I was lucky to meet Raquel (R.J.) at a book signing at the bookstore in which I toil. She is gracious and filled with compassionate humor. Not all writers reflect the tone of their books. She does. I am relieved that she seems adamant about not writing a sequel to "Wonder," which stands as it is. Its message is simple, oft-visited but always vital: We are who we are, not how we look. Be kind. Reach out. YOU MATTER.
So, I was assigned over the Summer to read Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. It was one of the best books I've read. I felt so much more understanding and feelings for a child like August with facial deformities. I absolutely LOVE this book. If anyone that has never read Auggie and Me after Wonder, I would recommend it. Auggie and Me was requested by my Reading teacher, and I'm glad I decided to get the book. Wonder is such a GREAT book!
I just started reading this book and man! I'm touched and heart broken just like Palacio. Kudos to her 👏🏼 I'm so happy that she wrote her experiences for us.
I read this book when I was really young then as I grew older I kept reading it and as I grew and kept reading I started to understand the book and the meaning behind it
R.J. Palacio was inspired to write "Wonder" after a personal experience where her son reacted with fear to a girl with a facial difference in a park. Feeling guilty for not handling the situation better, Palacio wanted to write a story that promotes kindness, empathy, and acceptance of diversity. The main character, Auggie, was born from this experience, and the book aims to encourage readers to treat others with respect and compassion.
I saw the movie I read the book and I cried so much. Every time I hear life's adventures I cry. I love you R.J Palacio I wish I could meet her but I cant, thank you for being part of the community. You are my biggest inspiration.
I love this book so much. I'm only 1/2 way through with my kids (3, 7, and 11). They have learned so much. Just listening to N Merchant and discussing how just one person can make such a big difference. Facing the world is tough but engaging the world when you are different feels impossible for so many people.
Wonder has changed my life because it taught me just beacause you look different from everyone else that doesn't mean your different love this book even though I'm not finished
I really wish this book would be turned into a movie. I haven't finished the book yet, but I would love to know what will happen at the end of the book. Seriously, if they made a movie out of it, I would feel so happy :( It's a nicely written book, with a great story, and I am saying that and I haven't even reached the end. GREAT BOOK !!
They recently optioned the motion picture rights to turn it into a movie. R. J. Palacio is even serving as producer apparently and is looking for "someone who doesn't just put on make up to look like August, but someone WHO IS August."
Mayari the Creep Yeah, I was at a book signing of hers at a local Borders in California several weeks ago and she was giving us the tabs on the movie that's in the works. :) You're welcome.
Summer Smith what? obviously you can't, it's a book...but if they turned it into a movie YES you would be able to see it if the creators decided to do so, the book even describes his face! all the book is basically about his struggle with the problem that afects his exterior look.
I just read it and loved it. I was bullied alot for being alive and having adhd. I loved how this book showed being diffrent and bullying and teachers and parents and everything
in my class, i am reading this book. the way she got inspired. was amazing! and i agree. I cant imagine how hard it must be to be a mother of August. this book is amazing! cant wait to read more!
rj this is maddy me and my class of recently finished the book wonder my teacher read it aloud and her name is mrs.robertson i loved the book wonder because it tauught a goog lesson about auggie and me and my whole class loved it i watched his video and i loved how i got o hear your voice in person instead of reading it out of a book i liked the lesson you taught it helped people be kinder to me than they usally have and i hope you read this and respond or if someone who knows her please tell her thankyou - maddy
i love every little bit of it. made the kinder and the kindest person in me come out in the open. thank u r.j.palacio! just one 'tiny' question. why was justin's chapters all in lower case? :D
Not to break your bubble but the exact reason why he wrote in lowercase was neither because it was a typo nor was it because he didn't care, it was because, R.J. Palacio, being a graphic designer as well, she learned to recognize fonts as not only letters of words but visual representations of other things. Justin is a musician and his thoughts flow and stream together rapidly, leaving no time for grammar and spelling. -Yes, I did a book report on this book. You're welcome in advance
Oh my god I love this book I mean I love it so much I im the only person in my class who understood it I mean they should make a secon one I mean sence I read that I thought for like awhile i said if I get the books that I like and I im more into I like reading more! I cant wait to read this I dont have faciel deformaties but I do have autism h.h.d o.c.d anxiety fnd seziures scholiosis fibromialgia and a rare condition called eagle syndrom so I know what its like to be differnt aswelll.
I really want to know how his face looks like I just started the book and I really want it to be a movie too I kind of cried when daisy died though :-( but I really like it
My teacher read this book in Read Aloud and I was the only one in my entire class who started crying when we finally ended the book. The moral to this book is pretty much important and it's a life lesson; beauty comes from the inside, not from the outside.
I litteraly read the book 34 times, and I can easily say it changed the way I look at the world, thank you so much to RJ Palacio for this

Dank951 oh, thank you ! This is such good news for me. Yes, I do believe that it is best to cast someone who has the same condition as August.
Mayari the Creep Yeah, I was at a book signing of hers at a local Borders in California several weeks ago and she was giving us the tabs on the movie that's in the works. :) You're welcome.
Yeah but you can't see his face remember
Summer Smith
what? obviously you can't, it's a book...but if they turned it into a movie YES you would be able to see it if the creators decided to do so, the book even describes his face! all the book is basically about his struggle with the problem that afects his exterior look.

i love every little bit of it. made the kinder and the kindest person in me come out in the open. thank u r.j.palacio!
just one 'tiny' question. why was justin's chapters all in lower case? :D
It was because, you know how teens don't really care about grammar? That's why it's like messed up, hope it helped :)
hahaha.. Actually, I just got curious why of all the chapters, only Justin's parts were in lower case. All small letters.
I thought it was like a typo
typo all Justin's parts! hahaha.. cute en funny
Not to break your bubble but the exact reason why he wrote in lowercase was neither because it was a typo nor was it because he didn't care, it was because, R.J.
