistic and historically accurate. Revolutions rarely establish stable governments afterwards.
Doug: What about the United states?
Actually, after the American Revolution, the 13 colonies signed the Articles of Confederation, a loose agreement to help one another in case they were attacked. Each state had their own coin, trade laws, and there was no united government.
But they chose a decentralized government because they had just escaped the tyranny of the crown, so they did not want another king. This decentralized government failed-much like the confederate states of america, and it led to a stronger federal government established by the constitution.

They are stepping past the pew-pew and laser swords and getting into how complicated and messy that the whole thing would be. That’s really an expanded universe. This is probably the best video you've ever done. The sequels makes so much more sense now and Doug - who we all know is the brains behind this operation and Ryan is just eye candy for the chicks - said it best:
The sequels would have been a lot better if this stuff been explained in the moves but Abrams chose to remake ANH instead.

Honestly, it would've made much more sense for Disney to put out all these incredible shows *before* the sequel trilogy. so much groundwork is laid out here between the 3 shows that would have transitioned perfectly into the rise of the New Order in Ep 7. And taking their time building out the universe would have given them time to plan it and release an actually coherent and cohesive sequel trilogy. instead Disney hired JJ Abrams and forced that turd out the door a decade too soon.

I miss the old canon with a New Republic that actually had a pair of balls and were willing to enforce peace with a proper military, even unto the point of fighting their own mini-rebellion to stop the whole thing falling apart. Something similar happened in Legends. The New Republic wasn’t the most well organized. So after Cal Omas was elected chief of state, he took what he could of the New Republic, rewote the constitution, and made a new, more centralized government known as the Galatic Alliance. The GA would work close with Luke's Jedi Order. Afterwards, my favorite piece of poetry (Lucas's words about Star Wars) happens: Jacen Solo would be elected Chief Of State and become a sith lord to make a better galaxy for his daughter. Luke would take the order and work with a new rebellion to stop Jacen. Afterwards an imperial named Dalla (I hope I remember her name correctly) would become Chief of State and try to regulate the jedi as if they were a military branch instead of vigilantes. It didn't end well for her.

They can’t be everywhere. And they try to fill the gaps as best (or worst) as they can.
It’s also mentioned in the second season with the patrols in the outer rim. They can’t be everywhere and they look for every help they can get like recruiting Cara.
Unfortunately if you fail too often to be there when it matters people start loosing faith and look for alternatives like a new empire. It wasn’t that bad, right?!

The next step after Ep IX will be something like the Yuuzhan Vong War. If Ezra & Thrawn return from the Unknown Regions, they might be escaping a galactic size threat. When it arrives, systems will have to again choose sides. Forcing enemies into working together to fight the invaders.

The Grysk should be the next threat, and they aren’t exactly a Vong copy, but they are similar as a design threat, coming from the unknown region rather than from another galaxy altogether.
And a good trilogy it could be, and I would say a really good plot line for a trilogy is like this.
1st movie, lays the ground for the plot, introduces grysk but keeps them mysterious. Showcases the major characters.
2nd movie. Thrawn must secure a alliance with the new republic to defeat the grysk, but the new republic does not trust Thrawn.
3rd movie empire remants and republic finally team up for the final battle against the grysk. Due to the republic being not to putting enough resources in the military, you see the grysk dominating them. But at the final moments. The Vong arrive and destroy every grysk ship, as well as a majority of the republic and imperial ones. Only to have the imperial and republic leaders barely escaping.
This opens up the Vong trilogy and where the characters are already established, no need to have a movie on the empire remants and republic distrusting each, but a trilogy solely dedicating to the war and action against the Vong.

I'm hoping that there's not another Jedi-Mandalorian war. That would be such a cop out. I'm still holding out hope on the theory that Ahsoka being saved by Ezra somehow undoes the sequel trilogy in that the First Order doesn't come to power. It'll be interesting to see where this all leads.

Also as a reminder that in legends the prequel Galactic Republic was NOT the first government, rather a successor to the Old Republic that fell during the New Sith War, which succeeded the Old Republic that rose after the events of the Sith Triumvirate, who was a successor of the Old Republic that was decapitated by Exar Kun’s rampage. The recurring theme there is the involvement of the Mandalorians (for the New Sith War, it’s heavily implied they were driven to near extinction during the Jedi-Mandalorian war for the Darksaber) and that the new canon should be HEAVILY DISSUADED from changing this aspect of the lore, no matter how much they want to make new things. I think for canonical consistency, the Mandalorians should remain as a micro scale perspective on the state of the galaxy

Brilliant. Those ideas that you propose about the post sequel era are totally accurate. George Lucas ideas were the same. A galaxy without law and chaos because of the absence of a central government. The criminal syndicates take control of some regions. Lucas thought about Maul as the crimelord, but that character is dead. Who else could replace him? Boba Fett. He was a bounty hunter. He had a mandalorian armor (connected to Maul as the leader of the mandalorians for a short time). Boba Fett is growing in power as a gangster.
George Lucas also spoke about a new female villain, a new Vader. He spoke about Darth Talon. She is a femme fatale type character that fits perfectly in a gangsters war environment. She could be trained by a mysterious darkside acolyte like Uber was going to be.
The mysteries of the Force and the Whills could be part of the story. Rey and her padawan could be part of that plot.
Remember, George Lucas always spoke about Vader's grandchildren? What if we discover more stories about Luke's lost years, disconnected of the Force and living as a simple man?
As you said, the mandalorians could be central in the plot as a new army and a new tyranny menace.

I really want the new movies, whenever they come out to be of a time period where Grogu is like 200-300 years old and has become the second ever Jedi-Mandolorian, like the guy who created the dark saber. Grogu has started a new Jedi order that allows the Jedi to have emotions to make better judgement call, where it is a mix of the Jedi and Mandolorian culture. Clearly Rey would be dead by that point but tbh who cares about her story. I dont know what the evil/bad power could be in the movie but I like the idea of Grogu creating a better, more sustainable Jedi order that works better, but still faces challenges

I for one like the image in my head that that following in their ancestor's foosteps. They returned as a people as they grew back to power with Grogu as Mandalore by the time the New Order took place and fell. Not once were they ever mentioned, which leads to plenty of room for them to simply have slowly put themselves back together and reunited their kin. Where in this new era, the Mandalorians achieved in their ways where the republic would have scoffed at them that warranted the Empire's fear to annihilate them. They were united by their creed. A broken Republic struggling to get their government to come together, while the Mandalorians rebuild their empire at a slow but steady pace, one planet at a time.
