Amazing product! I'm glad to see active development and advancement on the AR Drone. If only I could program, I can think of endless Chassis additions that would use the USB to make it even more fun. Keep up the good work, and I'm anxious to see what you bring to the Android community.
This is a proof of concept, not a commercial project yet.
It's a nice little machine and it's an impressive try but people who want to explore the "drone" technology further on would probably go for a more expensive RC solution like the DJI's + a Sony NEX or Canon Mark II. Still great work and very fun little machine ready to work out of the box with a phone !

congrats on making it work, but I'd prefer more batterytime over more distance.
Near the end, the battery is at 19%, so roughly 500m to be able make it fly back aswell..
well this was just a kind of demonstration...you also have to have access to your own 4G base station for this to work, which is a little bit of hassle.
Hello, we never stated we don't care about Android. Parrot has many products running on Android OS. By the way, in this video the AR.Drone is piloted with an Android smartphone. Please stay tuned for news!

I'm beginning to wonder if I made a bad choice in quadcopters! : ( I bought a Parrot AR. Drone 2.0 w/an extra HD (1500) battery. I'm using my iPhone 4 to pilot it. I just seems so squirrely & unstable. Sometimes it doesn't hover smoothly, even indoors. I double-checked all of my settings, props, parts, etc. Both of my batteries run down in just a few minutes (under 10 minutes, for sure). I guess for $300.00, it's a decent "toy" to learn with...

Nice work and there's another 4G implementation of AR.Drone 2.0. Both are very good. Bell Labs is good in fugure and NSN is nice for LTE functionality understanding in my point of view.

How about you FIX the broken product you have now! What's with the battery performance going flat after a few minutes, the gauge calibration way off so far that it hits the low batt alarm 20% in to a flight, how about Android support that you stated you don't care about on the forum, how about the programmed flight mode that was described in the spring and never delivered - the list goes on!
Hmmm, we don't all have the option of building a mobile 4G base station. Hasn't this been done on domestic 4G yet?

Very intersting... But is possible to make the same test with the HSDPA or GSM connections?
cdma gsm are 3g connections and the latency is very high only 4g wimax or lte are fast enough for this
Would be awsome if you could expand the range. With the WI-FI i can only get some meters away before the wifi signal gets low. And i have even tested the signal. and it aint any good close. And you should get auto-land when out of range.
but will there come some easy ways to get longer range ?
There is a possible alternative to the expense of a 4G LTE station in a product from On-Ramp Wireless. They claim to have developed 45 mile WiFi device featuring low power consumption.
Better to build your own drone that has an onboard node.js web server(RaspberryPi + 3G or 4G dongle). Then you can connect to the drone from anywhere in the world using a web-browser/app and control it. It will fly any distance until it runs out of battery :)
It shouldn't lose cell coverage, if it does, it can just fallback and use GPS to return home.
How much in total is the budget to complete this task? We are trying to get increased range in an efficient way. Let me know. Thanks!

Hi, I am an ultra long range AR pilot using router/AP mod (WiFi) could do 450 meters (600m max) as routine in Hong Kong (You have subscribed my video channel on last month before). I noticed that the screen on your 4G cell phone was quite lagging comparing to mine at long range. Will it happen (lagging and latency) when the 4G LTE AR Drone version goes live using the commercial carriers someday?

well, you need a 4G LTE base station + antenna and the entire core station (minimun investment over 100'000$) for just perform a poor 1km ?
lol guys I can understand it was a test and in the future the 4g network will be over all the cities and can be interesting piloting ar drone over mobile operator network, but maybe if you want impress someone you need to look around and see what FPV/RC community already perform for distance (quad 4.6 km and plane 80 km video are on youtube/vimeo)

The only problem is who has the money to build a 4G LTE station. Another issue is the battery life of the AR Drone.

you need to improve range (like in this 4g video, but just use normal 4g networks) and battery life up to atleast 1h. then this product would be truly awesome. but with a 30m range and 10mins flight time its not worth 250€ imo.

Why not just connect the 4G dongle to a normal cell antenna, then you could have the range of the cell antenna, plus more if they overlap. It's nothing new, thats how I do it, with an android phone though, not a dongle.

REALLY? The battery lasted that long! Oh come on..... mine goes flat if I look at it!
Quit complaining about the life of the Battery. The battery technology can only support so much time right now. think about it. With a miniature remote controlled helicopter you get the same flight time if not less than with the AR.Drone, not to mention the drone is using 4 motors and a lot more sophistication. If you can think if a better way to get longer battery life at the same cost then invent it.

et bien voila ce q il me faut!!!!!!alors un iphone4 c a ma fait 120euro!+drone avec 2 batteries ce qui devrait ètre obligatoirement vendue avec!brfj en suis a 600euro!plus que 5000 ou 6000euro!et top mon drone vas volé a 1000mtre!!!non serieux ca fait des sous!bien que ce drone est absolument magnifique!et il me tarde de recevoir ma 3ème batterie est enfin la j irrai m amusé!non 12minute c est short!pour bien profité il faud bien 3/quart d h,1h de batterie!avec pause entre chaque changement!

4G base station... are you kidding me? that's is a lot of money spent only to reach 1 km range, with that money I'd better invest in a better equipment like a real quadcopter controlled by 2,4GHZ remote control + 5.8 ghz fpv. Don't get me wrong, I own an Ar. Drone, but it is a toy.
