- Itazura Na Kiss: Love in Tokyo (or: イタズラなKiss～Love in Tokyo) (aka Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo) is a 2013 Fuji TV Japanese television drama, starring Miki Honoka and Yuki Furukawa in the lead roles. It aired from March 29, 2013 to July 19, 2013 with a total of 16 episodes. In early October of 2013, it was announced on the official website of Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo that there is a green light for season 2.
It is based on the Japanese manga/anime Itazura Na Kiss written by Tada Kaoru. The Japanese series is the fifth television adaptation of the manga, following the Japanese Itazura Na Kiss in 1996, the Taiwanese It Started With a Kiss in 2005, its sequel They Kiss Again in 2007, and the Korean Playful Kiss in 2010.
Aihara Kotoko (Miki Honoka) isn't very intelligent, and lacks ability in school. She is in class F, the least smartest class in her grade. Despite this, she has been in love with the schools most handsome, and most intelligent guy, Irie Naoki (Furukawa Yuki) ever since she saw him give a speech at the high school entrance ceremony. In her third year of high school, she decides to write him a love letter, but is rejected instantly. She is crushed to see her love letter was not even looked at, and decides to give up on the jerk who rejected her without even reading it. On the same day, Kotoko's house is hit by a shooting star, and collapses. As it is being rebuilt, her dad gets a phone call from his long time friend, and is invited to stay with them. When she arrives at the house, she is in shock to see that this was the house of Irie Naoki, and his family. Although he shows a cold attitude, she realizes she cant help but love him. What will happen when fate takes over, and Kotoko's chance of winning Naoki's heart falls in her hands?

Kotoko Aihara is the main protagonist of the series. She has had a one sided love for the school's most popular boy since her freshman year of high school. Though shes not good in academics, She works hard to succeed. She only lives with her father, because her mother has already passed away. Although Naoki and his younger brother are cold to her, she is welcomed by his parents. Especially their mother, who at first sight falls in love with Kotoko. She feels Naoki hates her, and is slow to realizing that he is actually in love with her. She was the reason Naoki decided to go to collage, and the reason he wants to be a doctor. In the end, she wins his heart and he proposes to her, leaving her in shock.
*Yuki Furukawa as Naoki Irie
Irie Naoki is the smartest, and most handsome boy at Tonan High School. He is rumored to have an IQ of 200, and is very popular among the girls due to his intelligence and his looks. Despite being loved by almost all the girls in his school, he has no interest in the girls who pursue him. He at first is very cold to Kotoko, but warms up to her later in the story. He acts cool, and mean in front of Kotoko, leaving the impression that he hates her, but he is actually falling in love with her. Although he's a genius, he is also slow to realize that he loves Kotoko. He shows jealousy when he sees her with Kin-chan, but never expresses it until Kin-chan proposes to her. He then thinks she is in love with him, and decides he can finally let his feelings towards her out. Kotoko was the reason he wanted to attend college, and the reason he wanted to become a doctor.
*Yuki Yamada as Kinnosuke Ikezawa
Kinnosuke is Kotoko's good friend. He has a one sided love for Kotoko, and is willing to do anything for her. He is the only one in his class to not go to college due to low scores. He is upset about this, but later cheers up when Kotoko tells him that he can always find something he's good at, and not graduating means he can get a head start in the work field. This encourages him to work as a chef at her fathers restaurant. He has a hatred for Naoki due to the way he treats Kotoko, and his cold attitude toward her. When Kotoko and Irie get married, he is forced to give up, and admit defeat. Despite this, he warns Naoki that if he ever breaks her heart, he will still be there to wipe her tears, and always will be.

This Jdrama was somethin else. It’s been years but seeing a lot of people in these comments make me feel a lot better about my love for this show. I’m glad I’m not alone, I miss these two so much. Kotoko and Irie-kun, as well as the actors, Honoka and Yuki themselves. Their chemistry was beyond amazing. I enjoyed every single moment of the dorama and I gotta say, it’ll definitely remain as one of the best romance shows I’ve ever watched.
Of course I’ll be honest, I cringed so many times throughout the episodes, especially with Kotoko because there were a lot of cheesy scenes. Plus her character overreacted so much lol. Not to mention how clumsy and clueless she gets 24/7. I had to pause many times to actually get my shit together and watch it despite the second-hand embarrassment that was killing me. But well, she’s really really darn cute on the other hand and at same time, my personality is very similar to hers irl. Can’t blame her. I’d definitely want her as a friend if I had the chance too :) I also won’t deny the fact that I was pissed as hell with the first season because I felt like things were way too rushed. We didn’t get to see much of Naoki starting to actually fall for Kotoko. At least, from what I remember. And we can all agree on how much of an asshole he was when it came to treating her. So it pretty much shocked me when Naoki suddenly realised his feelings halfway through the last episode and legitimately confessed. Things happened so fast.
However, the 2nd season made things a thousand times better. It made the entire show worth to watch overall. It really went in-depth of how much the relationship between the two developed. Both Kotoko and Naoki have very contrasting personalities which made the two of them learn so much about each other. Kotoko matured and did so well in having a lot of patience for Naoki despite his cold attitude, and you could just tell how much she loved him. She put so much effort in the things she did for him and constantly was there whenever he needed her. No matter how many people even brought her down because they thought that she wasn’t good enough for him. She also became a lot more understanding throughout the fights they had. Naoki on the other hand, was able to discover feelings that he never got to experience before. Especially jealousy. He was about to understand his feelings better with his wife’s support, no matter how hard it is for him to express them which explains his shit personality in the very first season. No one was able to break and melt Naoki’s cold heart like Kotoko did. A lot of people may not see it because of the things he did in the past that genuinely hurt her, but if you really notice the little things, Naoki loved his wife just as much. If not, perhaps even more than Kotoko did. Just take a look at the amount of times Naoki watched over her as she fell asleep like holy crap, it’s really goddamn sweet. Let’s also remember the times where Naoki was never hesitant of introducing Kotoko as his wife. He was definitely proud of it. They’re both so lucky to have each other and they truly deserve the love they have for one another.
The two developed so much throughout the 2nd season and their moments together were beyond heartfelt and touching. I don’t even know how many times I had to pause and replay some scenes because of how much I smiled and screamed at them. On a side note, one of my favourites would be that scene where Kotoko gets hella drunk after dinner with her friends (along with Naoki’s) and she gets carried by him on the way home. She constantly kept calling out, ‘Irie-kun’ in her sleep while she was still on his back, then gave him a kiss on the cheek that made Naoki smile. Purely wholesome.
Both Honoka and Yuki did such a good job despite their 10 year age gap and you can really see how comfortable they were with each other in the videos behind the scenes. I could never picture anyone else taking both roles and man, I really hope that they would be able to work with each other again in the future.
This Jdrama really opened my eyes on some aspects of my life even though it was a simple lighthearted romcom. Whether it came to my aspirations for my own future or feeling hopeful about having someone to love like how both characters loved each other, it may sound pretty stupid because life really doesn’t get this easy but, it’s pretty amazing to think about. Before this I wasn’t even interested in having a family or kids because I was convinced that my future was dark. But Jdramas like these never fail to make me feel a lot better about myself. Whether I’ll be able to succeed with my dreams or not, it’s gonna be okay. At this point this dorama became my source of motivation for many things lol. It really does give you a serotonin boost each episode :)
Like almost everyone here, I also really wish that there was a 3rd season. I really wonder how their child ended up like, and perhaps how Yuki is doing in Junior High with Konomi. Perhaps even a movie would be good enough yk :P but it’s been years...and it really seems like there’s barely any hope but, I’m honestly really happy with how this entire show went either way. The ending really had me sobbing because of how happy they looked. Thinking about how they walked to school for the first time, with Naoki not even letting Kotoko less than 3m close to him, moving forward to 6-7 years later when they’re walking together with their own child. It’s been a long journey and this dorama will forever have a special place in my heart :)

This is definitely what I think of them both and the story, and the last line that you said was my most favorite line of the show, I also really hope there will be a season 3, if it's okay with them ofc :) Anyways I'm glad someone understands the characters and has the same opinion as mine, Mischievous Kiss/Itazura na Kiss will always be in my heart, and I'm really glad I took this show a shot, now it became the first romance jdrama I've watched!!!!

They always thought that this DRAMA is Korean. But the truth is, its a Japanese Drama. Most people mistook JDrama to KDrama, because of the site there watching. Haha. Well thats all i can say. BIg thumbs up to (Miki Honoka and Furukawa Yuki) for making this story INTERESTING. :).Watch also the sequel. it wont let you down.

@@ampata7130 yeah and for me, Yuki portrayed Naoki's subtle feeling the best amongst All versions. But I like the taiwanese one too but I just feel that Yuki expresses Naoki's thoughts and subtle love for Kotoko the very best. If you look into the detail, ever since episode 1 of season 1, you can see that Kotoko has an impact with our Naoki. And many things to see. Oh and there's a few scenes where Naoki himself expresses his thoughts and feelings from this season in season 2

This show never gets old for me even if some people think its to childish. To me i feel like i learned alot every time i watch the show.
