It's such a small line but "escape pods still working fine" just absolutely wrecks me. Like it seems so simple lyrically and in the way it's sung but there's SO MANY complicated emotions behind it, it's just devastating
idk how to really describe it but it feels like, in universe, Jonny D'Ville and the others wrote this song not just for Odette and Siegfried, but for Nastya and the Aurora as well. a song not only for these people they meet on their journey, but for their friend and their home
This song is not only very emotional because of the story it tells, but also because it was the last song before Death To The Mechanisms. It really has that air of "don't be sad because it's over, be happy that it happened".
I ALWAYS get chills when Toy Solider sings. The way it's voice sounds so fragile and always has a little bit of a waver to it, it really makes the way it sings special. It also just really goes with the way Odette's voice is electronic! The feedback and the waver go together beautifully.
This is all the reasons I love the Mechanisms. The stories are tragic, yes, but at the same time, there's always meaning. Character arcs don't just get thrown away, they conclude in ways that are beautiful in their brokenness. In this song, I have a strong mental image of Sigfried and the Odette turning on a dime and charging straight into the combined fleet, laughing and enjoying what little victory they can get, reveling in their last moments. Together. And I've cried EVERY SINGLE ONE of the dozen and a half times I've listened to this song. This band managed to weave a heartwrenching tale of love and loss and togetherness in five minutes and nine seconds, and they made it look easy. God help us if they ever decide to take over the world, because they'd probably make that look easy, too.
This is the last song I'm listening to before Death To The Mechanisms, in my weekend Mechs binge. I'm new to all this, and I don't want to face whatever is next. That's sure to upset me.
I’m also just finishing this and I almost cried realizing this was the last, the ending instrumental gave me mental end credits of the whole story with the mechanisms and I feel so much right now ouuughhhhhhgg I’m afraid and my heart hurts
Oh gods, this is the first time I've cried in a while. I only found The Mechanisms a few days ago, and I'm glad I did find it. Thank you so much for doing this for us.
i'm very very new to the mechanisms, was introduced to them through a wonderful friend of mine a few weeks ago, and this is the first song i ever listened to. it's become a comfort song for me now, it's really grounding and so heartbreakingly beautiful
With all the "Reminds me of Nastya and Aurora" comments I see on this I've now got a new mechs hc. (/pos btw I love seeing those comments and how more emotional it makes me feel about this song) So, for when at the end the song just keys out into melody( 4:10 ) Jonny holds a salute in honor of Nastya and after a key change( 4:21 ) he waves it out and puts his hand over his heart while holding back his tears so he doesn't break down.
Oh no, I misread Toy Soldier in the description as Gunpowder Tim somehow and I was expecting a voice like in Loki. I was so confused hearing Odette’s voice without a single comment gushing about Tim’s range before I realized that I recognized the singer with the high, delicate voice and she was NOT Gunpowder Tim.

oh you'll make me cry
siegfried: i'm in love with this ship
nastya: oof mood

Reminds me of Nastya and the Aurora. I wonder what she would've thought.
I like to imagine it was her that made Johnny remember this story and turn it into a song
@@overlorde7526 yall makin me cry omg
The lines about the escape pods always get me feeling some kind of way
I love how The Odette manages to say so much by just reading out statuses of the ship 💔😭
so heartbreaking
The escape pods very much feel like a subtext of "You don't have to die with me" "But I cant live without you"
One of my favourite mechs songs. I don't know why, but the upbeat bit at the end always makes me feel emotional.

Hey im doing the same thing 11 months in the future. Just wondering... how did that go?

My mind is speechless, I couldn't think of anything to say, I'm just sitting here silently feeling emotional
This is based on swan lake and its so obvious but I am stupid and just galaxy brained harder than I ever have

Introducing my friends to the Mechs and making this the first song I send them. I'm getting them all ready for the tragedy of all the other albums.

Catch me *hoping* for this ending a few hours before Magnus 200

WELL THEN
At what cost....
Jonny does have certain writing trends he loves to fall back on.
why is it have to be sad every time? goddammit Sims, I can't be crying over lesbians EVERY day.
but you will be
Jesus, that was emotional
This song is so tragically beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites
