I remember his send off. Caravan of what seemed like hundreds of cars with red rags on there antennas flying in the wind. Church packed inside and out. His face was full of kisses with that dark purple or black lipstick...they was playing schoolboy crush by AWB when we was standing in a line trying to get in. Wow this history is crazy growing up at one time living in the "Walls" on Euclid Ave, up the alley from the Redhouse. Got mad memories of walking pass the Redhouse going either to the Drive-thru dairy, liquor store or to "Baby Boys" pool hall, pizza shop, or barber shop. The Walls was like the projects, low income, hard working households, and single parent households, food stamps, gov't cheese, and S&H/ or Blue chip stamps!. Everybody would come through, Big Tookie on swole, even Cats from the L.A. Lockers. There would be shoot outs, police raids, sherm sold everywhere, just all types of activity in that spot. I used to watch the big dudes lift weights in the back yard of the Redhouse, hell I was in the fourth grade going to Lindbergh moving from one side of Compton leaving Roosevelt. DAMN KEV MAC, you be on it!! This here is like a time machine. That's why I phucc's with KEV MAC the research is like Sherm in the 70's. the💣!!
Man this bring back so many memories! I remember my relative Antonette Jones, told me the story of what Bartender told his mom! That he was most likely going to be killed that day! He said “He didn’t want anyone to be sad, that he want everyone to party and celebrate his life” She had that exact obituary of him”🔥🔥🔥KevMac!!!

I was dating bartender when he was shot. His mother called me early in the morning to tell me he was shot and passed away. I think about him and realized he kept me away from his gang life. I only knew a couple of his friends. Joey was great , respectful and loving to me. I’ll never forget him ❤ DJ
His sister @bigskycountry did mention he had met someone special he really liked and spent most of his time with his girlfriend instead of the streets as he was trying to leave that life behind. I also hear that he was pushing for peace. Hear nothing but good things about this bother It’s a shame who ever shot him didn’t see he was trying to change his ways and didn’t give him the opportunity to grow and mature in life. RIP to Joey the Bartender.
@@rudyg3109 that girlfriend was me. He took me to my first Earth, Wind & Fire concert. He stayed with me all night one time when I wasn’t feeling well and his mom put a picture of us in his casket. She put it inside of his suit so nobody would remove it. When we first started dating he told me he wanted me to meet his mom. I’m glad she liked me and she told him don’t mess up. I will always love and miss him. There was so much we could have accomplished together. I still tear up thinking about him.

Indeed. And geographically, Compton is a small city. You are talking about turning a few corners and being in a totally different gang turf. That's one reason Compton was so violent back in the 80's and early 90's. Too many sets competing for too little turf.

We moved to Compton when I was 4 in 1977. My mother taught at Compton High. Moved to the valley a couple years later but it's interesting to hear what was going on around me when I was on the playground an unaware.

His name slips me, and I haven't seen him since 2001 when I got locked up, but his nickname was "Woods" or "Wood". It's a long shot, but you never know if his story is true or if someone knew him. Would be in his late 50s as I'm in my 40s
