Now combine this with the jumping action of the "Sand Flea" robot, and program it with facial recognition, so it can jump onto people's faces from 100 feet away.
Comments like this make me glad youtube is worldwide, so I can be reassured that people who have ideas like this could be on the other side of the planet
This is really impressive. Like, seriously. Its movements are so smooth and perfect. I would absolutely love one. With only one "eye" it looks less intimidating than a real spider and somehow makes it look more expressive. Love this.
The only issue is the very limited battery life, I'm sure they've thought about it but with a smaller HD camera, I'd assume that would truly render it to only working for several minutes, if not less than the 30-50 minutes that it is supposed to run on a charge. If they add a capability to utilize lithium, that would probably help a lot... But if that's your choice, then you may as well mod it so you can replace the LED fake button with a camera anyways :D
Kole Koford the is true but they could use a camera from a smart phone and it doesn't have to HD it could be 480P since it will transmit video but ya you could mod it change stuff in it like Adam Savage did with a few of the servos and it is still in beta
This is the most awesomest thing I've ever seen such smooth movements of the legs and such great gyroscopic movements as well it is just amazing I want it!
From a lot of spider bots I've seen, they don't generally walk well, due to friction issues in the feet. An actual spider would intentionally grip and push off the ground, but the 'bots tend to just move through a preset macro of movements without "feeling its weight" or "grabbing the surface" as a factor.
I have arachnophobia and didn't feel good while watching this. But... it's impressed me. Its moves are so smooth. Good job guys. Congrats. Next time I want to see it running with maximum speed.
Akin Khoo Yeah, they've been improving the durability as the things have gotten cheaper to make. Eventually these things will probably be able to withstand a two-story drop and if that doesn't terrify you I don't know what would.
XD I had this muted and was listening to Lollipop by Aqua in the background and it looked like the spider was dancing along XD XD really impressive though!
********* amazing. The engineering of something like this in this size is unbelievable, and it is cheap for $1350. robitics are only just on the cusp of maybe becoming mainstream in a few years
Gladiator fights with live tarantulas, as a testament to the raw, primal combat skills of living organisms played against calculating robotic blood lust.
A little more flexible than the Tasmanian turtle of Seymour Papert's Day. It's nice to see progress, great work, and terrifically entertaining music video! Thanks, Ms. Riley
At first I thought it might be also, I think the makers of the video have done themselves a little bit of a disservice in that there is no one picking up the robot/other shots etc to establish it's authenticity. But watch the surface of the carpet respond to weight shift, loss of traction etc where the feet contact. If it's CGI carpet, then it's Weta Digital standard CGI carpet. I'm glad it is the real deal - a pretty amazing achievement from my perspective. But I do want to see it walk/run.
Very cool!:) That spider has some pretty good dance moves LOL. On a more serious note, a therapist can use this with patients who suffer from arachnophobia.
I hear there's a team working on some stuff that's the same stuff that lets geckos stick to walls. Put that on its feet and affix a small fire-arm on it and you have a terrifying robo force that will be able to get anywhere and take out anyone at anytime. It's terrifying, really.
exactly what i was thinking. something like this but on a bigger scale could be really usefull. and imagine how more awesome would be with some proper hydraulic systems. the ultimate offroad machine
with added technology i assume it would be capable of climbing some hard to traverse stuff. Seems like a good design for searching for life in ruins, or in military operations, asuming these motors would be very silent.
It's kinda creepy, but very cute at the same time. I could easily see this being some kind of intellegent robot pet/companion that could get stuff for you.
that is both cool and crazy. someone mentioned power source which is a good question and also the noise level of it as well. if i saw that in my garage id smash it with a shovel too.
I would love to see more videos of its movement capabilities-walking, turning while walking, perhaps varied speed while walking? Walking on different textures? Also, would be nice to see just how much knowledge/skill is required to assemble the kit. Maybe a video showing a few intermediate stages as it is assembled. What kind of battery life is possible? Is that a camera or just a cool little light? gotta know...so many questions...
I'm absolutely terrified of spiders, even watching this thing move as life-like as it does creeps me out. But that said I think it'd be something cool to try to get over my fear without the prospect of getting bit >.>
Why do half the people think this is fake? Micro robotics and 3d printers have come so far in recent years that this is certainly possible and is so. I want this, take my money.
Actually if you look closely at the carpet it is uneven. And it reacts in different areas as the spider pushes down on it which are not proximal to the spider. I doubt that was an intentional affect.

I like the way you think.
Aw, the little guy is actually adorable. (in my opinion at least.)
Same here

I always needed a robot cyclops spider in my life.
The part where it's looking around near the beginning is almost adorable.
Almost.
0:48 "grr im scary! fear me!" ~whirrr~
what would be cool is instead of the light in the front make it a wifi camera so you can use it with your iphone/android by an app

however there would be more peeping toms, watching neighbors
That is one of the coolest robotic spiders to date and the most realistic I really want one.
Came here after watching Adam Savage ;p
Slpk same
Slpk same
This is the most awesomest thing I've ever seen such smooth movements of the legs and such great gyroscopic movements as well it is just amazing I want it!
Fuck the robot, what I really care about is THAT SOFTWARE!!
Fuck the software... I'm into the hardware :)
Am I the only one that sees the true value of this? It encourages more people to make something even better for good!
I want that so bad
Possibly the greatest robot spider yoga workout video I have seen in the last week.
A spider that can do the worm...
From a lot of spider bots I've seen, they don't generally walk well, due to friction issues in the feet. An actual spider would intentionally grip and push off the ground, but the 'bots tend to just move through a preset macro of movements without "feeling its weight" or "grabbing the surface" as a factor.
its missing a camera
Wow, it's got so much personality! If I had the money, I'd definitely get one for myself.
But will it blend?
That is the question.
Colin Roberson
Ray William Jonson would ask "Can you f*ck it?"
I have arachnophobia and didn't feel good while watching this. But... it's impressed me. Its moves are so smooth. Good job guys. Congrats. Next time I want to see it running with maximum speed.
James Cameron should buy this and adapt it to the next Alien movie as face-huggers.
Face-huggers are the scariest enemy a movie or a game will ever have!
the franchise as a whole are the scariest movies ever made
Unfortunately the servos in the legs aren't nearly strong enough.
Akin Khoo Yeah, they've been improving the durability as the things have gotten cheaper to make. Eventually these things will probably be able to withstand a two-story drop and if that doesn't terrify you I don't know what would.
I did a pre-order for a deliver sometime in May. I AM FREAKING OUT WAITING TO GET IT !!
nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope
Awesome! That's the right design for the rover to not get stuck as the Spirit did )
awesome! now build one that's 10ft tall, with a couple Gatling cannons strapped to is head with its ass as the ammo feed.
thumb ^
why
Dale Z. Larmint I assume so that she can roll into the wild wild west.
cant believe how fluid it moves... never seen anything like it.
Shutup and take my money!
XD I had this muted and was listening to Lollipop by Aqua in the background and it looked like the spider was dancing along XD XD really impressive though!
Scaring the shit out of someone with it.. fun way to lose $500 when they boot it across the room :)
Worth it
********* amazing. The engineering of something like this in this size is unbelievable, and it is cheap for $1350. robitics are only just on the cusp of maybe becoming mainstream in a few years
NOPE!
He looks like he's doing little robot spider exercises!! So cute.
Why do people do this, we all know Skynet gonna take over, and who wants robotspiders attacking them?.
This is incredibily fascinating. I wish you guys would post more videos of this robot, especially how real turantulas would react to it.
When they can emerge from the printer fully assembled, with the power source and all the motors, I'll be duly impressed.
Gladiator fights with live tarantulas, as a testament to the raw, primal combat skills of living organisms played against calculating robotic blood lust.
It's amazing how much it moves like a real spider, I am just so impressed.
I feel like this is just animated very very well, it looks too perfect
That's really awesome.
Not sure if I should agree with the idea or be scared.
With that handsome smile on your face it's hard to tell.
A little more flexible than the Tasmanian turtle of Seymour Papert's Day. It's nice to see progress, great work, and terrifically entertaining music video!
Thanks,

This is off the hook crazily intelligent!
the motions are beautiful
This is the only spider I can see wanting to own, imagine programming it to act like a loyal companion and not to be creepy!
The carpet is a digital rendering, if you look closely in 1080p you can see it warping when the legs lift up.
Well I never thought I would want something like this for Christmas.
I can think of SO MANY uses for this robot... mostly involving unsuspecting people and a video camera. :) :) :)
Very cool!:) That spider has some pretty good dance moves LOL.
On a more serious note, a therapist can use this with patients who suffer from arachnophobia.
I NEED one of these. Imagine the fun.... and the fear.
even though they don't show it walking, I imagine it could move around, and it is quite the impressive piece of tech.
Amazing creation! has so much potential!
looked at the website. This thing is bigger than it looks. Has an impressive price tag too.
This is one of the most amazing things ive ever seen....wow. inspiring
put some fake skin and hair on that thing, and you got yourself a pet Tarantula! Might consider this as a pet, if prices drop
1:10
That spider sure knows how to get down.
Hands down the creepiest awesome tech I have seen this year.
Very impressive life like movements
Pretty awesome! kinda wanted to see this thing run forward :) Cheers!
I'm glad at how far we've come to making robots. Now I can officially scare the shit out of people with a life like spider that moves for real.
26 servos, 3D printed parts and a very nice inverse kinematics realtime calculation engine.
I guess that's why.
I hear there's a team working on some stuff that's the same stuff that lets geckos stick to walls. Put that on its feet and affix a small fire-arm on it and you have a terrifying robo force that will be able to get anywhere and take out anyone at anytime. It's terrifying, really.

Very nice packaging and range of motion.
I'd like to see how the actuators work.
It's kinda creepy, but very cute at the same time. I could easily see this being some kind of intellegent robot pet/companion that could get stuff for you.
I didn't know you could print robots! That,ms awesome!
The 9 foot crabs? Yea those things are freakin terrifying!
Nice... looks very realistic!!!
I will buy like 5. My roommate loses his shit when he sees spiders. These.. oh my god hahaha
Amazing fluid mobility
that is both cool and crazy. someone mentioned power source which is a good question and also the noise level of it as well. if i saw that in my garage id smash it with a shovel too.
This is what I want for Christmas
Ernes Titor !!!!!! Mirá chabon!!
That is sooo cool but waaay too creepy, good job!
I would love to see more videos of its movement capabilities-walking, turning while walking, perhaps varied speed while walking? Walking on different textures? 1:26 to 1:38 is hilariously well timed and awesome.
Love the dance it did at the end
love that threat pose
During the video, I gradually went from disturbed to impressed.
Is it weird that this made me cry of joy?
You can add photoreceptors and wire it like a Braitenberg vehicle and it'll respond to light in life-like manner.
These fucking new robots look organic, it's spooky. I like it.
OMGG !! This super robot spider really is totally *awesome* - it can even *twerk* !! LOL !!
I'm absolutely terrified of spiders, even watching this thing move as life-like as it does creeps me out. But that said I think it'd be something cool to try to get over my fear without the prospect of getting bit >.>
Reminds me of Dr. Syn's spy robot in Jonny Quest.
So unreal. Add a nice paintjob, and then send that in as a tiny spy to all around the world
another cool toy, how clever I like it
I would be really impressed if I saw it run
Now it's time to pair the controls for this with an Emotiv EEG headset and have a mind-controlled spider pet. Yes? Yes.
All it needs now is a Laser and it becomes perfect!
i'm a spider I just didn't want to admit I've watched this over a million times :)
Why do half the people think this is fake? Micro robotics and 3d printers have come so far in recent years that this is certainly possible and is so. I want this, take my money.
Now I know spiders are totally capable of dancing.
Nah, I was thinking more Zone Of The Enders, but those scantily dressed monster slaying she-warriors would make excellent crew members!
Actually if you look closely at the carpet it is uneven. And it reacts in different areas as the spider pushes down on it which are not proximal to the spider. I doubt that was an intentional affect.
That spider robot has the moves! Go spider go!
One bite - and you are Robospiderman!
That's incredible!
The future of animatronics!
