Remove remaining paint with razor blade and heat gun. Throughly wash and sand with 180 grit sandpaper. Spray 2 coats of two part epoxy primer. Wet sand with 400 or dry sand with 600. Spray two coats of base color. Spray two coats of 2 part automotive clear coat.
I’m in the process of restoring an older seadoo. Would you use the same spi epoxy, base, then clear on the hull as well or something different? I know it will hold up on the topside just not sure about the hull itself. If not, what would you suggest using? Great work!
@@mmgarage218 hey man thanks for the comment! Chances are your ski hull is gel coat top and bottom. Quality automotive paint would be fine either side. But I would recommend trying to use gel coat if possible for the bottom as it would be more durable. I honestly don’t have much gel coat experience I believe the difficulty is in matching the color. There’s a channel called today we wrench who does a lot of sea doo restos and has videos of gel coating. Definitely recommend checking him out he does quality work!
I am using quality automotive refinishing paint in this video. So the base coat blue color has a reducer that’s added to thin the paint and a catalyst to activate the paint(make it hard). The clear coat also has a catalyst/activator which makes a chemical reaction to make it harden. This makes for a much more shiny and durable finish and has much more UV resistance compared to a not activated paint.
Both the epoxy primer and clear coat used was from southern polyurethane www.southernpolyurethanes.com The base coat came from a local body shop that uses ppg fleet paint and was custom mixed.
Heck of a job man! Looks awesome!
Thanks dude! Sure appreciate it!

Thank you very much!
What was the clear liquid you added to the paint as you loaded the spray gun cup?

Awesome thank you for sharing this information.
Really really cool. What kind of sprayer do you have?
I used a hvlp sata 3000 with a 1.3 tip in this video. Thanks for the comment!
is it the 1.3 for all of them Basecoat,Primer, Clearcoat
Did u mix the clear coat and base paint??? What was the clear stuff u mixed with base pain
Nope. The basecoat did have its own activator and it was reduced with reducer as well. That’s what both clear things were mixed in the paint.
What did u use for the activator for clearcoat
The clear coat has its own specific activator to be used in the clear.
how long do you wait in between coats
Most cases 30 minutes
