Thanks Dr. You are probably right about their problem. I should not even acknowledge that they exist but the viewers seem to enjoy it when senior citizens speak up and it is not in my nature to let stuff like that go by.
@PuttPutt4video i was really flabbergasted that a very intense research is done on putt putt boats and each crafted so well . I ADMIRE ur HOBBY and DEDICATION. nice watching your video :)
Thanks for watching and commenting. That probably has some effect. There is quite a lot of speed variation during a test that goes in to arriving at the average speeds quoted so the attachment is not the main speed limiter. It would be nice to be able to test in a straight line with ideal conditions and eliminate the drag of turning.
You should try to determine what is different when the engine "over performs", and then try to replicate those conditions until you achieve a steady result between runs. Measuring more variables, like water & ambient air temperatures, or using a graduated syringe to measure exactly how much water you put into the engine, and then adjusting that volume accordingly. Finding whatever it takes to get the best performance each time will give your expirements more control.
The statesman and scientist Ben Franklin performed similar experiments to determine the best shape that would result in the greatest efficiency for canal boats. Penn State University runs a giant "water tunnel" that fill a building. It's fine to make hydrodynamic calculations, but they still test profiles in water for real-world results. Nice work.
They did... steam engine trains.... the government couldn't make money off selling us water. They even had electric cars, of course batt tech was not good enough in the turn of the century.
I have questions 1)What is the experimental result if you use just one single jet tube. 2) What would you think happen if you use 1 tube in front to intake & 1 jet tube behind after adding one-way valves to direct the water. 3) Do you think a CONE shape boiler can provide better jet.
In theory one tube should be very good. In practice it is very temperamental. Number of tubes, size of tubes, length of tubes are all interrelated. 2) I think it works but not as good. 3) No. Thanks for watching.
+welshpete12 Hello welshpete. Thank you. Unfortunately these engines do not scale up predictably. Some very large engines have been built but the performance has been dismal. There is a video on my best engine which is larger.
+Daryl Foster Yes I can that must be true , If not, they would be a common means of propulsion today . They seem to be very similar to the engine used in the V1 German weapon of the second world war . Do you think that could be the way forward ?
+welshpete12 There is a similarity to the V-1 rocket which is a pulse jet and has undergone considerable development. You can search RUclips for videos if you like and see results that are amazing. Both engines are poor re efficiency so that makes commercial use unlikely. There are a couple of differences in the two engines. Pop pop engines do not require any movable parts. Though if equipped with a diaphragm which moves that does not affect its ability to run and in fact reduces the power. Also the pop pop is an external heat engine while the pulse jet is an internal heat engine that usually uses some moving parts for sustained operation. Significant future development seems unlikely but who knows.
Sure. Any could but these engines do not make a lot of power so weight has to be considered. This video has an RC boat.. ruclips.net/video/2CINMciZwcI/видео.html
@TheDownloadfreegames Interesting thoughts. Some technical difficulties arise. The curves, length, diameter and quantity of tubes affect performance. Too many tubes bent into a boat shape would not likely be a better or lighter boat.. Drag from irregular hull shape and weight of method used to keep the tubes joined and watertight likely more than as done now. Like your way of thinking though.
Proper tube length is determined by tube ID and testing. Lots can be outside of the boat to get C of G correct. Either the tubes are outside or the boat is longer which adds more drag and weight. The steam has to cool and condense long before it reaches the end of the tube or the engine will not run or soon stop running. Reading about how a putt putt engine works will help you understand why. Thanks for watching and the comment. PP4V
Your responses to negative comments are awesome. Judging by August and Bboy's comments, I wonder if they both don't have some repressed sexuality issues that are causing them to act out by being jerks online. .
you measure almost the same speed in all, but I see you're using a string attached to the boat centered in the pool so they can turn. And I think in this way, the faster a boat goes, more line resistance will find. By that reason all speeds looks similar. Well, that is my opinion. Nice models.
@laranjo123 The design for building these boats out of one piece (mostly) of flat aluminum is basic. For a new boat it is only a matter of changing the measurements for LOA, beam and displacement etc. to get what I require for a new boat.
Sometimes these engines will run quite a bit stronger than their usual normal performance. It is not something you can make them do. It just happens for a while and the goes back to normal.
If the boiler pulses, then you could have an "intake" with a check-valve to replenish the water lost to thrust. Of course you would need to heat this new water with another candle.
+TIMEtoRIDE900 The water works like a piston alternately sucking and blowing. All the water is not ejected if the engine is running properly so in theory it could keep running as long as the heat was right.
Thanks for the explanation - - so it runs indefinitely, until the candle is done ?? Why so many tubes ?? The tubes need to be water cooled ?? Thanks again !!
Most people figure out what the fishing line is for with out asking. Watch all of my videos and learn what others already know by applying common sense. Or maybe the laws of centrifugal force don't exist where you are.
This is a heads up for you August Shaffer. Someone who is a total failure and a hater has been using your computer. Maybe you should get a better pass word. Hope you find out who it is.
Not sure what I enjoy more, the engines, or the responses to the uneducated and belligerent horde out there. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed both and thanks for commenting.
Hardie. We call them ''Americans''.
I was looking for a new hobby (my old one being reviving and cleaning up antique knives) I do believe I found a new one thank you so much :)
Good eye Cody. I did not see that .17. Thanks. It is nice to hear from people that read comments before commenting themselves.
Thanks for the good watch, I genuinely found it interesting.
very beautiful boats and ideas
thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and for commenting
Sir you make BEAUTIFUL boats.

Im just getting fond towards pop2 boats..
Your videos are very informative as i just embarked on my RC Bismark pop2 powered engine.. Wish me luck..
Intiran Harikrishnan I do wish you luck and show us a photo if you have success.
Glad you like it and kind of you to say so.
Amazing stuff buddy👍🏻🇬🇧
"I am Doctor Evil and today i will show you my putt putt boats."
sorry couldnt help it, awesome boat!
Nice engine design, saw this concept a while ago so was looking for a more efficient engine and I think I just found it
ShinyGiratina028 Hope it works out for you.

These are very nice boats. Good job sir!
those are the best motors i have seen
That’s really cool. I’m going to build some with my grandkids
nice boats best i have ever seen..
espectacular lo tuyo quisiera saber con que combustible funciona sos un grande¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Excellent and informative! Thanks for posting!

Love your videos
You should try and pop pop boat asmr video, you voice is relaxing!
I have not offered any for sale so far. Which one do you want and how much are you offering?

Hi! You are an artist! very interesting, thanks from Italy.
Have you tried to make one with valves? That absorbs water front, and take from behind.
Yes it is. Have you bought or built one yet?
If humanity had fogured this out hundreds of years prior and refined it, imagine how many more marine mammals would still be alive

Very interesting test.
Nice video Daryl. Every consider career in hydrodynamics? Got the perfect voice for this somehow as well.
Thanks for watching and commenting Landon. I appreciate it.
Oh wow. That's great! How do you make the hulls? Do you make your own or do you buy them? :)
How are you doing Daryl, anything new you're working on?
Beautiful made models ! I know nothing about this form of propulsion. But wouldn't making the " engine", and exhaust bigger improve performance ?
+welshpete12 Hello welshpete. Thank you. Unfortunately these engines do not scale up predictably. Some very large engines have been built but the performance has been dismal. There is a video on my best engine which is larger.

does the length of the intakes/outlets matter?
are string attached in front to give it circular motion
cool,do you also sell them ??? i would be interested
@FourDollaRacing man respect the oldies
Thank you. What is an asmr video???
Most of the boats you made are better than the boats currently on-sale.
I have a question how do you plot your Bodyplans?
Thanks for the kind comment.
interesting just got to Q
could any of the boilers works for RC on open lake?
Sure. Any could but these engines do not make a lot of power so weight has to be considered. This video has an RC boat.. ruclips.net/video/2CINMciZwcI/видео.html
thanks
What if you made a slightly curved hull, like a banana, that matches the pond circumference?
@TheDownloadfreegames Interesting thoughts. Some technical difficulties arise. The curves, length, diameter and quantity of tubes affect performance. do you sell these ? if so how can i get one?
I am not sure that I understand your question. My answer is 7 brass tubes 3/16"OD x 5/32 ID.
Thank you for taking the trouble to say so. I appreciate it.
@DEVIGO06 Hello from Canada. Yes it is and thanks for viewing and commenting.
very nice boats ... and good sense of humour ;-)

@PuttPutt4video how much do u think
There are several kinds of steam driven boats. These have no moving parts and yes, this is how they work.
como es el nombre de los tubos y que diametro.
grasias
@PuttPutt4video
I think he was referring to where they were able to get that copper pipe! Anyone know? required
The thread is a tether and just keeps it circling.See my other videos.
Why? Must be because it's very cold in Canada.
r u selling them,
Thank you. I have not offered any for sale as yet. How $ great $ is $ your $ interest?
what would happen if you hooked the 2 engines together either buy running one boiler in to the other or connecting the outlet pipes together
Then it would not be two engines. It would be one that usually will not work very well.
Higher speed from hotter flames?
Your responses to negative comments are awesome. Judging by August and Bboy's comments, I wonder if they both don't have some repressed sexuality issues that are causing them to act out by being jerks online.

Can these engines be used in boats in which people ride in?
These engines make very little power so they are of no practical use in larger boats. Thanks for watching.
@EngineeringFun Thanks for watching and the kind comment.
Very good video.... :)
You have a nice voice c:
@samalert Yes. So it does not run into the side of the pool. Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is such a cool hobby
Three engines equal to the mass of two engines? Is it possible
@454charing I do! Just rufflin' the feathers a bit...
Sometimes these engines will run quite a bit stronger than their usual normal performance. It is not something you can make them do. It just happens for a while and the goes back to normal.
And what dose over perform mean ???
Great video :D
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it/them.
@PuttPutt4video how about the first one shown
@454charing Thanks for the kind comment and for respecting the oldies. That's nice.
@qwert0t No need to apologize Doctor and thanks for watching. Now send links to all your friends.

+TIMEtoRIDE900 You would think so wouldn't you, but, that is not how it works.
I just stumbled across this today - -do the tubes eject water, or steam ??
Thanks . . .
I'd like to build for a kid.
+TIMEtoRIDE900 The water works like a piston alternately sucking and blowing. All the water is not ejected if the engine is running properly so in theory it could keep running as long as the heat was right.

+TIMEtoRIDE900 For this engine 7 tubes worked best. Yes the steam needs to be condensed to continue the cycle.
can u build this in huge as a pool heater ?
vanquish Sure but it would probably have less power than these ones.
but i mean could you build a construct with the same physics which u heat with a campfire and so it will heat up a pool ?
vanquish I suppose it would be possible but terribly inefficient.
Many people get sleepy when they find themselves in over their heads. Particularly true for people who make comments but can't make videos.
What was used for heat. You had a cigarette lighter but the fuel sores was not ???? to me.
BB gun fire? Don't know. No one has been able to hit any of them yet. You missed the sequel? I did it first. Thanks for watching.
Heat is by a wick burner using methyl hydrate for fuel. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That's great. Hope you enjoy it. For me building beats buying every time.
I Liked how make?
@TheCandyRebellion No. I'm his twin sister Justine.
Most people figure out what the fishing line is for with out asking. Watch all of my videos and learn what others already know by applying common sense. Or maybe the laws of centrifugal force don't exist where you are.
Good reply. Very funny. That explains everything. Thank you. :)
Thanks. Kind comments are always appreciated.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
@nunvikingsofthesea I can't and the experts say it is not likeky anyone can.
Thanks for the comment. Sorry I cannot reply properly as your words do not translate. Your Channel is not available here.
This is a heads up for you August Shaffer. Someone who is a total failure and a hater has been using your computer. Maybe you should get a better pass word. Hope you find out who it is.
He did say a boat. The boat visible at 0:17 of this video.
what a voice !
Thank you.
Many have tried. All have failed. There are many problems that are not obvious.
