It's true: Americans say 'Aloominum', while Brits and Europeans say 'Aloominiyum'. Much like how Americans drop the U in Colour, it comes down to American newspapers cutting out what they considered superfluous letters on the printing press to save money

There are many different versions. Ultimately neither were correct as he originally called it 'Alumine', although 'Alumium' was also used. Just a standard debate of US v Rest of the World with both sides with their own spin.
Personally there is certainly another one to chalk up with "Rest of the world uses this" (E.g. Celsius, Metric) and US uses but *shrug* who cares.

25% tip? That's insane though. You know, employers could just pay them a living salary without the tips, so employees aren't dependant on those tips. Just an idea we have here in Europe and it's working pretty well.

To be fair, while they didn't make the food, they are still using the gas and are adding on more ware and tear on their vehicles so they do deserve a decent tip. Though, the amount if tip shouldn't be based on how much your order was, but how far you live from the place you are ordering food. The farther the delivery driver has to drive, the more they should be tipped.
Then again, when I am at work, I sometimes order dinner from one of the places that is like a 2-3 minute drive up the road and I usually tip a minimum of $5.

@@Green_Cumulon You do know most people who work for like Door Dash and Uber Eats are mostly self employed in a sort of way. They don't have a set schedule most of the times and no supervisor telling them what to do. They basically sign up with the app and toggle whether or not they are available to pick up any local orders. If they get a notification for an order, they can choose if they want to accept it or let someone else take care of it. A LOT of their income they make is based off the tips they get.
At least...that's how it sounds like it goes from my understanding. I've never done it personally myself but have other people explain what it was like when they worked for services like that.

As someone who use to be a delivery driver for Jimmy John's, $3 is honestly not bad at all, if I got $3 every delivery I made, it's builds up and honestly is perfectly okay with me, like yes and $5 or more was a dream, but $3 isn't bad at all (tho one time I delivered food, I did get pissed off when they tipped me 10 cents after I drove passed our allowed delivery radius for them, but to be clear, I didn't tamper their food, make a rude comment to the customer's face or anything, I mean I did talk to my work bestie at the time and we did talk shit, but I didn't do anything that messed up because of it)

puffer, tipping wouldnt be necessary if the employer paid the salary, all you are doing by tipping is saving money to the employer, the only tipping that matters is when its actually an extra and not making a salary
You do understand how a lot of these delivery services work right? Most people that work them aren't under a direct management/employer. They don't have a set schedule or someone breathing down their necks telling them what to do. After they sign up with the app and get everything set up, they toggle if they are available for deliveries or not. Then if they get a notification, they choose if they want to accept the delivery or not. The tips they earn are the bulk of their income for the work they do.

Fun fact about aluminum and its spelling: it was named by Sir Humphry Davy, a british chemist, who also named other elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, barium, and magnesium. He published his findings and named it with the spelling Aluminum. They were sent worldwide, but then British scientists took issue with the name, because it didn't fit his typical naming convention and "didn't sound Latin enough" (despite the fact that it's not Latin, it's a made up word). So the British started using the spelling Aluminium, but the original (and correct) spelling is Aluminum.
He used both actually, in a publication he made in 1808. Aluminum would have been used if he had been successful in fully isolating it from other substances, but because he couldn't fully isolate it, he used Aluminium. ...BigPuffer, doordash only pays the driver a FRACTION of the order price. This order is a little bit confusing as to how it's explained so he potentially COULD have made $30, plus the $3 tip, but it's more likely that he barely got any of that $30 (especially since it looks like the homeowner posted the video, so on their end it cost $30 but that definitely wasn't the same amount the dasher got). Plus, dashers gotta pay their own gas bills so even if he did make $33 it's possible he spent more than that in gas to deliver it, especially with gas prices the way they are rn. My mom used to do doordash, but quit using it specifically because of THIS along with some other problems (now she does other food delivery apps, like ubereats. Suprisingly enough there's significantly less problems with it than doordash) but one of the major problems with doing this for a living is picking up an order and realizing too late you have to go into the f•••ing BOONIES just to deliver the damn thing. I live in a relatively small city, and riding with my mom while she does this has shown me places in our home city that I honestly didn't even know EXISTED. But anyway, in most cases, people are ordering doordash because they don't wanna go out and get the food themselves, and the most common reason is cuz they live in f•••ing Nowhere, USA and don't wanna spend their own time & gas money to go get it, but SOMEBODY has to pay for it to get delivered, and honestly those tips pay most of the way through in about 99% of cases. And this doesn't even scratch the surface of everything the dashers have to deal with, don't even get me STARTED on the restaraunts themselves. PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TIP YOUR DASHERS WELL, they most likely went through hell to get that food to you and they deserve respect and fair payment for it.

Alright so, delivery driver tip lore ahead.
Delivery services don't pay jack or shit to their drivers. Sometimes it can get as low as $2 per order without a tip. Furthermore, it doesn't matter to the driver how much the food costs. How big the order is doesn't affect how much work they have to do or time they have to invest virtually at all. If you order a $5 hamburger from McDonalds, it takes about the same amount of work as a $30 hamburger from some gourmet restaurant.
You're not paying the driver *for your food.* You're paying them so that you don't have to go pick your food *up*.
So if you tip 10% on a $30 order, that driver might have just spent 15 or 20 minutes getting to and waiting at the restaurant, since it looks like a smaller place, and then based on this looking like a more distant area, driven another half an hour to get to your house, not to mention that they now have to get back from your house to wherever the restaurants are, and they got paid, MAYBE, $10 bucks. On the VERY high end.
Now obviously the dude shouldn't have spat on the food. He shouldn't be mad at you. He should be mad at the industry that's almost literally *not paying him* to do *all of their work for him,* as well as for running a system that, in my experience, twists peoples' arms into taking EVERY order sent to them lest they get punished and lose income or possibly their livelihood.
But the idea that he shouldn't be upset at all is a bit much, considering it's VERY possible that he just got paid sub minimum wage to cart your food across some indeterminate distance.

By technicality aluminum is the original and aluminium is the revised version basically because they guy who named it coudn't decide.
Fun fact, I have seen where people in the U.K. actually refer to aluminum (properly called aluminium) as “foil” rather than saying “Go get the aluminium foil.” Fairly certain US is the only country saying the full thing out each time they need some foil for their cooking or what have you.
By the way, the bauxite ore that’s mined is turned into the chemical composition aluminium. So, technically, the rest of the world is accurate in calling it “aluminium” - but as the people here in the US seem bent on keeping Americans stupid rather than smart, they left it as aluminum.
