    Os anyone else a little bit overwhelmed by the new rhythms and strumming patterns!!! I struggle with it a lot, I’m so stuck on the island strum that every time I have to play something else I keep coming back to it. Just thought I’d share in case someone else out there is feeling the same way!!! We got this!!!! I haven’t posted hey oh but I’ve been practicing every day!!! I’m hoping I’ll be able to do these two before the end of the challenge!!! 💪

    • @11jokerchen11
      @11jokerchen11 5 лет назад +6

      I have exactly the same problem! During the Beatles challenge, at the end of Hey Jude when the strumming changes, whenever I try to play AND sing I just keep falling back into the Island strum even if I can strum the other strum forever without singing. I think we really do need a strumming challenge to hone this skill!

      Maria, even I get worried when teaching these because I think, "what if this is too scary and they leave my channel?" but I also know that no one grows in their comfort zone, so I have to push past the fear and head forward anyway. Think of what an awesome musician you'll be after you master these strums!

    • @thespas9678

      Bernadette Teaches Music well you don’t have to worry about me I’m not going anywhere, I always think how impossible I thought playing was before the 30 day challenge and then the Beatles challenge and I did them and I was able to overcome difficult things this is just one more....

    I really appreciate you focusing on rhythm, while I know I have a pretty good feeling for rhythm overall I hate having to focus on it and count along and use a metronome, but I know it's important too. You always know what to teach us!

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you so much, Luisa. I know that at one point we will be so good at rhythm and it will be such a natural part of our lessons, that we won't even notice. Just like the island strum was something out of our comfort zone at one point but is now a natural part of our classes.

      2. listen to the playalong again and this time clap when I strum

    Love this love song Ms.B. So pure and real heart hugging lyrics, such a beautiful gift to his muse. A sweet Soul singing song. I wonder how many people getting married on Valentine's will be playing this song? Best guess, all of them. Great teachings today (as always) Seeing the easy notes/chords in the description I thought cool, got this. Seeing the first strum pattern was a reminder, that yes, this is a challenge series so it balances out nicely.
    Love the three levels of strumming, we will grow our skills each time we come back to practice and play along with your video. After all this time I have just become aware of how your right hand is in constant motion only making contact with the strings based on the strumming pattern. I've been playing the patterns by ear and focusing on chords and chord changes. Now I need to be conscious of this constant motion thing as well. I guess it's a good thing that I can't sing so I don't need worry about singing and strumming together. :)

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  5 лет назад

      Yes!!! Our hand and our brain should constantly be thinking and feeling this subdivision of the beat. We feel the 1 2 3 4 almost naturally and now I want us all to get comfortable with the 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & and the best way to do that *(I think)* is to feel it in our strumming hand and to think about it while we play!

    Lovely demonstration of rhythm! I love that you used clapping as an example. If our hands can clap it then our hands can play it, just a matter of time and practice. :) I would love to see a strum challenge and maybe the last song of the challenge could be a mashup of songs with different rhythms and strums that we have to use! HAHA now that would be crazy but so much fun!!

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  5 лет назад

      "If our hands can clap it then our hands can play it" -I wholeheartedly agree! If our hands can clap it and feel it, we have internalized the rhythm and can strum it.
      This challenge definitely had the most variety in the strumming hand. I think most of the other challenges have really played it safe with the strumming. I'm thinking about how we could tie all of the songs together.

    Must practice the new strumming pattern slowly. I keep hitting the strings with my ghost strums. My 👻s are not stealthy enough. Thank you for the lesson in rhythm. I loved it ❤️ This along with days 7 and 8 will keep me busy for a bit. I have not even posted anything for day 3 in the challenge (still working on that one).

      Hi Charleen! 💛💛💛
      I had the same problem! Throughout the tutorial you can hear that I slipped in a few extra ghost strums!! Hahaha! The tutorials on this challenge have been posted with a bit more space between them to give people time to work on each song and not feel overwhelmed. Take your time ;)
