Loved this episode. Of course, Palestine is known for the Texas State Railroad. Went there as a kid, and even ate at the Hamburger Bar then. It was good, for a 12 year old. But need to go back again to look at the museum and stroll through the historic district.

So when you walk in Reagan School at 2:38 my heart skips a beat or two. In the '60's, Palestine schools shuffled around due to the new PHS on the loop and integration. This building housed elementary kiddos grades 1-6 for several years. My sis was in the basement the first year and I was in Mrs. Thornell's 3/4th grade class at the bottom of the staircase behind you. No ceiling fans btw...
OH yeah... Before Adrian Peterson there was Bill Bradley, PHS quarterback on state champ team in 1964 who was NFL all pro with the Philly Eagles.

Many townships in the United States were named after Palestine in the 1800s. There's Palestine townships in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas. And of course Texas! It's very fascinating because these places just reinforce Palestine's deep and longstanding history--before Israel's colonization and occupation of Palestine.

I remember from my classes in the late '60's there that at least some of the folks who came here were from Palestine, Illinois. Of course we've all prayed for East Palestine OH and their chemical spill. I understand people naming places after the "old country" in Europe but I've neer understood the Palestine thing....

That waterfall is dangerous for diving. A man I met dove from there and ended up paralyzed. I grew up in Palestine and a lot of us spent time out there mucking around at Wolf Creek. In the 80's Upper and Lower lake were the best swimming holes. They'd be packed with families enjoying the water. Hydrilla took over the waters and now we just fish there a little bit. Palestine is a retirement town. It was ok to grow up there in the 80's and early 90's, but now I wouldn't live there again.

The streets of palestine are laid out in that fashion because it was actually 2 towns connected by Ave A and a street trolley during the time of John H Reagan. The trolley was too expensive at the time and was sold to a tiny town called "Dallas." My how times have changed. Also this episode does not actually count because you did not go to sheps Barbeque on Palestine Ave.
    You missed Palestine.

I would be VERY careful of eating here (Pint & Barrel), because I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning from a Swiss-Mushroom hamburger one Friday night Dec 2018 and it took me out for 3 days and then 3 more days. Never even bothered when I emailed the place to offer to either refund my money OR at least pay for a brand-new meal and guarantee it was cooked properly.

I see this was filmed in 2017, and COVID closed down the Hamburger bar in 2020. What a shame. Well, Chip's (known for their hamburgers) didn't make long after 2018, although I did have 2 great burgers there with a colleague and they earned their reputation.
