I gotta say that it's getting extremely hard to justify paying over 1k for a flagship smartphone when these midrange devices, like the A53, that are sub $400 are just getting better and better.
Are there any sub $400 phones that have a screen size that's below 6.2 inches? I'm looking for a new phone for that price but they're all too damn big!
I know that a lot of people say that the A52 or A52s are better. However, the main advantage of the A53 is that it is a newer device and it will get 4 years of new Android versions and 5 years of security updates. Meanwhile, the A52 and A52s will only get 3 years of new Android versions and 4 years of security updates. Therefore, while the A52 and A52s should only get up to Android 14 (and security updates until around 2025), the A53 should go up to Android 16 (and security updates until around 2027) . This means that you get a bit more of longevity if you plan to keep your phone for quite a while.
5 yr software support means nothing if after a year and a half you're gonna smash this thing up against the wall because I guarantee you that Exynos chip will piss you off to no end. The A53 is probably OK as a backup or if you want to get away from the notch on the iPhone for a while. But even then I'd only buy it once it goes on clearance for around $199 at Best Buy eventually then use it off and on for a few months til inevitably a better midrange on clearance comes along.
Thanks for all the videos on this. I pre-ordered this and will have it this week to try out. i also got the navy kickstand case that looks like the same they sell for the S series phones. I'm not doubting that it will look more expensive in the case.
It can be noted that there's also the "RAM Plus" feature, that uses part of the 128 GB of internal memory as a "RAMdisk" or "paging file" to help support on top of the 6 GB of RAM. The default setting is 4 GB (6 GB RAM + 4 GB "RAM Plus") but it can be changed to 2 or 6 GB as well.
@@lazyfingrz if you can find an S21 FE on sale that would be much better. But this is good too. There's A52s actually which has Snapdragon 778 chipset which is more powerful but this phone will get 2 Android software updates more than the A52s so that's important.

If the latter, expect the battery in the A53 5G to last at least a little longer before a replacement is needed. And longer, still - this phone's battery has an 11% greater capacity, and its CPU/etc. is supposed to be more efficient; therefore, one could expect it to require substantially fewer charging events per year.
@@harvirubis6305 its outstanding. I recently drove 2 hours and 15 minutes, with mobile data on, power saver mode on and used GPS. Battery went from 100 to 72 when I got home.
@@Nedula007 I also just got mine few weeks ago... The battery is excellent for me... When I turn off the 120hz screen I can get up to 8 hrs and 30 mins screen on time.. When with 120hz it can last up to 7hrs (screen on time)... I only use it for tiktok youtube facebook and minimal gaming 😁

If u have lag stutter issues installing nova launcher takes care of most of it. Then using navigation bat instead gestures takes care of the rest. And scrolling higups normally can be fixed with changing to 60hrz instead 120. I hope samsung can straighten out their software but those changes will fix the lag for now. Mine runs great after installing nova and using navigation bar and 60hrz.
I’ve been trying to get a good deal on these a50 series phones for a while now. I just can’t see how the A53 is a significant upgrade over the a52. Do you think it’s a decent upgrade over the a52?
It's an upgrade but more miniscule than decent. In benchmarks it has been a slight difference in scores meaning no real difference in day to day task. The battery is 500MAH higher so not too crazy of a difference there, the headphone jack was also removed if you care about that. The only thing that makes this phone shine Over the a52 is the 4 years of OS upgrades. Edit: I should clarify that the a52s has slightly higher geekbench scores than the a53
IMHO if one already owns the A52 5G they’re better off sticking with it and waiting until the A54 5G is released, if Samsung’s naming conventions continue that is. Yes the A53 5G offers some enhancements, performance upgrades, over the A52 5G, yet unlikely to be all that noticeable in day-to-day use. Think the biggest upgrade is the 500 mAh extra capacity battery but that’ll depend on how efficient the Exynos processor is as to whether there’s a sizeable advantage here.
Looks like a decent phone. Do you believe it's comparable to the Google Pixel 5a as that's the same price as this? Which do you believe to be better of the 2? Do you believe the a53 is worth the $449? Maybe would be good to see a comparison of this one and the Pixel 5a if you have it 😁
It consistently scores better than the Pixel 5a in benchmarking tests. On the other hand, that phone doesn't have the One UI environment on top of the stock Android OS, nor does it have any of Samsung's less than stellar versions of the built in apps. So it's kind of a toss up. If you are most concerned with camera abilities, you *might* be happier with a Google device, as its camera software processing is said to still be noticeably better. I think the Apple iPhone SE is also said to be slightly better in this regard, too, although I couldn't swear to it. Samsung is supposedly going to provide OS updates for four years. And it has a memory card slot. Nice OLED display. But these things come with Samsung's somewhat moronic choices in hardware design. The volume rocker and power button are transposed - and that power button is only sort of a power button (it'll turn the device ON). They've purposely made the phone less comfortable to hold in the hand than the A51 5G (I haven't gotten my hands on the A52 5G, so I cannot speak of it). Et cetera. Hopefully, this model is made in a country other than China (Vietnam, maybe?). If so, that will be its best feature.
9:44 "Not great", but is that really true? Those scores are just numbers: the real test is if the phone feels smooth and apps open in a reasonable amount of time. Doesn't have to be instantaneous. I'm more sad that my carrier is only offering the 128GB/6GB RAM option...that 2GB of RAM loss definitely sucks, it means the phone is spending more time (and CPU) managing the memory. Coming from an S10E, this looks like the perfect upgrade (except for the missing headphone jack...whyyyyyy)

I just ordered this from my carrier Boost Mobile for $200, $250.00 off the retail price. I think the word "budget" is a misnomer . the A53 is budget in price only. For $200 I get a 5000 mAh battery, 128gb of storage, but as with all new phones, it comes loaded with bloat ware that you don't need, want & can't uninstall, so it's probably closer to 100 gb of storage, SD card slot for expandable memory, 6 gb of ram, 120ghz super amoled display, fingerprint sensor, face recognition, NFC, 4K video, 25w fast charging, Android 12 & UI 4.1 straight out the box, IP67 water resistance rating & although this is my first phone with no headphone jack, I've been using Bluetooth earbuds more & more and I purchased a 25w super fast charger from Amazon for $15.00 & it was a Samsung brick, not a knockoff as the same charger on Samsung's website was selling for $35.00. neither was a deal breaker, but the selling point for me was the guarantee of 4 more yrs of Android software updates taking me into 2026 with Android 16 & the cameras are great. Obviously it's not a flagship phone, but for $200 it rivals most phones that cost hundreds of dollars more. I just never felt the need to spend for a flagship phone as I'm not a social media professional, heavy gamer or a professional photographer. all my past Samsung phones were J & A series & I've never been disappointed. my current phone is the A20 which is 3 yrs old and still runs great & will continue to use with my A53. buy whatever you want be it flagship or moderately priced as long as it meets your needs & mine does.

Kevin been a long time viewer since before you had over 1k. My question is what you recommend for live streaming best quality and pictures with good battery life. Plus with 128 or high GB storage with SD card option. $200-500 price range so I can use a gimbal or small rig setup. Thanks

No thanks! The A52s would be a better option and cheaper anyways than this phone but I'll stick with my A71 5G for now until I hear more on the A73 since I like bigger screens. Apple doesn’t put weaker processors on their mid range iPhones (iPhone SE) they literally put their best chip inside them SE 1 got the A9, SE 2 A13, SE 3 A15

Really annoys me when youtubers lie because from first hand experience I recently got this phone & I dropped it a very short distance & it ended up cracking the screen so screen is not durable at all very good phone but defiantly a lie with the screen being durable because it isn't

You're the first reviewer saying it's smooth with no lags or glitches. Almost all other review speak of lags and a clear lack of the smoothness of the A52s. I'm not pointing a finger at you, but... How is that possible?
bro i think the a52s is way better people who buy budget phones will not care so much about the camera as long as it works, the a52s is faster noticeably and it is cheaper so yeah the new tech is good and getting 4 years of support is amazing though ngl
This is tough. On the one side I really want the A52s, but it won't work with my new carrier, so onto the A53, now it is worse in performance vs a 1 year old phone, but it has a bigger battery. For $1 more a month though, I can get an S21 FE 5g which has a stronger processor. Coming from an XCover pro though, I think the A53 will still be a big upgrade. Shame the XCover Pro 2 is also launching with Exynos though.
Snap dragon is for gaming, and samsung promised that exynos 1280 (the chip a53 uses) will get updated and optimised, it has been only 1 month of me using this phone and the updates have already significantly improved the phone!
No headphone 🎧 Jack. Major turn off. Many people aren't gonna buy this phone because of that. Maybe it's time to turn back to the A52 5G or something else. Samsung keeps adding then removing the headphone Jacks in upcoming releases and they're gonna lose a lot of sales for that.
I have a question... Is the haptic feedback the same as the a52 phones or is it improved? Because those phones had a very slow and unresponsive haptic motor, felt very cheap.

@@mattgwin3525 I'm pleasantly surprised with performance. I went into memory management and upped the virtual ram to 6gb and its so much faster and smoother now. As far as the back, nothing I case won't fix I guess lol.

1. It depends if the video you're watching supports 4k 2. Even tho you can stream 4k it doesn't mean that's what you're phone is actually displaying. The m32 just like the a53 has a 1080p resolution
Better than a52 4g, little bit better a52 5g (according to SAMSUNG web site) no match for the a52s 5g. The only advantage would be the longer software support for the a53. The a52`s would get up to Android 14, the a53 to Android 16.

My only issue with this phone is the processor. I have really bad luck with these phones slowing down after one year due to the processor being bad.

USB C is a plus not a minus. Lets you use a PC-style DAC to connect speakers or mic-headphone. Getting a Creative Labs Play4.

For $1 more a month though, I can get an S21 FE 5g which has a stronger processor. Coming from an XCover pro though, I think the A53 will still be a big upgrade. Shame the XCover Pro 2 is also launching with Exynos though.
They should make a snapdragon variant of the a53 5G. Snapdragon is always better than exynos.
I'm pretty sure the USA version has snapdragon. The one Kevin is reviewing is the international.

Snap dragon is for gaming, and samsung promised that exynos 1280 (the chip a53 uses) will get updated and optimised, it has been only 1 month of me using this phone and the updates have already significantly improved the phone!

Samsung keeps adding then removing the headphone Jacks in upcoming releases and they're gonna lose a lot of sales for that.

I have a question... Is the haptic feedback the same as the a52 phones or is it improved? Because those phones had a very slow and unresponsive haptic motor, felt very cheap.

A52 and A52s still rules!
The only downside is that they are older and only get 3 years of new Android versions. The A53 is newer and it will get 4 years of new Android versions. Therefore, while the A52 and A52s should only get up to Android 14, the A53 should go up to Android 16.
This is a great phone just bought it from Samsung Canada. But it isn't a two day battery I would say it is one day and a little more.

@@mattgwin3525 I'm pleasantly surprised with performance. I went into memory management and upped the virtual ram to 6gb and its so much faster and smoother now. As far as the back, nothing I case won't fix I guess lol.

It is a downgrade in terms of soc seriously samsung should've launched a53 with snapdragon 778g because a52s performs better than a53, exynos 1280 is 5nm yah i get that but performance is really poor 👎

Hi Kevin, I am able to play video in youtube with maximun 1080p in this phone. I was able to watch video in 4k in my galaxy m31 phone.
1. It depends if the video you're watching supports 4k
2. Even tho you can stream 4k it doesn't mean that's what you're phone is actually displaying. The m32 just like the a53 has a 1080p resolution

Better than a52 4g, little bit better a52 5g (according to SAMSUNG web site) no match for the a52s 5g. The only advantage would be the longer software support for the a53. The a52`s would get up to Android 14, the a53 to Android 16.
