    Very cool.
    I was a NM Game Warden for 30 years.
    I investigated reportedly wolf depredations, and wolves that were shot or trapped. Saw tracks, but that was it. Never saw one in the wild.

      I seen Mexican greywolves near Lupton, then I've seen regular huge wolves near naschitti, and between towoac and shiprock. Nothing lately. Just tracks, huge paw prints.

    I witnessed a pack of 4 wolves and a herd of elk. I wasn’t able to film them but glassed the interaction for a good 45 minutes. The wolves toyed with the elk as 7 of the bulls in the herd held them at bay as the 31 cows with calves and a big 6x6 bull held up until it was safe. It was a pretty experience to see.

    I hiked in the White Mountains back in May.I stayed at the Hon Dah Casio and hiked several different trails on BLM land in the region duringthe day. I didn't hear any lobos there.
    But,driving the loooooong way back to Tucson through the Gila,I heard some I am pretty sure. I got out of my car a few times to get mesmerized by the night sky out there before I had to fly home to Louisiana.
    On the trip I learned about Aldo Leopold's legacy in Arizona. I learned about him and his legacy in previous trips to the Gila.What an amazing part of the world. I can not wait to go back. This time,I will probably stay in Alpine.

    I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. I live in southeast Arizona (Sierra Vista). I occasionally see coyotes in Cochise County, even in housing areas. But, of course, the wolves stay far away from any place where there are people. They are afraid of people which is a good thing as that keeps them a lot safer.

      I haven’t seen them in Arizona yet. I know they are becoming more recognized in the northeastern part of the country. We don’t have enough wolves yet in this state to really have coywolves. I could see a hybridization with dogs however. Much more likely there.

    Cattle do not have free range The rancher has to pay for a summer lease on a particular section not cheap either

    • @FilmingTheWild
      @FilmingTheWild  5 месяцев назад

      Yea, ranchers pay roughly $3/head per month on public lands here in Arizona, which is historically the lowest fees in the country for pubic land leases for grazing (most states are 4-5x higher than that). For example, in Montana or other states, it's closer to $13 per head a month. Granted private land leases are much higher, but most of the land leases are on public lands here in Arizona. And once the cattle are moved up to their grazing allotments for their 3-4 month stay, they have free range within that allotment, unless they get moved to another allotment per their range rotation agreement with the Forest Service.

    Now to enter the controversy , I believe Multiple Use Land Which US Forest Service Land IS , Can support Users , be they Cattle growers , fly fishers for trout or Wildlife Biographers ... People HAVE tovWork Together !! So YOUR
    Scared of Cows , kinda like the Primal fear of wolves ( or in your case cows). But the Native Americans Lived 1000s of years With Wolves, Grizzly Bears, and Wild Trout. But Later Anglo And Hispanics Killed most off in A Few hundred years. Make the deduction that Greed , the need of profits and misguided belief that destroying the country is a Right Nope it’s Az privilege for All.

      That's awesome you had those experiences seeing the wolves in the wild here in the Southwest! And yes, totally agree with you. I believe there's a way we can all work together, especially with Multiple Use Land etc. We all want the basic same things, preservation of the wild spaces, and access to them to get out and enjoy them. If we all looked at it as a privilege, it would be a game changer for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
