For Warlords of Draenor you really need context sadly
"His Bro" was his son who traveled back in time and gave them the technology, like the wheel bomb thing, to defeat the big bad dude. He also changed their minds, not joining the big green dude, like they did in the original timeline.
Oh and the big fire scene was a big moment in Warcraft 3 where that Orc died, this time tho his son saved him
The Orcs here are the bad guys. They build "The Dark Portal", which existed since the game beginning that will lead to Azeroth, this cinamatic plays on another planet and they wanna invade ours. It's supposed to be a "oh fuck" moment xD

His blood was what Hellscream and the rest of the Orcs were to drink, giving them a demonic blood lust. And be used to invade Azeroth through the Dark Portal.
Of course this was foiled here with Hellscreams son Garrosh in the video

The warcraft pandas were in the original RTS games, mostly as a joke and not as fleshed out but they existed before kung fu panda
Some of the specifics and new lore added in mists are clearly inspired by the movie tho.
I remember a ton of negativity about the expansion at the time because of it being so light hearted and people thinking "kung fu pandas" were dumb. It's sort of funny as its one of the most loved expansions in hindsight (my personal favorite because the pvp gameplay was at its best imo) and the story was actually surprisingly dark (with a lot of warcrimes) despite the warm and almost comical exterior. Also the landscapes are undeniably beautiful even if I do like northrend more personally
Warlords of draenor is a time travel/AU which makes it really confusing lore wise especially to those who arent super familiar with the lore to begin with, a lot of fan service for fans of the old RTS games, the ending with the demon exploding is pretty much frame for frame taken from the WC3 orc campaign cinematic, except he dies there instead of being saved by his son (who went back in time). The Lords of War shorts are a different style but its super cool and badass showing the backstory of some of the characters in this expansion
The expansion is universally considered one of the worst times for the game sadly, a lot of potential but it was just basically left unfinished. You're right that there are good and bad orcs, but those are the og orcs that go bad (but in this alternate timeline they dont drink the demon blood...they just go bad on their own lmao)

The Pandaren April Fools was a 2002 April Fool joke that Blizzard put up on their site, posting the pandaren as the so-called "5th race" for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.
Kung Fu Panda was released in 2008.
Chen Stormstout was the first Pandaren playable in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne in 2003.
Mists of Pandaria was released in 2012.
The concept of the Pandaren came from Samwise Didier the art director for Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. The origin of the Pandaren was his.
"Well, it started off, you know, a bunch of years back when I had a daughter, right. And, when she was born, for Christmas I usually draw a picture for my family. Like a personal one. And so I did, for that picture, for some reason, I decided to do like a panda guy because, actually, also like "Samwise," "Panda" is my nickname because I'm kind of a big hairy bear dude, but I'm not very fearsome. So I got the nickname "Panda." So I drew a picture of a panda with a little panda cub on the shoulder and that was the picture for Christmas, that I gave to all my family. And "Oh, it's because he had a little kid. He's getting soft!" You know? Whatever. It's for the family. I had to do something that Grandma would like."

The second trailer, Warlods of Draenor, is very interesting. What the orcs offer them to drink is Demon's Blood, it is assumed that 35 years ago the Orcs accepted that "gift" from Mannoroth, the demon that appears in the trailer, and that Demon blood made them more violent and managed to dominate Draenor, the planet where they come from. But in the trailer that brown orc named Garrosh traveled to the past thanks to a time dragon (Kairozdormu, a member of the bronze flight, dragons in charge of "taking care of" the timelines), so he intercedes on behalf of his race, the pure orcs would not be corrupted by demon blood and change the history of their people; "they will not be slaves of demons, but they will be conquerors."

Grom Hellscream was one of the first orcs to invade Azeroth. They were enslaved after drinking the blood of Mannoroth (the big ass winged demon they fight). After the wars Grom eventually partners with Thrall and they go fight Mannoroth in the third game. During that fight Grom lands a killing blow but Mannoroth detonates resulting in his death. Thrall eventually hands over the Horde to his son Garrosh which could be best described as Stalin/Hitler-esque. In Warlords of Draenor they go back into the past to change time but still leads the Orcish horde to invade Azeroth.
It's important to note that the Orc and Draenei homeworld of Draenor got almost completely obliterated in the first two games. The first WoW expansion takes place in it's remains and you meet some of the characters who were trapped there.

The Warcraft Pandaren as a concept technically pre-dates Kung fu Panda. Although it wasn't a serious lore fixture until the World of Warcraft Expansion Mists of Pandaria. Which is why people were so harsh on the expansion. In hindsight most players agree the expansion was actually one of the most beloved and well thought out and paced ones.
One my favorite raids Throne of Thunder is in that expansion, the buildup and storyline for it are just so well done, tied into the quests and the lore of the area, brings in a race of trolls we hadn't heard from in a few expansions, had interesting encounters and mechanics. Just everything leading up to throne of thunder for me was 10/10, hasn't been done as well since.

A lot of people had an issue with pandaria when it came out due to its more silly tone at times and a really weird hatred for the pandaren race as a whole? I still don't recall where it came from as I have fond memories of pandaria as some of the more interesting storylines and landscapes that changed with each patch due to the progression of the story. The barrel he had on his back was actually booze as the character you saw was a reference to Chen stormstout a pandaren brewmaster who was a hero you played in warcraft 3 years prior.
Sadly I don't think we will ever see another warcraft movie... between blizzards decline and the flop of the first one. There was many issues with it from the rushed pacing as it should have been spread out into two or even a trilogy given the nuance and level of events across the first war arc. While I'd like to say it was a poor choose of starting point as there was more interesting and in depth stories they could have told like the arthas story I still pin it on their choice to mesh CGI and live action. Blizzard has one of the best cinematic teams in the gaming industry and has produced beautiful stuff for nearly two decades now why they didn't just do full CG with voiceover in the quality you saw in these cinematics baffles me.

I remember part of the hate pandarens got was from players who started in WoW, never played Warcraft, claiming they were making the game childish and happy by ripping off a "kid's movie", that being Kung Fu Panda.
Then as one would expect from the internet, misinformation spread and it turned into 3 ways: people who didn't know anything saying they are a rip off, people who knew pandarens from the RTS and, the majority, people who didn't care enough to be vocal (in fact, the last are always the vast majority of people in every controversy).
In the end, the players from the time literally grew up into their mid 20s and 30s and now many look fondly at the themes MoP explored, like the consequences of war and breaking the cycle of hatred.

The launch and rollout of Warlords of Draenor nearly scuttled the entire franchise. The end of Mists of Pandaria was a cliffhanger, with the Horde rebelling against Garrosh's genocidal conquest of Azeroth and him being arrested to stand trial. The trial, however, was not depicted in the game but rather in a separate novel people had to buy to see the true end of the expansion. But the novel also shows the plans of several other characters only hinted at in the game's events come to fruition, as they break Garrosh out of prison and send him back in time to before the events of the first RTS game ever occur (the 35 years ago bit). Unless you were one of the players who kept up with everything outside the game, when the trailer announcing Warlords came on and you see Garrosh reveal his face and toss his dad his axe, you had no idea how or why this alternate timeline you were going to play through even happened.
Then, when the game launched, it was plagued by technical issues (server crashes, massive login wait times, account errors, etc), incomplete or absent content advertised in its announcement, and negative response to mechanics central to the expansion's gameplay. They ended up cutting entire patches wroth of content that left multiple quest storylines unresolved or unexplained, putting all that cut time and effort into the next expansion so make sure the game that kept the studio thriving didn't fizzle out on the biggest mess in the game's history.
Mists of Pandaria was also the beginning of a new direction for World of Warcraft, because all subsequent expansions would be the result of events from the previous one. Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm were mostly self-contained stories that referenced past events, but from Mists onward it would be a continuous saga beginning right where the last one left off. This approach has continued to this very day and will be the direction until the last announced expansion releases in 2026/2028.

As a lot of other comments have said, Mists of Pandaria came out around the same time as Kung Fu Panda, give or take a year or so, and got a lot of hate for its themes, but it's been a part of the lore since Warcraft 3, which is much older, with Chen Stormstout being a playable character all the way since then.
As far as Warlords of Draenor goes, this is a a case of time travel. In the original timeline, Gul'dan successfully converts all the orcs to the demon's army, and if you remember the movie ... sets that plot into motion. However, after the events of MoP, the second brown orc here, Garrosh, goes back in time with the plan to create a "new Horde" unspoiled by the corruption of Gul'dan and the Legion. Cue this trailer, as the fel-elixer is discarded and the orcs rebel against the demon Mannoroth, though still planning to invade the world of Azeroth (aka Us) but with new technology.

The Pandaren were introduced to the Warcraft universe in 2002, but were mostly easter-eggs and side jokes at the time. Kung Fu Panda released in 2008. Mists of Pandaria, which was when we were finally given more of the Pandaren than little references and jokes, was in 2012. So I think there was a fair amount of inspiration going back and forth between the two.

  • @Exxyo

So basically a quick explanation about both expansions:
In MoP the Pandaria continent was discovered and the story develops with some hatred demons destroying the continent ot something like that and of course the "bad boss" from the expansion tried to use them but failed and was put in imprisonment.
As a result, some random Time Traveler dragon sended Garrosh (the bad boss who is the bald orc with the hood in the WoD video) to the past where he met his father and consequently made the Orcs refuse the "gift" (dark magic which makes them stronger but easier for the demons to control them) from the demons and basically didn't turned green-skinned in that timeline which is actually a pocket dimension.
I think I didn't left anything of great relevance.

  • @OriginalMokthol
    @OriginalMokthol Месяц назад +1

So, you do need a bit of context for the Warlords of Draenor cinematic. This is an altered timeline. 35 years ago, the Orcs originally drank the blood of Mannoroth (the big demon, his blood was the green liquid). Grom Hellscream (the orc who yelled "we will never be slaves") was the first orc to drink the blood back then. This made the orcs stronger but caused them to have an insatiable bloodlust. It also tied them to Mannoroth and kind of made them into slaves to him and the bloodlust. Years later, during the events of the game Warcraft 3, Grom faced off against Mannoroth and was able to kill him which freed the orcs.
Now, the orc who said "times change" in this cinematic, is an orc named Garrosh Hellscream (yes, that is Grom's son). He had become warchief of the horde, but was overthrown in the events of Mists of Pandaria. He escaped and managed to go back in time 35 years, which then lead to this cinematic.
Also that gateway at the end (when Grom says "but we will be conquerors"), that structure is the Dark Portal, the same one from the Warcraft movie and the same portal from the beginning of the Burning Crusade cinematic. It connects Draenor (the home world of the Orcs) to Azeroth.

    • @stephenschuetrumpf9983
      @stephenschuetrumpf9983 Месяц назад

Just a little more info: The blood of Mannoroth is also the source of the Orcs' green skin. All orcs that either drank or were descended from orcs that drank the blood developed green skin, indicating their "Fel" contamination. Even though Garrosh (the hooded figure at 9:28) was from the prime timeline, he was born BEFORE Grom drank the blood but did not drink it himself, so he didn't inherit the Fel.
Also, on the Dark Portal: Prior to the events of Warlords of Draenor, the Dark Portal connected to Outland, which IS Draenor after it was conquered by Gul'dan (the hooded orc at 8:23) and the Burning Legion (the demons). Following WoD, you can now use it to go to Draenor, which is the alternate timeline where Garrosh prevented the invasion.
Gul'dan's significance is that he was an extremely powerful Warlock. Basically a magic user that uses Fel / demonic magic, usually through contract with or enslavement of demons. Gul'dan (along with Medivh who was possessed by Sargeras at the time) were the ones that originally opened the Dark Portal to between Azeroth and Outland. (The events of the Warcraft movie). Gul'dan's purpose here was to create an army of Orcs (empowered and enslaved by the Fel blood) to allow the Burning Legion to invade Azeroth.

someone else may have said but iv not seen but the wod cinematic is an alternate timeline the orcs in the main timeline drank the blood of manaroth ( the big guy with the wings) for more power, which also turned their skin green due to corruption and the main orc grommash killed manaroth and freed them from the control while also dying in the process by getting hit by the explosion that garrosh (the bald hooded one) saved him from. TLDR its wow alternate/time travel. the bro saving his bro was actually the son saving his alternate timeline father.

Here's my Pitch. It wouldn't be hard to do. In fact, it would be ... (ahem) Super Easy, Barely An Inconvenience.
I have always said if they wanted to make the perfect WoW movie, just stitch together the best of the cinematics. Same goes for Starcraft.
They have fantastic well thought out stories and wonderful characters and massively deep lore to draw on that have been coming out for years now. That is such a deep pool of material. Give that to a filmmaker that loves the material and is a fan of the game and it cannot miss.
The WoW movie that came out a few years back had some grievous flaws. The main one being just throwing WoW toons into a standard issue generic cookie cutter fantasy Mad Libs storyline. There was little distinctive about that. The other was dumbing it down & simplifying it toooo much. There is such a rich lore and a remarkable wide variety of races, classes and locations, yet they limited themselves to a quick and easy Humans vs Orcs story.
If they had included even a few moments of the other races and classes, it would have created interest & captured people's imaginations. I know they cannot possibly include all of it in-depth in one movie. THAT IS WHY THEY NEED A GAME OF THRONES STYLE SERIES so they can organically develop the story slowly and carefully and allow us to get to know the characters naturally instead of a rushed shoehorned in backstory.
Ok, that all said, 2 very strong recommendations for your next round of cinematics. One: "Old Soldiers". Very heartfelt & touching. Which must be seen to understand the reference in the second one, the "The War Within Announce Cinematic". One of the most powerful damn bits of entertainment ever done - live OR animated. It is beyond stunning. The epically intense scene where Anduin draws on Thrall is so riveting, it makes me emotional every time I watch it. So realistic & strongly acted, you will forget you're watching animation.
I would say however, it would help a lot to know Anduin's backstory to get all the nuances, especially the horror of what he went through in the last expansion that put him in this state of mind.
    Looking forward to more. Thanks!

Your reactions are incredible! You always approach your subjects with such enthusiasm and willingness to “learn as you go”! Thanks for reacting to another of my obsessions!
I believe the "35 years ago" reference was to the in-game storyline, which is hugely complicated (in my opinion). Currently, there is a "limited time" expansion, called "WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria!" that I've been struggling my way through, trying to understand the new rewards system, for the past few weeks.
I've lost track of how many years I've been playing World of Warcraft, but the ONE thing that welded my loyalties to the game was when I discovered that the players' perspectives were synchronized in real time! I was in the midst of a flight from one city to another, when I suddenly saw a character that I knew was being played by a friend of mine. I sent him a hello and mentioned where I'd seen his toon... and he replied that he was JUST where I'd seen him! I was astounded by the complexity of the code that would be necessary to create such synchronicity! (My last experience with programming was centuries ago, when I was learning to write code in BASIC, so "back in my cave man days," you might say!)
The animation IS top tier, and some of the "hidden gems" of humor (such as those in the names of NPCs - Non-Player Characters) add pleasant surprises along the way. Though the game is not nearly as addictive as when advancing skill levels, etc required the aid of friendly players and/or "guildies," which stirred feelings of both cooperation and competition, it still holds my interest by the frequent addition of "expansions" and the ability to create playable characters of races that oftentimes had previously only been NPCs.
I've heard rumors that some kind of ability to... trade? between toons on different servers is on the horizon but, owing to my inability to have completed even ONE expansion (partly due to distractions from the planned course caused by my ADHD), I have opted to "learn the ropes" of whatever is coming ONLY when the need arises.

The problem with the movie. They took what otherwise could have been one of the longest running movie franchises in existence and made a fast cash grab that flopped. Taking what realistically has the setting and original cast of characters to rival that of the big fantasy genre movies and fumbling was one of the worst parts of 2016. The movie itself is not bad from a outside looking in perspective because you it does fantasy fairly well, but from someone whos played listened and watched these characters the movie gives you a tiny glimpse of the potential it actually had. Due to is lack of success I highly doubt they will ever actually do something like this again, the only hope is that microsoft sees an opening to use media like shows/movies to promote the game which is highly unlikely due to the games genre being less of a main stream for the modern teen audiences.
