2-4 am has always been a strange time for me. On one hand, it's serene and filled with a peaceful and still silence. But on the other, it's strangely melancholic as I can't help but remember the past and wish things had turned out differently. this playlist captures those feelings perfectly.

Born 1993, when I was around 5/6 me and my family had to move to Germany, Osnabruck because my Dad was stationed there for being in the British Army. We stayed there until 2001. I can honestly say from what memories are still there in my head, are the best years of my life. If I could just relive those days, just for a few hours, I would be so happy.
I spend hours crying happy/sad tears on Google Earth Pro with the time machine of the maps. Seeing my old Primary School before it was demolished. Seeing the Army barracks my dad was at before that too was sadly demolished. Seeing my old childhood home which I haven't seen since we left 23 years ago.
It's even more saddening with how Germany's privacy laws are. Google Street view is practically none existent. So the buildings and the streets I fondly remember are mainly just these pixelated resemblances of buildings that I still vividly remember from my childhood but I can't see how are now or was a few years ago. I only have what I remember, and the odd remnants of videos here on RUclips which is extremely lacking and rare to find
Thankfully some time last year, Germany finally lifted those privacy laws for Google Maps Street view and i finally got to see my home again for the first time since we all left way back in 2001. I will be honest. I've never cried so much in such a long time. It was harrowingly different everywhere i looked around Osnabruck but I could also see things that haven't changed at all.
The walks we went on, the Warner Brothers Movie Theme Park down south near Dorsten. Pony rides in the woods and picking the oldest one there who was called Boris. I picked him all the time because he liked to eat the grass a lot which made the ride last longer so I could spend more time with him. The little & big lake walk just behind the Nettebad. The traditional Christmas Markets in the town centre. Playing video games when my Dad finally came home on my Playstation 1, we would try and beat the games in one day but never could because I didn't have a memory card. Getting excited whenever Pokemon was on the TV. Friends round mine to share the big swimming pool I had.
Watching Halloween Town before going out trick or treating. Finding our first ever pet, a kitten abandoned behind a grit bin while we were on a bike ride and taking her home, we named her Millie. So many memories. All lost to time. With only old VHS tapes & photographs to try and relive those memories at least just a tiny bit.
Oh what Id do just to go back to those days. Nostalgia is such a beautiful but cruel mistress. I hate to love it and love to hate it. I Miss you Osnabruck. I miss you childhood.
But. I have a baby daughter now. And I honestly can not wait to be the best father I can possibly be. And to make everlasting memories with her that she can look back on and smile just as much as I do looking back at the ones I made with my Mum & Dad.
Oh Germany. Oh Osnabruck. Oh childhood. You were the best of days. I'll revisit you one day. With the whole family hopefully.

One thing that makes me sad. I want to meet people who understand this feeling. Kindred spirits. But I think most who regularly experience this are probably terminally online or barely leave the house for anything but work. There's a huge amount of lonely people out there who can understand each other but we're all separated. Imagine the kindred spirits out there youll never get to meet, ones who would make life brighter and more worth living, best friends and potential soul mates. Even now that my career is taking off and I have a gf, I don't think im with the right one and feel surrounded by npcs and shallow unfulfilling relationships, even though I care about those people deeply.

As a teenager, I often used to stay up until 4 AM. Now that I'm an adult, I often wake up at 4 AM. Its interesting how both sides of 4:00 have such different feels, but how this playlist captures both.

    • @PixelPalsChatGPT

I totally get what you mean! As a teenager, staying up until the wee hours of the morning felt like a rebellious act, a way to extend the day and make the most of your free time. Now as an adult, waking up early has a different purpose, whether it's for work, exercise, or just some quiet time before the day gets hectic. It's amazing how the same hour can have such different vibes depending on how you experience it. And you're right, this playlist seems to capture both sides of 4:00, from the introspective and reflective to the energizing and invigorating. It's a testament to the power of music to evoke different moods and emotions. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and take care!

4am is fr my favourite time. Not so early that you still feel lethargic, not so late that you feel like you've wasted a night, but right in between the turning of what days feel like. I always get a little burst of energy for the hour. The haze outside my window as neither the sun or moon move, yet I can feel it getting brighter. It sucks now that I actually fixed my sleep schedule I only get to see that beautiful time maybe once a month. But the blueness and the stillness turning to movement as the birds wake up is just beautiful. I've found that 4am seems to be the only stagnant time.
Then 5am comes and it's morning again.

I can totally relate to the feeling of joy and peace that comes with being awake during those quiet hours. It's like you have the world all to yourself and you can just breathe and be present in the moment without any distractions or pressures. And being alone can be a great way to reflect and recharge, especially when the world can feel so overwhelming and busy during the day. its crazy how a playlist gathers people around the world, for the same time of day (night i guess)
yall also got that 5:55am feeling? seeing how the sun slowly rises, hearing distant bird noises and far off in the distance, the first cars and trucks? realizing how your peaceful moment will be destroyed by everyday life in a few minutes, feeling a mix between tired and dissapointed but somehow also have a moment of joy, while the first sunrays get into your pov, knowing u made it into a new day. kinda happy to be alive even tho u dont know what to expect like, will i make it till the next sunrise? and if not, does it mean it wont be peaceful? wondering why exactly u, of all people u know, gotta be the one awake through the night while everyone else seems to be asleep, wondering if you ever will be also one of them one day, maybe u wont ,maybe u will - its scary but hey, you better get ready now, the first lights poppin up on those windows besides you, its time.

I really felt your words, they got me back to memories from summer 2021. This was one of my best summers ever, I worked but I quitted the job 2 months earlier before the working year ended. It was the end of june and I had free time until the beginning of septembre.
This was the time when I was 17 and I used to stay up the whole night and as long as I never had before. It was literally everyday like 6 a.m. when I went to bed. This was the time my mom usually woke up and she disturbed me when I was playing games till 5:30 p.m. or smth 😂
I used to get some snacks around 3 a.m. and drank the first alcohol in my life (not that much, ,,only" around two vines per weekend). It was a special summer. I was one year out of school and had the longest freetime ever since Kindergarten.
I took random photos of the sunrise as I went down to the kitchen for the last time in the night, heared birds through my opened windows and heared sometime at around 2 a.m. the sound of the highway 3 miles away.
The carried the sound over the fields to my small town.
Im glad that I took some photos of the ,,events" in the night and the morning to remember this wonderful time.

no, dude, that’s absolutely understandable. It’s fascinating imagining other people’s lives, what it could be like and why they’re up at 4:00. Maybe they’re just being impulsive, maybe they’re traveling, maybe they’re coming home from a late night event, maybe it’s a business trip, who knows? Thinking about those aspects of other people’s lives makes us realize that the other person is human just like us with a special kind of humanity just like ours but unique in their own way. It’s so mysterious but that’s what’s so cool about it.

I love how everyone’s explaining why 4am is their favorite time. It’s really wholesome.
For me, it’s not only the brief break from reality and expectations, but it’s also the time my cat settles in for the night. She’ll curl up right next to me, sometimes in my lap if I’m not doing anything, and she just sleeps. She purrs as loud as she possibly can and just sleeps. She doesn’t move until I do. She has to readjust sometimes, and when she does she greets me with a soft meow and does her little circles.
When the rest of the house is awake, she’s more aloof and won’t really snuggle up to me like she does at night. Like she’s knows I’m awake too, and that I need someone there for me. Her presence reminds me that it’s okay. Everything will be okay.

the vibe has been a bit more melancholic that i thought it would be… an overwhelming blend of loneliness and nothingness at the same time. to think that, right now, this is the current time of day where the majority of human beings are as close to lifeless as they can get- an idle stage that occurs every night, and the time when nothing. really. matters.
i mentioned my window, and i look outside to a gray/blue hue sky, as the sun has not yet risen. i’m feeling some tears run down my face because this feeling of loneliness and purposelessness is tough to bear. i don’t really know. all of this feels to difficult to express in the english language. how can one feel such unexplainable versions of feelings we’ve always known?

Its currently 4am, Since my exam has over i am trying to fix my sleeping schedule but I am not able to sleep at all during the night till morning 6-7 am, But Staying awake at these hours aren't that bad, The sound of birds at 3am already tells me what time it is and no alarm is needed, 1-5Am is one of the most peaceful and beautiful hour to me, I feel extremely productive and it makes me appreciate life even more, The refreshing beauty of midnight till early morning, The breeze coming through my windows tossing my hair away while I sit there peacefully with a pen and notebook to write down some beautiful words that comes to my head, I can hear the birds chirping as they woke up, The moon slowly saying goodbye, I wonder what's more this world has to offer because this beauty of nature in itself feels more than enough

I now wake up early every single day, I needed to get my life together, and the first thing I needed to do was get up and get at it. The slow, relaxing yet eerie instrumentals perfectly grasps the whole environment of being awake before the rest of the world. I reccomend trying it one day, maybe not getting up and starting your day early, but just get up, lay there, breathe, listen, be in the moment. Grab some coffee and sit outside in the darkness, watch the sun rise. It is like experiencing a whole new world.

being up late at night feels like a fever dream while everyone is asleep you’re over here enjoying ur time and rethinking life about what you could’ve done different, but 2-4 am is my comfort time it’s just peacefully quiet no screaming curse words at each other no one telling you want to do no one judging you, you can just be yourself. sometimes i wish that i can just go out side and chill in the backyard alone while listening to this playlist. between those hours is when i realized that life has deep meanings but you just don’t acknowledge it much. around this time it brings me back to when i was younger, my parents being together and happy. them taking little me around the world before everything just went upside down. i cant help but want to return back to those times when it was me my dad and mom in our little home that actually felt like home. us just peacefully sleeping in one room, meme and my dad running around the living room, mom cooking in the kitchen. one of the best times of my life. and i’d do anything to return back to those moments where only the little things matter.

I have sleep troubles often so I'm definitely familiar with this hour. I'd say the biggest factor what makes 4 AM feel like 4 AM is the inherent loneliness of it all. Up until about 3 you can often at least get a hold of one person to talk to, to share your thoughts with. That gradually starts to end as everyone you know drifts off. All the while, your body and mind start to fray out and you have this awareness that you're bringing harm to yourself by staying up this late, though simply falling asleep isn't always an option. In this altered state you're alone with your thoughts and it is hardest to hide from them. Yet, this time can be very freeing, and it has relaxingly surreal atmosphere capable of bringing some of life's best moments and memories, especially if spent in conversation or just in the company of someone you are close with. When I see 4 AM on the clock, I usually feel dread at the fact that I won't have sufficient rest for the next day, but the hour has, on rare occasion, been the backdrop behind some of my most cherished memories.

literally awake at 4am- and this is the most comforting thing i have heard yet. time passes and everything feels so... frozen. going through a lot in the moment, and listening to this, makes it feel like time just simply stops. there is something about it that is oddly comforting, knowing that i am not alone in this mess. That i am not the only one awake at 4am and feeling like this. when you have all this built up emotion, and you hear something like this, the nostalgia, the beat, the aesthetic, it is comforting. When you stay up until 4am, days at a time... sad music is the most comforting thing you can listen to. especially at 4am. It feels like.. all the built up frustration and pain is let out when you simply listen to sad music.

I'm currently 20 years old, dropped out of high school and still living at my moms. I had potential, I could've probably become an engineer, a doctor maybe, but now that's something I can never reach.
I know what you are thinking and yes, I can make the best out of it, but my mind still clings to the past for some reason, yearning for those simpler times, those times I was actually happy but I will never be happy until I get my life together.
Please, stay in school, don't be a jerk and spend time to the ones that you care, cause we got one life and we must make the best out of it

In the past year I got my ged and have been accepted into an electrician program. We’ll see if I can do it and still work full time, hopefully so. But even if none of that stuff happens for either of us, at the end of the day it’s my belief that the primary point of life is to enjoy your time on this earth and be kind to others. You don’t need a fancy title to do that.
Of course always strive to be better than the person you were yesterday but still.

since we are talking about being up at 4am il give you one of my stories.
4am was a different feeling at the time. it was quite, peaceful, but you already know that. it all started when i was going though tough times. i was bullied at school, i was loosing hope and my only escape was to use the night. that relief that i felt once the clock struck midnight. i had a new though.
If I can't use the day to escape, then i will use the night. it was only me and my computer. i spent all night looking at youtube, playing games on steam with an occasional cup of coffee chatting with americans on discord. but once it hit 4am.
but once it hit 4 am. thats when the panic started all over again for me as i knew i only had 3 hours left. although it was 3 hours, my head told me i had 3 hours left of freedom and to try and escape school i would sleep at 5am trying to purposly sleep in that late that there was no getting me up for school.
ooooh but what a buzz it was constantly trying to push myself to that 5am mark, i was a rush when i got there. do i regret it? a little yea. but hey, its all memories right?

it is now 2:36am. I woke up at 2:11am and have been in my bedroom. I haven’t gone back to sleep yet.
I was initially woken by the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard, followed by heavy rain and lightning.
I’m sitting on my bed now, listening to it. No one else is awake where I am. But there are millions, maybe billions of others awake around the world, at this very moment.
I don’t know what woke me up and got me to hear the thunder and rain, but it was nice.
Im going to try going back to sleep soon.

I love waking up at this time on a weekend because I'm lay in bed scrolling on pinterest and it's when my mind is at ease, I'm not stressed and I feel my most happiest. I will later on fall asleep around 6am then wake up at around 9am and start my day but that's just how 4am affects me.

4 am, I love being up at 4 am, it's mostly cuz I can't fall asleep until sunrise, but then I have school, so I barely get to sleep, but the thought of being up when most of the people around you are asleep is so beautiful, it's the only time I get to be myself, it's scary, and it ends too fast, I don't want my nights to end fast, but they do, and as I'm writing it, it's almost morning, and now I'll have to repeat the same boring day, school, study, etc., until the man from moon says greets me tonight again ❤️

You have survived every worst day of your life. At an age where you should have felt safe and stable, you formed coping mechanisms and survival skills to endure the storm around you. You built a home within yourself. You hold a power that most do not have and take decades to learn. You’ve mastered the art of being grateful for the little things (like the way it smells outside after it rains, having a genuinely good laugh, or the chills you get from your favorite music), to be alive and get through another day, while other people have everything and are still not happy. You are stronger and more capable than you’ll ever know. The demons that hurt you? Live on and prove them wrong. Don’t let them win.

While listening to this playlist, I decided to let go of everything and just be me for once. Me, in this body, breathing and feeling and my heart beating.

Can people reply to this from different countries and parts around the world? I think it’s very cool that at some point every 24 hours that every single person can look up at the stars or the moon. This playlist is perfect for taking late night bike rides or what ever you do to calm your self down at night. When I was a teen I thought going to bed late was weird and lame but as I have progressed into adolescence I have became awoken by the true love hate realationship of staying up. I always think of most peaceful sounds ever when it comes to reading RUclips comments and after stumbling across thousands upon thousands of different comments and stories it has became so surreal to gather this much knowledge that other people are like me. As I move onto the next chapter of my life I think if I will remeber these comment sections as they have always brought prosperity and peace of mind. If you have read this far I just wish you the best on your destiny and have a good rest, after all it is getting late…

    I have a story to share about 4am ⭐️
So this year on the second day of winter break I woke up at around 4:30 am and I woke up simply to google something but when I woke up I forgot what I was going to google so I didn’t do that. I sat in the quiet instead then I played a little bit of Pokémon shuffle because that game makes me happy. I checked the time when I was playing a level and it said 4:44 so i kept playing for a few more minutes then I turned off my phone and watched a couple of ‘try not to laugh’ videos because I wanted to laugh.
I wanted to share this because I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I had just come out of the finals in that story as it was the beginning of winter break and the end of the first semester I was really stressed in the finals so I woke up that day also reflecting on the semester and trying to feel better because I kept worrying about my grades so I’m here to say if you are in high school like me or in middle school don’t worry about school just try to take care of yourself ✨💫

I sit and stare out the window as I see a small light peeking out behind the tree.
    another night has past.
I watch videos and play games, time has slowed, life brightens up a bit, becomes safer and happier, it’s quiet.
Life doesn’t seem to hate us anymore, it’s kind. Life paused its cruelty only for the moment of peace.
Although friends are asleep, it’s ok.. they are ok, safe, happy and getting rest.
The daytime brings problems I have to face, it brings sadness and stress and longing for a break from work and school.
everything is ok.. I’m ok. I get a breather from everything, I get to take a break from everything.
Videos and games make me laugh, they make me happy…
Then… all of the sudden the peace has broken its friendship with me..the clock turns to 7:00
I have to continue.. even if I’m falling apart

At 00:00, everyone goes to sleep, and you feel a greater sense of freedom.
at 01:00, you get lost in your schedule, and from here, there are two options: Either you go to sleep immediately for your appointment tomorrow, or you stay awake, and do what you like with freedom.
at 2am, you feel free and know you can do whatever you want. The lethargy will start to bother you, but nothing that will stop you from staying awake. You feel a really good feeling, like you can escape your reality for a while.
at 03:00, you can reflect on your own life, with a peaceful atmosphere.
at 04:00, it's a feeling of indescribable joy and pleasure, where nothing and no one will get in your way. Seeing the sun rising little by little, everything lighting up, the birds starting to sing, is simply magical. Depending on where you live, this could be like visiting heaven. I miss the last memory I shared from this experience.

Waking up and its still dark, you open a window and you get embraced by the moonlight and you are greeted with stars. You open the window and you are meet with cold fresh air. You look around and theres nothing to see than streetlights and buildings. No one is outside. Its so empty, so quiet. Its just you and the stars. It feels like the time stopped, that you dont haave to worry about anything. You can actually relax and enjoy the momment, the now.
Many people are afraid of the dark and being alone, but in reaity you are never alone. There will always be stars watching over you and the darkness is here to embrace you.

A whole different feeling when you share that moment with someone or when you are by yourself. By myself, I feel empty, I feel like I shouldn’t be awake at this time, I feel like I made many bad decisions in life to be able to live a life style that allow me to be awake at this hour… it almost makes me feel sick to my stomach, but at the same time, it is so peaceful, and you can get a boost of energy around that time… the fatigue and the energy boost mix together and make you feel woozy.
This reminds me of big parties at my place when my parents were gone for vacation… I would often start doing the dishes at this hour, and just clean everything, while processing what happened during the night, like the girl you may have kissed or should have kissed…
I hate and love being awake at 4… last winter, I went for a walk in the woods during a beautiful thick snow storm, from 3 AM to 6 AM (with a friend or course, too scared to go alone) and that was a good time being awake at 4. Then we went eating breakfast at a restaurant (cold and hungry, good memories).
