Re: On The Way, Onew shared a lot of behind stories regarding the song and recording when he guested on DinDin’s Music High (you can find it on RUclips subbed by SHINee Space). This was the first track he recorded for Dice and also the one that took 5 hours~ he spent a lot of time adjusting his technique and the attention to detail really shows! I recommend watching the full interview/chat if you can.
the song is so sam kim. my 1st listen to this album i knew right away it was sam kim who did the melody. its really unlike anything jinki has done before so it seems like it would be hard for him to sing a song like this and adjust his singing. its my fav song on the album.
His stage name Onew is actually given to him by SM because of his voice. 온유 means soft and gentle in Korean. I love that you noticed that on On The Way!

Honestly even I never imagined I would ever hear a "I need a Cha Cha Beat Boy" on an "ONEW" track but man was I in for pleasant surprise. DICE on the whole is a Pleasant surprise and we're just glad all the hard work on this album paid off in such a good way.

I really think Dice was plan as type song of ´do not think too much jus vibe´ tittle track , as he has expressed on the interviews , he just wanted to share some simple fun , make people happy, and then as someone commented i think he really wanted to dance and sing real live (real real) and this song allow it for him. I love we have live versions of the songs to be honest , Sunshine with Akmu is like putting the cherry on the top , the harmonies omg... and on the way live is as nice as the recording version . I think it would have the title track if DICE will have not show later on the game , he deffinitly put a lot thinking on that song as it seems it was the first one he choosed, I love it and to be honest I will love/not mind new Onew album follow that line, more r&b mixed with wathever.

Onew recorded On the way for 5 hours straight (it usually takes him around 2 hours to record) because he’s such a perfectionist an it’s also the first song recorded for the album. In fact he even gifted fans with On the way recording behind the scene (actually he gifted fans with ALL of the tracks behind the scenes just bc fans said they like it, but On the way was the confirmed one that was funded by himself if I’m not wrong). If you watch the behind the scene video you’ll see how he works really hard for this song, no wonder it’s one of the best songs that came out this year.

I really love listening to you guys break down my favorite artists songs. I feel like I gain a whole new appreciation for their craft afterwards, and find little things about the songs that I didn't notice on my first few listens. I agree with what Kevin said. But, i also agree with Umu said, maybe Onew didn't belt his voice higher in falsetto or used his original voice to create this floating feeling to fit with the album.
As you started listening to "On the Way," I suddenly thought, "what are they gonna say at that part where the vocal melody goes higher on '(I want to) SEE you'?" - and that spot arrived and both of you said "Wow!"
On The Way is my favorite song on this mini album. It's so chill but upbeat and it highlights Onew's technical singing ability the best imo. It's so interesting throughout the entire song. So many layers not just in the track but in his vocal textures as well. It's just. So good. 💖

Kevin kind of keeps you on the edge of your seat and wondering which parts he'll like~ and Umu is just over there mini dancing and looking into the camera whenever she gets excited 10:40 so fun to watch! Indeed if we watch the behind recording of the album we see that ONEW took such attention to his vocal interpretation and vocal layering. Signs of a true artist/ experienced vocalist and musician. I also always appreciate the classical music insights, although sometimes I feel lacking since it has been a while since I have brushed up on my musical theory. And many things that I havent learned yet, since I did not pursue a higher education in it. But it makes me want to pick up the books on it again.
