I know you guys just started but something in Minecraft is a mod called optifine, which you can also use to install shaders. If you guys are interested in making it extremely beautiful and much more interesting to look at. You should definitely look into it if you plan on continuing this as a series :-)
I am smarter than Jaw at this. Firstly he either doesn't know about the medieval weapons mod, or he forgot. But that's what you need to fight tougher mobs. Crystal is very strong and you don't need requirements to use it, also it is really easy to find in caves. Mob towers are a good way to stock up on EXP to level up your skills, press Y to open up skill menu (during the video he skipped these). Mining is important as ore can create a very good ring that gives infinite fire resistance, it might take awhile to get the ingredients but it's worth it. When fighting a Dragon only fight it at night cause it sleeps forever till morning, use a summoning staff to fight it because going near it yourself will wake it up. Nymphs spawn from flowers, and they drop flowers (use your smart brain to see where that is going). Even though you found a village this is good to mention, you can use plant string to make wool, you only need 36 plant fibre to make a bed. Stay away from water as things can jump out at you, and since it's dark underwater a lot of mobs spawn there.
