The fact ridiculously silly and hilarious stuff like this isn't considered suitable for 'mainstream' TV in Australia is exactly why 'mainstream' TV is dying and Netflix is growing
It probably has something to do with the fact that most people who still watch mainstream TV are over the age of 30 and execs that decide what shows get used are based on that demographic and what they think they'll like. Which unfortunately means silly shit like aunty donna don't get a real chance. Except possibly 7mate.
Free-to-air TV in Australia is a fucking embarrassment. One of the top Reddit posts on r/australia recently was some dude in Belgium who got Australian TV over there late at night was asking why our TV is so shit. Imagine being Belgian and trying to wrap your head around the trainwreck that is Scotty Cam and The Block crew.
Old people like mainstream tv
@@moy_moy85 and keep in mind that Australia has a population of 25 million people and Belgium has a population of 11 and a half that doesn’t even speak the same language.
Well this has aged poorly
Mad props to the overlooked editor of this video. Some great use of videos to compliment the topic!
I was going to comment the same thing. It's amazing how well the visuals compliment what's being said.
I like to think that Mason and Zach were just sitting outside the mancave like grounded children.
Hopefully they got to play ball with all their free time.
@@Montaq_ No free time!!!!
But also that they had never met and were each told the other one didn't like them before hand, so they were both so bored they wanted to talk to each other but were just afraid enough of the other one to not say anything until just before they were let out and now both of them are forever sad about how they treated the other one

"10 australian referenes that you may have missed" when James?
That bit with the swords was excellent. The joke just kept going and it escalated, and then the "Kill me. I want to die" was perfect. And the reference to "The Wolverine" was perfect, because it is a reference to a movie no one cares or talks about anymore, but it made the joke better for people that got it, and it was genuine. The perfect example of what you were talking about.
both of these men poured wine into my mouth at a show last year. good times
I guess it's true what they say - everything IS a drum.
I'm indebted to the weekly planet for introducing me to the Aunty Donna boys. Loved the Netflix show and now burning through their youtube content
I wish I could get “Bigoted bigoted bigoted Bill” out of my head
thanks, Aunty Donna
I've personally got "Texts from your parents!" stuck in my head.
Being from Canada, never heard of Aunty Donna before listening to your previous episode. Watched them on netflix and become a big fan
It was so heartwarming that mark actually watched all their transformers reviews. I like that they genuinely watch and enjoy your stuff
James being a media man and discussing with other content creators gives me LIFE
Mark Bonanno looks like the Mandarin if he was a hipster
Lmao that was the only thing going through my head when I was watching the series
Mark sounds like an Australian SpongeBob when he yells.
Mr Sunday Movies & Mason better be in season 2
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on RUclips before but this show is incredible , I can’t describe the level of happiness it brings me , Life is all down hill from here on in cause nothing will ever compare to this
James: I'm the smallest in my group of friends.
Nick: Am I a joke to you?
Got me cup o' mornin' brown ready
This show is like watching interdimensional cable, love it! :D
The show is incredible, I'm about to rewatch it
That anecdote about the notes given on your Goodbye joke is like a microcosm of the universal battle of creators vs. suits.
It was by far one of the greatest shows i have ever seen. I was so caught off guard by the style of comedy and how funny it was. I love it. Haven't seen something funny like this in years
Why is Melbourne full of comedians and showmen?
Or do I simply not know comedians from my city?
There is an international comedy festival on here each year (well not this year) so plenty of inspiration and a local scene with world class comedians doing a set in a pub somewhere.
They aren’t from Melbourne they are for ballarat
@@Awesome1467 Ah yes, the far off land half a continent away from melbourne
@@drunkill form Melbourne to ballarat is the almost twice as long as the distance from east coast to west coast in Ireland lol
@@Awesome1467 but that might just be because Ireland is tiny
Dear Australia! Please, PLEASE let Aunty Donna represent you in the next Eurovision! We Europeans are gonna go nuts for the boys!
Thanks for showing me Aunty Donna. I've been obsessed with them ever since.
Moogie Woogie, yo...
This show is like a cross between "Stella" and "Tim and Eric" andI LOVE IT.
This show was awesome, I’ve watched the whole thing twice and will probably watch it a third!
some of the sketches in this show are GENIUS
The South Africa sketch in Episode 2 is hilarious lol
Their South African accents were terrible (in a good way). I was happy to go along with it, but I was even happier when the characters said that they were just putting on fake accents.
There are so many episodes of their podcast with the South African Sams. If you love that bit, you should give those episodes a try
Raise your hand if you only just found out the name Glennridge is a joke
I thought it was just the school they filmed at
The video selections are fantastic, perfect additions to the audio.
I just recently found Mr. Sunday Movies and I F’n love it! And thanks to you guys, I’m currently watching Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House of Fun right now and holy shit this is fucking hilarious!
Some of the best comedy I've seen on Netflix
1:35 you're jokkkin' with that editing...
Thank you mr sunday movies and mason for putting me wise to aunty donna, i never knew i needed so much Australian content in my life. You guys, aunty donna, alannah pearce. you're all very passionate people and i love how much fun you like to share with people in your own ways.
As a film student this fills me with hope that anyone can make it by getting really busy and passionate.
Amazing show, the lympics episode had me in tears and physical pain.
Seriously one of my new favorite shows, also glad to see that yall are friends in real life too!
Loved everything about this vid. Continued success to everyone!
Great video, as a longtime fan of theirs, it was great to hear the full story of the jump to Netflix!
Gave their show a watch. At first I thought it was the most stupid thing I’ve ever watched. Then after half of the episode I found my self laughing becuase of how stupid it is (in a good way). Honestly great show.
This was great, so happy for their to success and to hear a part of the process
I watched their netflix series after seeing them on your show, and they are sooo funny. I didn't expect that kind of humor and now i Have a new series to send my friends kkkk
I absolutely watched it all the way through, and will do so again Broden!
Thank you guys so much for telling me about this, it's beautiful!
Since the caravan of garbage episode i watched the entire series in a day and have been enamoured by the channel. ABSOLUTE LADS.
I binged it all and loved it
Would love to see s2! These guys are brilliant
Bring Aunty Donna back for as much stuff as possible! Hilarious guys
Ngl I found you guys maybe a year ago through recommendations I think, usually MCU shit and I'm so glad I did, not many youtubers I have I'll gladly listen to for 40 minutes, and now you'rethe first and only podcast I listen to on spotify, now hearing of aunty donna and the fact you recommend them I defo will watch especially since I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland. But I've qlso now realised some of my favourite random sketches on facebook without a source I've seen, is from them, so yeah to mr sunday movies and aunty donna ty for being great guys :)
i didnt love every sketch but tiny little man killed me
These guys should thank you - because of you I've been watching them all day and they are amazing - this show is amazing - thank you mr Sunday 😊 and Big up these guys
Fantastic interview! Love Aunty Donna ❤
This video seems like it must have taken SO long to edit. Major props to the editor(s)!
A Mr Sunday Movies and Aunty Donna crossover 😱 what more could an Aussie boy ask for!
I like to think they're covered in Vegemite while recording this.
maybe a bit of pud friend?
As a Ringwood boy born and bred, the Car City Ringwood joke was one of the best things I've ever seen
So proud of the boys
This was such a cool and revealing video! Thanks for making it!
I'm from Ecuador, we don't even speak English here, and i loooove this show
Loved the show, and the Randy Feltface cameo.
I've always wanted to make an animated show for TV and quarantine has given me time to learn animation which I upload to this channel. I hope to animate a pilot that I can pitch to Netflix in a couple years.
I think the thing with the references is true about the authentic aspect but I also think audiences are more aware of certain things indirectly these days
This was really fun and interesting to hear :)
I Also had my LA experience a couple of years ago when doing an animated show for Stan Lee and yeah, it all sounds very recognizable. Anyway, love the show, and here's to season 2!
This show is 1000% what the world needed right now. Can’t thank you lads enough for introducing me to them (did a review myself on my channel, if anyone fancies checking it out... plug over).
Now back to drumming everything in sight...
I love Australian Jack Whitehall, and Australian Andy Samberg and Australian Peeta from Hunger games
Love this collab 👍🏼
looove these types of vids mr interviewbagmovies
Glad James made this
Just found a new youtube to binge watch.
Great Vid! Would love to see more like this!
I can't get "Blair Bouyant! He's a clairvoyant!" out of my head. And I don't want to.
That ‘green lit’ edit was immense.
I heard the A in L.A. stands for mud
you guys sooo give me the strangely hysterical throw-back feels of KITH, with a little bit of a FOTC vibe, and I am totally here for it.
Some of my fave all-time, hilariously weird AF skits from back in the day (that I still recite on the reg, word for word)
- Thats what keeps me going, I swear!
I even spoke to Dave Foley from Kids once, and told him that, and he actually thanked _ME!_
Like, are you serious! LOL
I had to tell him, _"No, no, no, Thank you!"_
It was almost like I actually got to do a bit with him! ("Thank you!" "No no no, thank you! LOL)
AHAHAHA I LOVE IT!
But something I've learned along the way, in this crazy, weird depressing world, is that you gotta laugh, so you don't cry. Keep on laughing, thats my mantra.
But anyway, I hope you guys do well, and bring on more seasons!
xo
These fools won't last a month in horizontal!
Guys, I needed to see this. I'm trying to do the same thing with my sketch team. Not sure how I missed this video, but this whole thing is going on my mood board. Hell, I'm going to workout to this video.
Brilliant show
8:37 the vox pop segment sponsored by Eagle Boys Pizza made me laugh very hard
I’m from Canada, Netflix is my first exposure to them, my friends looked at me weird when I played it for them, idgaf I love it, I feel like I’m the only one who understands the clever comedy.
P.s. we know of vegemite, we don’t know how it tastes.
It’s not very clever it’s clown comedy
Definitely go check out their RUclips it’s proper quality
Such an underrated series so far.
Mark at 4:26 is a deadringer for Nick Mason.
Cow doiy is now part of my daily vernacular!
I watched some after the podcast, man its hilarious.
Saw these men in Philadelphia. One of 'em sat next to me and threw popcorn over my supple form; still got the corn in a book.
I'm loving all this aunty Donna content
I haven’t watched Big Ol’ House of Fun yet, but now I’m going to be looking for a ‘Frank Walker from National Tiles’ joke.
i love how they say , as aussies, stop over in LA on way to/back from Edinburgh...thats not along the way lol thats a bloody huge triangle of a trip haha
to quote joel hodgson, "you don't worry about if enough people got the joke. it's that you know the right people got the joke."
After seeing a trailer for Moonfall in theaters I can confirm that it is a real movie.
EGG HELMS
You should do more interview stuff
Found Aunty Donna via Netflix and now a big fan.
You could constantly tell it was originally shot to be watched vertical on Quibi, but otherwise, great program
Took watching to realize it’s you guys at the start? Or end? of the end of their podcasts
need this vid so bad
I know i haven’t gotten any sleep by the fact that i thought a frame of the video that had Mark in it was a clip of Trevor Slattery 😂
I wish it was longer
Always room for some 40 minute video
I fkin love Aunty Donna!!! Love from America boys
Now when I hear Quibi I just burst out laughing
"MY NAME IS EGG! I DON'T KNOW WHO I AM!" -Egg Helms
