    Just got one and loving it so far. The water tray helps with cleanup since grease drips into water and is held in suspension. Add a couple of drops of liquid detergent to help emulsify the grease. The lid gap is nothing; it comes from the drip tray being slightly smaller than the frame. It is a grill so the lid helps with splatter but is otherwise unnecessary; it isn't an oven. The fan takes care of the smoke, delivering it to the drip tray.

Also, since you state you’re an avid user of your grill, what’s your take on breaking this thing down to clean? Do you find it to be a bit cumbersome or a deterrent to using it? I use mine but just not with any frequency due to all the added steps. The only upside I see to using this thing is that I don’t smoke/smell up my house. I wish I had more to like about it.

    I bought one and had 2 dinners Korean BBQ style, meaning cutting the meat in smaller strips and lot of different vegetables, it works great, we had chicken, steak, bacon, shrimp, few kinds of mushrooms, zucchini, asparagus, green pepper, sweet potatoes, cabbage, egg plant...and a few more I forget, it was a lot fun sitting at the table and grilling and eating, and the food is always hot. We will try a sea food dinner this weekend

      I surmise you might be on to something there. Most, if not all of the reviews I’ve seen, in which the user cooked foods that had been sauced or marinated in something w/ high sugar content ALL smoked moderately to profusely. Thankfully, I’ve decided that doing such things is a no no for this grill in my house. So as stated in this video I’m not wowed by this piece in any way. There are uses for it for some folks, but not many for me. My take is that if you have a good kitchen hood or good central house fan this is not a necessity. Its not efficient to use this thing for individual meals do to the amount of steps required to clean it. I’d rather deal with a little smoke & wash one pan than to wash the lid, griddle, heat diffuser & water pan. Then you have to wipe out all of the condensation that collects throughout the unit. To many steps for too little reward IMHO. Thanks for stopping by & commenting!

      It’s all in the eye of the beholder. This review will in no way reflect an opinion shared by all. Just as your opinion I’m sure will not be either. While I agree that some folks will find everyday use for this item, most will not. I for one fall into the later category. Gadgets are made due to specific needs. This gadget serves a purpose & fulfills a hole in the market. But anyone with a good stove & hood or the ability to grill outside will tell you this product is somewhat irrelevant & creates more work in cleaning than food it can cook at any given time. Because I enjoy the ability to grill outside in any fashion that suites me, whenever I see fit. I simply cannot justify the space it occupies. Nor the amount of steps required to clean it. Not to mention the cost & the inability to use it in the event the power goes out. For some that may not be an issue. For me living in California where the lights go out all the time in the summer it’s a big deal. The same thing could be accomplished with a portable butane stove & grill pan with far less cleaning at less than half the amount spent on it. This product may work wonders for you & countless others, that’s just fine. But for those whom don’t share your opinion of the product, in all likelihood it’s because we don’t have the actual need this product intends to fulfill. So forgive me if this review of the product seemed below your excitement level of it. It’s just hard for me to get behind a product I have a hard time getting excited about & see little to no use for in my circumstance.

    Suggest reading the operation instructions first. Then wash the surfaces before using! The seal allows some air into the devise as the fan pulls the air/smoke into the
    area below the grill..
    Was surprised you didn't trim some of the fat off the meat?
    I have the HSN version 1500 watt . It came with the 2nd flat top grill. I think it has a better grilling surface than the unit you're using.

      I briefly glanced over the operating instructions, at least enough so to operate it. As noted in the video I already “took the liberty of washing down the cook surfaces” prior to use. As for trimming the meat, not entirely sure what I’d be trimming. You don’t pay what I paid for Compart Duroc pork rib chops & trim them. The are already trimmed & dry aged. As for the Wagyu same rules apply. I realize the ribbon was large but to cut that out means cutting off the spinalis or rib cap. Not happening, when I can simply cut around it & not consume it. Btw, great tip on the pam trick. I’ll have to give that one a try. Thanks for stopping by & watching!

    The reason why you’re getting the smell is because you did not re-wash all of your parts. Everything direct from the factory is going to have residue from the manufacturing process whether it be oil’s or any type of lubricant needed for the machinery to produce these parts. It does tell you in the instructions to pre-wash all the parts prior to use. Even your glass will have residue on it from manufacturing. Other than that I enjoyed your video thank you.

Other than wash the water pan, oil drip tray and grill tray, I actually can take the fan out, and carefully use folk to insert some wipes into the fan brades and clean the excess oil (when the fan sucking the smoke it leaves some oil and smell on the fan brades). And wash the entire the out frame in water also.

    Seems like a good indoor grill, but how is the clean up, sounds annoying especially with the heating elements below the grilling surface, I still prefer the updated foreman grill with removable grates, easy, just soak in a tub clean wipe down and done😎

    • @BigShticks
      @BigShticks  2 года назад +1

      I haven’t seen the new foreman & how it breaks down. As for this grill, the heating element fits into grooves on the underside of the grates. So the element never comes into contact with any food or fats. Because it’s smokeless, the trade off is a few extra parts for cleaning/wiping down. All in all, as stated, it’s an ok item for those whom can’t grill outdoors. It hasn’t wowed me in any way.

    • @BigShticks
      @BigShticks  Год назад +1

      If you’re cooking bone in skin on this going to be an issue. Simply because it’s going to take an eternity for it to reach a safe eating temp. However, if you go boneless skinless laid out in plastic wrap or ziplock bags & flatten them with a pan. The cook time goes down exponentially & it cooks evenly. People often don’t realize how hot an actual pan on the stove is. On high my pan can easily reach in excess of 600f. We simply say low, med low, med, med high & high. So cooking on something that gives an actual temp in numbers gives us fits because we don’t know the correlation. What I think happens in the grill is the fan probably steals the rising heat that would otherwise refract off of the lid. So you end up with heat coming from only one side & increasing the overall cook time similar to a pan with no lid. I do believe you can run the unit without the fan because it has a separate control. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for the review. We just got ours by UPS this Sunday, my Mom tried to test it out by making baked potatoes. First off, the house filled with a terrible burning plastic smell. Did that go away after the first use? or by the second or third time? I noticed a white dusting haze on the sides of the element housing part. Second question, have you tried making baked potatoes on it? If so, how did you do yours: in foil or without? oiled skins? for how long? Thanks! And God bless you working such long shifts as a nurse for both you and the patients in your care. In Jesus name, Amen.

    • @BigShticks
      @BigShticks  3 года назад +7

      So first, let’s address the smell. After the second cook on it, it was no longer an issue.
      Now let’s get to the elephant in the room. This appliance is a grill & not an oven. So baking potatoes is probably not it’s strong suite. If I had to guess what that white dusting was id say it’s the potatoes starch being carried by the radiant heat & smoke fan.

      I’ve had Foreman grills too. Smoked a bunch & cooked from both sides simultaneously. Definitely had its pros & cons. The one that bothered me the most was how the top side never seemed to make contact with the meat if the cut had a bone in it. The best feature was removable cook surfaces (top & bottom). As for this one. Like the Foreman, it too has pros & cons. I like the removable cook surface. But, there’s a bit to much to break down & clean after each cook for my taste (4 pieces). It cooks good though & I wish it got hotter than 450.
