    Great stuff today. I was one of the mischievous kids. Soaped winds, knocked over trash cans, TP the trees and egg stuff. I regret doing that stuff now. Thank You for sharing John!

    That Ciclite in the white bulb tester makes a really cool sci-fi table light. You should make another tester exactly the same as a permanent base for it.

    John we had the best times on Halloween in NJ as I’m sure you did! It was a free for all! Mischief Night was big, lots of TP and shaving cream! Sometimes some M-80’s taped to spray paint cans! 😳 Love the old light bulbs. Edison’s bulb is still burning bright. I grew up by his house in Caldwell NJ. I also worked as an electrician for many years. I love the old bulbs and electrical switches. Thanks for a great episode! 💡

    About 7 years ago I gave out Japanese mochi for Halloween and rarely get kids since (lol). Actually, the sad high crime rates are the cause I believe. And to the credit of shopping malls, they saw the need for a safe environment and created them (also providing an opportunity for moms and dads to get exposed Xmas shopping early).

    Thanks John, I was only saying to my wife yesterday there isn't much Jeopardy in Trick or Treat these days, we have delightful well mannered little people come round for sweets with their parents, which is great, but it definitely has changed !
    I just love that "Circlite" I was thinking the same it's like a UFO, such a cool design, all lighting is a sensual experience and so much more than purely practical, I too am slightly obsessed ! The bridge looks great, so well done for registering your views we all have a duty to do this as citizens and tax payers !

    I did a bunch of deployments with the Seabees and one of the traditions was i would bring back a fighting knife for my son. Drove my wife crazy but he ended up with a couple Kabars, some SOGs, and some foreign military ones. Germany had a PX in Kandahar and got a nice one there. Bundeswahr I think. That PAL was a diamond in the rough!

    As a young teen, me a few buddies threw eggs one Halloween. The local police were jailing kids throwing eggs (and call parents to come get them). This was the 60's. Anyway, we were loaded with eggs and the police turned down the street we walked on. We all ran toward a yard with hedge bushes along the front of their property to hide and not be found with eggs. We all dove over the hedges and a buddy grunted loudly. After everything was clear, we found that he dove head-first over the hedge directly into a big oak tree. That was the end of our night, and our buddy only had a big bruise on his head and a black eye. Crazy kid stuff, huh? Thanks.
    One more comment. I have a navigational light from an old bridge reconstruction when they were replaced. I mounted it on a special piece of wood and wired for 120v as a memento. The smallest wattage incandescent bulb I could purchase still was too bright to illuminate in my home due to how the glass was cut. Bright is not the word! It's been 15 years, and I am going to revisit changing to a very small output LED. It would be nice to see it glow again after many years guiding ships in the navigational channel past a bridge to the harbor.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  18 часов назад

      Yes! A small 1 watt LED would be awesome for that beacon. 😃👍

    I love seeing infrastructure like bridges lit up at night.
    I have a circlite fixture, taken down a long time ago. Am I the only one who does not get the x years of life out of my LED bulbs. I laugh at the rated several thousand hours of life on the packaging, but then some component burns out so they either die, or flicker and need to be replaced.
    Dave.

    When I hit high school I became the chaperone of younger cousins. The only ones that would bother little kids for their candy was kids in junior high. Soaping windows and toilet paper in trees was the major activity as well as smashing pumpkins. I would never smash one that could still be used. Now my father who was born in 1915 one year with friends took a neighbors buggy apart and reassembled it on the guys barn roof. Heck I would't let my kid on a barn roof without safety gear much less putting a buggy together or getting the pieces up there.😂

    Those older, more vintage pictures of trick or treaters are really cool. I dont recall the sock trick when I was a little kid back in the day. Sometimes someone would get a tree or house wrapped in toilet paper. Obsidian is also known as volcanic glass, and you are right -- it can be extremely sharp. Your lights are cool. A lighting engineer told me a long time ago that florescent bulbs would only be a transition to less. So I'm not surprised when I see older florescent shop fixtures at the flea markets. Led applications for automotive use have advanced by leaps and bounds. Just avoid the cheap Chinesium bulbs.

    In my garage is one of the original Circlites that my grandpa bought in the 1980s. Still works and still has the original bulb! When I grew up I bought a bunch of Circlites for my house, they never lasted more than a few months, and I switched back to incandescents...

    Hey John, you are so right about Halloween back then, it was like Lord of the Flies. Shaving cream, eggs, flour socks were the terrorist’s choice of the day and everyone was on their own, no parents. I really got a chuckle over your soy sauce story, that’s great. Great video on all the lights! I’ve been missing the past few tool meets as I’ve been busy, but will try to get to the next one. Hope all is well with you. Keep not buying tools 😉

    Hi Scoutcrafter those are cool lights. I have a lamp I guarantee you would love. my Neighbour worked for the CBC TV network they were closing down the local studio and were throwing out stuff, he brought home a stage light he even had a spare bulb. the light that thing gives off is incredible if that lamp could speak I am sure that provided the light for many TV shows its anyone's guess for how long. He moved away and couldn't take it with him he gave it to me. I could take pictures if you are interested where would I send them?
