      Actually we did have the internet when we were kids since it was invented in 1969. We just didn't have the World Wide Web in our pockets every minute of every day.

    Interesting topic; it actually needs to be talked about. This movie seems like the son of "Captivated," a Christian documentary a few years back about the domination of social media and technology. It touched on many of the same points and would be a good companion video to this new documentary Kirk is doing. And yes, there is a big danger with social media and the access to it for our young people, particularly Christian kids. Colossians 2:8 says, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." This verse can easily be violated when young believers in Christ have access to social media (Facebook, internet, etc.) that tempt them with ungodly worldviews, inappropriate content, and numerous distractions.
    We may think video games or social "friendships" can't hurt, but it is only a small piece of the puzzle of brain stimulation and indoctrination. Ask yourself, when sitting waiting for an appointment or in line somewhere or even outside at the park, how many heads do you see facing downward enslaved to their gadgets? The gadgets have become the new "gods" that we can't live without turning virtual reality into something more important than the real world itself. Tim Challies has been teaching on Christian's use of social media/digital world for years because it is a bigger problem than people realize.

      r/phonesarebad People aren't enslaved to phones it's just that we have something better to do instead of doing nothing at all now. Link me to literally any actual proof you have and it can be easily refuted. There isn't anything solid. All crime rates are going down thanks to the introduction of the internet and phones.

    • @2timothy23
      @2timothy23 6 лет назад +1

      Evan, if you reread my comments, I am saying the focus on gadgets is so strong, it would seem that people can't live without them. They spend more time looking down at them or being on social media than actually interacting with one another. You can see it all around you; this is just a general truth. Do you really need some type of study with statistics to prove that people look down at their gadgets with their free time more than they converse with one another? This is the danger because interaction in the real world is being replaced with social media. And why would I go out of my way to show you "actual proof" when you've already revealed your presupposition? You said it can easily be refuted, therefore anything I show will be "refuted" and it would be a waste of time to find research. And the very documentary I quoted in my first post shows enough interviews to validate it (if you want to take the time to look it up).
      As for the crime rates going down thanks to the introduction of the internet and phones, this is a logical fallacy of false cause. It's like saying people act crazy because of a full moon. There could be many other factors involved there, such as better law enforcement, employment opportunities, or even some people that have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ and have changed hearts (2 Corinthians 5:7). There's nothing wrong with having a phone and using it as the tool it was meant to be, but if you can't converse with another person, play board games with your kids, read a book, or even go without any of this stuff for a week without freaking out, then it becomes a form of worship, hence like a god. No offense, but I respectfully disagree with you.

    • @kirasmith1147
      @kirasmith1147 6 лет назад

      Why do you assume that interation with others online isn't equal to real life interation? The brain takes it as the same and the same information and feelings are exchanged. It would also be good to note that you can't assume they're all on social media. It isn't replacing the real world it's just becoming part of it. Change isn't always bad. There isn't any good reason to believe it's a negative other than the fact that you see a change happening.

    • @2timothy23
      @2timothy23 6 лет назад +1

      Evan, no offense, but I get your point; you disagree with me. I disagree with you. I make it a point not to make multiple comments that leads to online squabbles that lead nowhere. I have other things I need to do for the rest of the day; I just responded to you out of courtesy, but I have a lesson to prepare, a message I'm going to preach this Sunday, and I have children I'm about to spend time with. So I'm going to get off social media now and take care of other things. So I will leave it at that, but since I am a Christian, it would be prudent that I cut and paste the gospel I prepare for anyone that may not know Jesus Christ (which may include you).
      What is the gospel? The word gospel means “good news,” but to understand the depths of the good news, we must understand the bad news first. We must understand that every human being are born sinners. What is sin? Sin is defined as breaking the absolute moral laws of God and coming short of His glory according to 1 John 3:4 and Romans 3:23. What is the absolute moral law of God? They can be summed up in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) and God’s measurement of perfection is so absolute that if you break one law, you are guilty of breaking them all (James 2:10). Sin isn’t just what you do (a verb), it is who you are (a noun). Every thought, word, and deed of mankind is against God; no one seeks, understands, or fears God at all (Romans 3:10-18). Mankind has inherited this sin nature from the first humans God made, Adam and Eve (Genesis 3, Romans 5:12) because they disobeyed Him. Because we’re sinners by birth, once we die, we must stand before God and give an account to Him as our Creator for breaking His laws. God is holy, righteous, infinite, eternal, self-existent, all powerful, all knowing, as well as our lawgiver and judge (the Bible reveals this throughout scripture), therefore, He must rightly judge His creation for his actions. Everyone will be found guilty according to God’s absolute standards and must be sentenced accordingly; we’ve violated an absolute, eternal God and His punishment will be absolute and eternal. He must punish sinful man to the lake of Fire according to Revelation 20:11-15. You see, man’s only payment for their sin is death, yet there is a way to eternal life (Romans 6:23). How? This is the good news; God has provided Himself as a pardon for sinful man by coming in the flesh as Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is God the Son and the Son of God, the second person of the Godhead (the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit). The sinless Son of God was crucified brutally, died on a cross, and rose again to defeat death, to illustrate that He is God, and to offer redemption from sins. Redemption is being bought back to a relationship with God. God does this out of love and if we trust and confess that Jesus died and rose again, we will be saved from the penalty of our sins and forgiven (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10). How do we believe this? We repent of our sins, which means to have a change of mind about our sins through a godly sorrow (2 Corinthians 7:10), which leads to trust in Jesus Christ. This is known as saving faith. Not wishful thinking or faith by convincing ourselves, but a revelation in our hearts that supernaturally leads to faith in who Jesus is and what Jesus did. This is known as being born again spiritually by God. God will pardon your sins, grant you eternal life in the next life, and a changed heart to live for Him. This is the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ; He died and rose again to offer the pardon we can’t pay in our own works or righteousness. In fact, Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father and heaven (John 14:6), therefore, the only way to forgiveness and eternal life is by Him. This is the good news being offered today and to reject it means you stand before God when you die, relying on your own righteousness, and you will be found guilty. Yet if you repent and trust Jesus Christ today; you will be saved from your sins. Trust Him today for today is the day of salvation.

      This is just scaremongering
      Also television was new at some point, does that mean it was created by the devil? An what did you use to write that comment? It was new at some point so does that mean you wrote that comment using a device created by the devil?
      Oh no this new technology that can make our lives better is satanic or it's brainwashing our children or something like that.

    • @sanditrisler8953
      @sanditrisler8953 6 лет назад +1

      Anything can be used for bad. You think television hasn't been used for evil? Computers? Video games? Even books! This is not scaremongering. We have never in history had technology and social media right at our fingertips, with the anonymity that we have now, and never before has it been easier for someone to have access to our children without our knowledge or consent. Children DO need to be protected. All this electronic communication has also wreaked havoc on their ability to communicate face-to-face. It's not about religion - it's about protecting our kids, being involved in their lives, knowing what they're up to and teaching them what is wise and good and safe for them and what isn't.

    • @2timothy23
      @2timothy23 6 лет назад

      1234567890q, isn't it interesting that your comment proves the "power" and dangers of the digital world and social media. You can hide behind a fake name and make any type of insulting vile comment you want and not have to worry about confrontation or repercussions. You also can't look in the face of the person you're insulting to see a real person or even have meaningful interaction. You basically have all the "power" to say or do what you want and have your fifteen minute of fame, being wise in your own eyes. And unless you talk this way all the time, your personality in public may hide the wickedness you have inside. Marie is right, Christians need to watch and pray because the hatred in people's hearts are very reflective of the messages they post on social media.

    Looks great but a total bust. I would recommend it to no one. It was like one of those pathetic sales tactics where they try to lull you into sitting through it and then at then they ask for money. This was the same. It began and ended with product placement. They talk about religion and God but then only use it for commercial purposes. A real slap in the face of religion and movie making. I have never in my life seen an actual movie pitch a real product after it. Truly disgraceful

      I have no issue with him talking about the Lord, I actually encourage it. Franklin Graham made a great film called Facing Darkness and it was all about the religious experience while confronting evil. The issue I had was using God for commercial purposes. It is all about intent. The vibe of the film was using faith to sell a commercial product

      I agree it is everywhere, including the movies AND church (which is a real shame). The church started to go in this direction with the prosperity doctrine and positive thinking movements. I also agree people are blind to it but it is the job of responsible individuals to either wake them up or reform the flaws with those within leadership positions of the faith
