Hey Will! I saw your website, and got me really inspired, especially when you said that Jesus saved your life 8 years ago. I pray that someday I could talk to you online or somewhere. You do these things for His Glory! :D Thanks so much! God bless you!
Man, I am 43 years old, and a year ago I started to be interested in how to grow a RUclips channel, to be able to monetize it, that led me to discover SEO, and that led me to discover web page design, and that led me to discover graphic design. and here I am. My income in Sudameria does not allow me to pay for a degree, actually I have not even finished high school. And your videos explain super well, and things as obvious as these within the graphic design career are very useful for me. Sorry it's a long post, but I wanted to let you know the impact of your videos on the people who want to learn. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you take your time and knowledge to share it.
I do webdesign and managing a blog personally. In bottom line your video is the most practical way how just I need to follow up! Simple but practical. Thank you!!!
People who make these videos need to learn the difference between the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio. If you're using 1.618, that's the golden ratio. The Fibonacci sequence is 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21... The sequence is used to calculate the golden ratio since the division of each number and it's previous number approaches the golden ratio as you go further on in the sequence. The only true Fibonacci thing you did was the "spiral" of boxes you built. Just stick to saying "golden ratio", and you'll be right 90% of the time.
I just have a question, some designers using golden ratio after they create the logo, to make sure the proportions is correct, other use it before which i assume the right way to do it :D, but is it acceptable to use it either ways? I have seen famous designers do so, what do you think? :)
Hi I am an Architect and I am trying to start using the golden rectangle as a tool to arrange my facades. In addition I am redesigning my Resume and I would like to use the golden rectangle to have it be as proportional as possible, the question is is there a standard golden rectangle that everything is applied to or can I CREATE a Golden rectangle suited for lets say at 8.5x11 standard sheet of paper where my resume is created on? It may be a vague question on my part but please advise.
The small numbers of the Fibonacci sequence that you used for the rectangles do no quite have the golden ratio (1.618033989...). 3/2 =1.5; 5/3 = 1.666; 8/5 = 1.6. With bigger ones it gets much better: 144/89 = 1.617977..., 233/144 = 1.608055...; 377/233 = 1.618025...
Many people thinks that Fibonacci's sequence is built using Golden Ratio, but it is not! Fibonacci starts with 0, 1, 1 then 2, 3, 5... and if you multiply 3 x 1,618 it is 4,854 and not 5. So, Fibonacci's sequence approximates to a Gold Ratio but its not precisely at it...
Hey Will, Thanks for sharing wonderful tips. I have a doubt, is we need to place the important content in that golden ration boxes. How can i use this golden ratio for lots of text.
This is incredibly helpful. I've always imagined there was some secret "golden something or other" REAL designers understood. I feel like a kid who just figured out phonics. Thanks and God bless! :D
Just checked - Target's logo doesn't actually confirm to the golden ratio. It does confirm to design principles though, in that the line weights feel the same. It feels good divided by 1.618 though!
Is this RH. Faction out of blainville? Having googled it I cant believe how much they've mucked up the logo(not mentioning how horrible their website is). Anyways best logo tutorials Ive seen!
+Alex Goodman - it's a completely arbitrary ratio that people think is some de facto design standard or rule. It is totally meaningless and it's actually sad to see people spending time making it out of Fibonacci squares and making golden spirals and stuff. Talk to any really pro level designer, trust me, they are not doing it. Yes, there are some really basic compositional rules that CAN make a design look good, and if you WANT to use the golden spiral because you perceive it's helping you, then fine, but all of these ratios and relationships are just as arbitrary as each other. At the end of the day you need to develop an eye
That's basically what he said in the video, but without being rude. Its just for design consistency. I personally like to multiply by a ratio of i. Really brings out my imagination.
Hey guys! Thanks for watching! Remember to like and subscribe if you like the video :)

I'm am outdoor living and landscape designer and use it for creating plant groupings, laying out patio space etc. It's an amazing tool!

Thank you so much for your kind help. Always great videos from the channel.
Finally, I have been waiting for this tutorial.
Thanks Will 👌🏾

Thx
A new trick to explain to client. They need to hear big words and believe it. Haha
The skills from this video helped me a lot in my overall composition
Very valuable content. Thank you!!!
Hey Will, awesome video !
Could you explain what you meant here 2:02?
In relation to logo size/typography size and the distance between the two
i want to understand it better too , it's really important
@@abroucha100 I think what he meant is that he used the size of the "text" and divided it by "1.618" to get the size of the icon.
Love this! I've been wanting to improve my composition skills; and this hit the nail on the head. Thanks!

Amazing . I am a new fan now
Thanks for the tip! Would be great if you could somehow show the keyboard shortcuts that you use on the video
Thank you!!!! New subscriber here. Your videos are helping me so much

This video really helped me, thank you!
Loved this video! Can you please tell a little about how to proportion the logo icon and type?
Will, you and gary vee are my inspirations. I love you guys so much!
Thanks for this valuable knowledge
Great! Thank you

Great post. A real eye opener. Thanks
Many people thinks that Fibonacci's sequence is built using Golden Ratio, but it is not!
Fibonacci starts with 0, 1, 1 then 2, 3, 5... and if you multiply 3 x 1,618 it is 4,854 and not 5.
So, Fibonacci's sequence approximates to a Gold Ratio but its not precisely at it...
you are doing pretty cool and inspiring work ! Thanks for sharing with us
Love these videos keep up the good work bro!
I would like to see the practical application of the golden ratio on the size of a business card
Hey Will, Thanks for sharing wonderful tips. I have a doubt, is we need to place the important content in that golden ration boxes.
How can i use this golden ratio for lots of text.
You just earned a new subscriber good Sir!
Hey Will!
Love the videos! I am currently a graphic design student and wanted to know how you got started. What was your process?
That was a great explanation, good sir. I learnt a lot. Thanks :)
Excellent work!
This helped so much!
Thank you. great video, why did your second guess yourself at the end?
thanks
So is Fib and the golden ratio the same thing?
Great stuff, bro!
very nice
Graphic designers be like: "Just multiply everything by 1.618" whalla! Graphic Design.
How much does adobe illustrator cost?
TMPEcho Your body a leg and two kidneys
Do you know the thing called "Google"?
SweBass haha
10$ a month or you can crack it (not recommended but it does work.)
It does work, just think thirds, two thirds to one third.
This is incredibly helpful. I've always imagined there was some secret "golden something or other" REAL designers understood. I feel like a kid who just figured out phonics. Thanks and God bless! :D
The golden ratio is bullshit. It doesn't mean anything. Don't fall for it.
Sweet! thanks for this tutorial. :)
I`m new 🙋 great videos!!
14.562 rounds to 15, not 14
So that's how Target came up whit its logo.
exactly lol
Just checked - Target's logo doesn't actually confirm to the golden ratio. It does confirm to design principles though, in that the line weights feel the same. It feels good divided by 1.618 though!
What's the proportions of the file? I mean, the size
good idea
why not just make 500 x 500 circle and divide it by 1.618?
Is this RH. Faction out of blainville? Having googled it I cant believe how much they've mucked up the logo(not mentioning how horrible their website is). Anyways best logo tutorials Ive seen!
Thx m8
Bravo
Why does my 1.618 always get exstremly small? - cant divide it? - it gets like 1000% less than the normal-
Thanks!
Just make the initial circle a lot bigger and do it again taking into account that smaller numbers leave more room for error on illustrator...
use the golden rartio johnny

not working very precise. but still, good job with your videos.
Make a video on how to make a logo without the golden ratio. The golden ratio is not a law.
you can draw the logo yourself, for example, e sports team logo doesn't use the golden ratio
First
yes! Thanks bro :)
Will Paterson ur welcome! I LOVE your videos!!!
the golden ratio used in design is an absolute crock of shit
gregkrazanski Explain?
Thank you! It means nothing. There is no evidence it is any better than a different ratio.
Alex Goodman It's just arbitrary. People think it has magical powers or something, but it's not particularly special.
